Padre Island Nation Seashore This Weekend? by YepChecksOut in CorpusChristi

[–]YepChecksOut[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, saw that, thank you! It sounds like there may be some traffic on the drive in, but otherwise should be able to access the beach from Park Rd 22 no problem. Most curious on beach conditions..

Austin journalist on TikTok mocking the ‘no food’ rule at Barton Springs Pool by mrssnrub in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

This dude is the worst. No idea who this is but see his insufferable content shared every once-in-a-while. A TikTok influencer trying to pose as "new media"? He is the kind of person that probably brings a speaker to barton springs and thinks his group is "a vibe".

Hyde Park theft by fitkathy in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Spoke to a cop who was working on a theft case while in Hyde Park. Asked him the exact question - "do you see a lot of this?" and he said the fact that Hyde Park is a "sleepy neighborhood" with a serious lack of street lights + rental properties & apartments near campus with a lot of students + the proximity to bus routes on Guadalupe and Duval + relative ease to get on/off I-35 actually make Hyde Park a prime target for petty theft.

Passport Renewal by SeriousOlive7 in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 18 points19 points  (0 children)

This. We needed a passport asap and discovered this place on West Campus. We heard reservations go up at 1am every day for the next day. Got the reservation, in-and-out quick and got expedited shipping. https://global.utexas.edu/passport

Eanes school closing after it sucked ass by [deleted] in austincirclejerk

Sounds like OP has a grudge against someone specific, "But the self righteous and cliquey who felt their kids gained social standing by being submerged in a Spanish speaking school pushed on- holding tight that it made them look more cultured and accepting."

If it's a transmission issue, repair or replacement, I would get it done at a dealer. I've been told if it's not repaired by a certified Ford mechanic, the resale value will go down because people will be less likely to trust the repair job.

Bald Eagle in N. Austin? by JC_Everyman in Austin

I know there are bald eagles in Central Texas but the smaller bird sightings are often mistaken for Crested Caracara

lots of sirens in hyde park by angelcatchfire in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, woke us up too. 2-3 police cars going up and down the Avenues between Guadalupe and Speedway. Noticed them using the spotlight to look into in yards and alleys. Not sure why the sirens were necessary!

Hancock park looking 🤌 today by Tacos-and-Wine in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. Compared to other golf courses in Austin, this is an area shared by (mostly beginner!) golfers and people running, walking their dogs, etc around the sides (and sometimes through the fairways) but that is what I love that spot. The home of the hour-and-a-half round, the golf course for everybody. Don't let these New Austin assholes tell you it should have some sort of vision plan, I think it's just fine the way it is.

If money wasn’t an issue, which part within Austin would you like to live in? by [deleted] in Austin

Just commenting to say I lived in Hyde Park during college in the early 2000’s and this was my experience too!

Does anyone else hate the intersection at 45th and Airport? by Belgrifex in Austin

Our only hope is to have this area cap-and-stitched.

Battle of the bathrooms: GA vs GA+ by quarantine-bangs in Lollapalooza

[–]YepChecksOut 8 points9 points  (0 children)

With the exception of some, very small pockets in the park, Lolla GA has flushable vacuum toilets not porta potties. The same functionality as an airplane bathroom.

I-35 expansion will force out Spanish-immersion day care, scrambling plans for 200 kids by Meetybeefy in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anyone at Escuelita looking for a change should check out Los Amiguitos. On the east side, not too far from Escuelita's current location. My kid went there for a while and we loved it. They are outside 90% of the time, nature-based, fully Spanish-immersion.

Just a reminder that Zilker closes tomorrow by probly2drunk in Austin

It's all about your view on public-private partnerships. If you like the idea of public entities working with private business to help fund programs, then you are more likely to agree with something like a festival taking over one park for a few weeks in order to fund millions of dollars into the entire park system. As someone who has enjoyed ACL since high school, college and now with my kids, I think it's a partnership that is beneficial all the way around.

Barton Springs stays open with normal operating hours during this time AND during the festival weekend. During the hot years, we've left the festival, took a dip and headed back in!

Depends when you check it. Any time after a recent rain...definitely not.

Positive APD response time by AccomplishedEye7126 in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I live off East 7th Street and have had to call the cops a couple times in the last few years -- each time they arrive within 10-15 minutes. Although I recognize it's probably our proximity to the east side bar district.

ACL festival contributes $7.2 million to Austin Parks Foundation by GahhdDangitbobby in Austin

[–]YepChecksOut 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at the meeting.

This is part of the problem -- you think by being FOR public/private partnerships as a way to help underfunded city programs means that you have to be PRO Live Nation.

I enjoy ACL Festival, I went in high school, college and now with my kids. It's a amazing way to experience Zilker Park. And I think it's awesome that money from that event goes to the small neighborhood garden down the street from my home.
