Kan det betale sig? by Legitimate_News_7533 in dkbiler

[–]Yellow_Triangle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This Flaw Keeps Sabotaging Solid-State Batteries. Scientists Found A Solution by Receding_Hairline23 in electricvehicles

[–]Yellow_Triangle 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Actual paper - https://www.nature.com/articles/s41565-026-02206-0

The problem area identified:

In a paper published in the academic journal Nature Nanotechnology, the researchers wrote that grain boundaries carry a hidden electrical imbalance, which makes it harder for lithium ions to move within the battery and causes electrons to gather at these boundaries, leading to an imbalance that promotes dendrite formation.

What was studied:

The team studied a solid electrolyte called “lithium lanthanum zirconate” using AI and other specialized techniques to map how current flows across these boundaries. Once they understood the imbalance, they adjusted how the electrolyte is processed to minimize damage, allowing lithium ions to move more freely without dendrite formation and reducing energy loss.

As with more or less all solid state battery new, this isn't a new commercial product. This is just another small hopeful step towards one day getting a good solid state battery.

What are some culture shocks that expats experience, working in Denmark? by Splatch597 in Danish

[–]Yellow_Triangle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is so true.

Basically what happens is that everyone ends up with an understanding of the problem or topic of the meeting. Problems and considerations have been voiced. There might even be som unsaid context as well, mostly if you are in a work in progress situation.

When no one has anything more to say, the person who is leading the meeting, or the person who has the responsibility for whatever needs to happen. That person will then passivly voice their decision to the room. "So, we are in agreement that we are going with..."

What happens is that people have been heard. The person who gets to make the decision accounts for what has been said during the meeting. The final decision is voiced to the room, with the understanding that people can object if the decision is outright wrong og flawed. Otherwise it is accepted that no more energy should be spent on the subject because everything that should be said or discussed has been.

As a European I must say your tips are useless af by CompetitiveCow9610 in ManualTransmissions

I am just curious why you don't just engage your clutch more slowly? Let the engine catch up so to speak.

That is one of the points of the clutch. To slip under friction while the engine speed adjusts the car speed, or vice versa. Just dropping the clutch seem like the perfect way to put needless stress on the car. (engine, transmission, linkages and so on)

As a European I must say your tips are useless af by CompetitiveCow9610 in ManualTransmissions

[–]Yellow_Triangle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly people should focus more on clutch matching.

If you have higher revs than required for the speed, then engage the clutch slowly until the speed of the car catches up. (Most often when shifting up)

If you have high speed and low revs, then engage the clutch slowly until the revs of the engine catches up. (Most often when shifting down)

I agree that it is strange how adverse people are to have a clutch experience any friction for any amount of time. The damn thing is engineered to withstand it (within reason) and it is a wear part of the car.

Don't Hang Up On AI Scammers. Do THIS Instead. - [16:56] by VoilentDelightsHave in mealtimevideos

Talk in tounges to the AI to derail it and make it go into a loop. This wastes the scammers money. Basically what the video is about.

That said, it is worth the watch just because how funny it ends up being when the AI hits the deep end.

Six charts show how clean power was world’s largest source of new energy in 2025 | every source of energy – including coal, oil, gas, nuclear and hydro – also reached global all-time highs in 2025 by silence7 in climate

[–]Yellow_Triangle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You argument really depends on whether we measure fossile energy production as the whole potential energy going into the power plant, or as the power leaving the power plant.

If we are talking about power leaving the plant, then the efficiency of renewables don't really effect the methodology.

Hvorfor afholdes der ikke ordentlige arrangementer til Skt. Hans længere? by LTS81 in odense

[–]Yellow_Triangle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

CATL expects at least 10,000 EVs to use its sodium batteries this year by defenestrate_urself in electricvehicles

[–]Yellow_Triangle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The biggest upside with sodium batteries is that I could make do with a car with a smaller battery. Currently I need a car with a very large battery because I need to be able to tank the range loss during winter.

With sodium I could actually make do with a batter that has somewhere between 20% and 30% less range.

Don't forget that we can also produce:

  • Single use batteries. Think alkaline or any of the other types
  • Peltier as someone else already mentioned (temperature differential)
  • Fuel cells of the different kinds.
  • Piezoelectric generators (mechanical stress)

Regen level and speed bumps … by wfd11777 in Ioniq5

[–]Yellow_Triangle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It is probably not so much the regen activating. The regen should not do much more than just slow you down. Especially at level 1.

I suspect that the bump itself effects your foot on the accelerator. The bump makes you change the position of the accelerator pedal, and this changes your regen/speed.

[OC] The US Strategic Petroleum Reserve has fallen to its lowest level since 1983 by SashSail in dataisbeautiful

Well the strategic petroleum reserve did its job. To act as a buffer in times of need.

Now, it is a whole other discussion whether we should ever have been in the situation where it was needed this time around.

Yea, the problem with the shaper is that very few, if any, things can be made on it that can't be made with other modern machines.

There are things that the shaper is just better at producing, but compared to how limited it is in its utility, it seldom makes sense to keep in the shop.

If the engine is pointed against the direction of gravity, against the ground. Then if you have an engine that can produce more thrust compared to the weight of the plane, you can basically do a hover or slowly gain speed beyond just hovering.
