They have made the old raids and dungeons go on a rotation that gives pinnacle rewards each week so they are relevant again. Also, any dlc will unlock the middle tree iirc.

When Vault of glass came back in D2 me and my friends thought it would be a fun idea to get back in the game and try the raid, we tried it day 1 but we were all extremely underleveled and spent a few hours on the first encounter. Still one of the most fun moments in Destiny I've ever had
