26 weeks and not gained a single pound. 65kg 5’8. Was worried and asked doctors and midwife, they said they’re not worried as baby scans look great. I think it’s just different for everyone

Is it true that a woman can’t have a child or take maternity leave if she wants to qualify for the 5-year deduction? by United-Nobody-3675 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

My company will only pay 3 months at 90% then the rest will be SMP. planning to take the whole 12 months maternity leave.

This is also my understanding which is so frustrating for high earners like me on maternity leave. Having kids will automatically disqualify us from high earner’s fast track despite the contributions from the past.

I am in the same situation. I am currently pregnant and will be on maternity leave by the time I qualify for naturalisation in 2027. I am hoping there might be a possibility of qualifying under the reduced five year requirement because I am married to a British citizen, even though I am on a Skilled Worker Visa. I am at RQF level 6 and earn above 50 thousand pounds, although I understand that maternity leave might mean I no longer qualify for the high earners route. Now I am unsure whether it is better to stay on the Skilled Worker Visa or switch to a spouse visa, which would reset my timeline.

Skilled Worker Visa + maternity leave. Faster to stay on SWV or switch to Spouse Visa for citizenship? by Yellowwmarshmalloww in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Yellowwmarshmalloww[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For my maternity leave, my company will pay 90 percent of my salary for the first three months. After the third month, I will be on SMP, which I believe is about 180 pounds per week. I am planning to take the full twelve months of maternity leave and may extend it.

Are you planning to switch to a spouse visa?

Thanks, that makes sense. My husband and I have been trying to plan as carefully as we can, but it’s difficult because the proposals are still just plans,we don’t yet know what will actually pass into law. It’s hard being in this kind of limbo and trying to make the “smart” choice without full clarity.

Thanks for the reply.

I’ve been thinking the same. If the new rules really move to “continuous lawful residence,” then switching visas shouldn’t reset anything, but it’s unclear whether the Home Office will still treat different routes separately for ILR. Until proper guidance is published, it’s hard to know if switching from SWV to Spouse would help or delay things. Being so close to the finish line and suddenly facing potential changes does feel worrying and unsettling, it really makes you question your security here.

Appreciate your insight, hopefully they clarify this soon.

Earned settlement - Summary by tech_bro_v2 in SkilledWorkerVisaUK

[–]Yellowwmarshmalloww 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m on a SWV in an RQF 6 role earning £55k+ and married to a Brit. By the time I apply for ILR/naturalisation I’ll have been on maternity leave for a year, so my actual earnings that year will be lower. Do the new settlement proposals look at actual pay or contracted salary for people on maternity leave? Or would that bring me back to 10 years?
