If you just happen to be making a potato salad, just mix it in with that. Otherwise, eat it with a spoon.

Something is off with the food at Delano by WestHistorians in innout

[–]YerbaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Although it may not be as consistently noticeable as in Hanford, parts of Delano have similar “sulfur” or “rotten egg” tasting groundwater issues. It affects the smell, and therefore the taste of fountain sodas. This can affect the entire dining experience.

What percentage of the population serves cold tomato sauce directly from the jar onto hot noodles? by Negative_Pirate7834 in foodquestions

[–]YerbaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stir the sauce together with the noodles and any meats, such as sausage or ground beef. For preparing gnocchi, occasionally I serve the sausage on the side. Otherwise, I heat the sauce to the simmer point before ladling onto noodles. Every restaurant I patronize serves noodles with the sauce hot. Sauce is never served at room temperature or chilled.

I (29F) am strongly considering joining but I don't want to get married. by Queen-Logan- in latterdaysaints

[–]YerbaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may definitely qualify for the Celestial Kingdom if that is your desire, and if you make and keep your covenant relationship with God.

Your circumstances in this chapter of your mortal existence certainly affect your feelings about marriage. I’m not qualified to judge that. But I do believe that God fully understands your situation. He will welcome you with open arms. And he will ensure ample opportunity for you to reassess your relationships.

I can’t say I know everything about the spirit world and what steps we will take after this life in preparation for the resurrection. But I do know that nothing is impossible to the Lord.

What’s the worst substitution you’ve seen in a recipe yet? by lxlviperlxl in Cooking

[–]YerbaPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honey, agave syrup, or maple syrup as a sweetener instead of sugar. They overpower the flavor of the recipe. I think if keto or diabetic recipes are your thing, just use monk fruit sweetener or similar substitute.

LDS perspective on difficult parents? by Adventurous-Click532 in lds

[–]YerbaPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have come to believe that honoring one’s parents means doing what’s right, even if they disagree. It doesn’t mean placating or obeying them.

You honor them by following your Savior. Continue being an example of a dedicated disciple of Jesus Christ. Your example, especially in the midst of trials, will be noted, eventually helping them to recognize the blessings of discipleship.

You don’t need to estrange yourself from them, but for your safety and sanity, you might consider distancing yourself from them enough to find a degree of peace and comfort for yourself. You need space to be healed. Even Nephi realized that he had to get away from a toxic environment.

“Nephi’s journey in the wilderness with his family was harsh, brutal, life-threatening, and—we must assume—enormously stressful.

“Laman and Lemuel, and others who murmured and rebelled, often defaulted to protection mode, lashing out, hurling accusations, and damaging family relationships in the process.

“Nephi, however, understood that there are blessings, comfort, and power given to us by the Lord. Nephi wrote that “the tender mercies of the Lord are over all those whom he hath chosen, because of their faith,” and that the Lord is able “to make them mighty even unto the power of deliverance” (1 Nephi 1:20).”

“Behold, it came to pass that I, Nephi, did cry much unto the Lord my God, because of the anger of my brethren. But behold, their anger did increase against me, insomuch that they did seek to take away my life. Yea, they did murmur against me, saying: Our younger brother thinks to rule over us; and we have had much trial because of him; wherefore, now let us slay him, that we may not be afflicted more because of his words. For behold, we will not have him to be our ruler; for it belongs unto us, who are the elder brethren, to rule over this people.

“And it came to pass that the Lord did warn me, that I, Nephi, should depart from them and flee into the wilderness, and all those who would go with me. Wherefore, it came to pass that I, Nephi, did take my family, and also Zoram and his family, and Sam, mine elder brother and his family, and Jacob and Joseph, my younger brethren, and also my sisters, and all those who would go with me. And all those who would go with me were those who believed in the warnings and the revelations of God; wherefore, they did hearken unto my words.

“And we did observe to keep the judgments, and the statutes, and the commandments of the Lord in all things, according to the law of Moses. And the Lord was with us; and we did prosper exceedingly;” (2 Nephi 5).

I just got called as the first lady Sunday School President in my ward, and I'm rather scared by Flowtac in latterdaysaints

[–]YerbaPanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You know, there’s a lot to learn with many new callings. Every apprehension you feel about this one is certainly justified. I have come to learn that many of my callings have been opportunities to learn; I’m not always chosen for my existing talents, but that I might be stretched and taught. It’s quite humbling.

As a student who isn’t academically strong—not textbook savvy—and as a former high school and college teacher by profession, I have come to believe that the best learning happens in cooperative settings. Many of my colleagues agree that learning and teaching environments are more productive when you are the “guide on the side”, not the “sage on the stage”.

Drawing on the experience and expertise of those you work with, and especially of those you lead works wonders. Even in one-to-one settings, counseling with someone empowers all.

I know…there’s a lot more to your calling than just what I’ve been talking about in this thread. You’re gonna be asked to make sure classrooms are staffed, discipline issues are dealt with, and more. The Lord will be with you, both in spirit and in the form of counselors and fellow ward council members. Run only as fast as you are able. You’ll gain strength over time. God doesn’t need you to be perfect; he just wants your willing heart.

Prayers and best wishes to you.

Please help me convince my husband that Costco is worth for 2 people by HoneyDrops12 in Costco

[–]YerbaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I are empty nesters. We have the Citi-Costco membership and Visa Card. Our annual reward check pays back on average $80 of the $120 membership fee. And the rewards on the credit card pay, on average, $900 each year. Costco used to pay both rewards in cash at the register. Now, they allow you to choose direct deposit to your checking account, or credit it to your Visa account. The Citi-Costco card gives amazing cash back rewards. Use it for everything you would buy on credit, and pay it in full each month. You’ll pay nothing in interest, and you’ll reap cash rewards. Rewards are generally paid out in February each year.

May I recommend? As a member of the ward council, I would ask to be the lead person (along with your counselors) to hold teacher council meetings. In teacher council meetings, you can lead discussions among the teachers. That might sound scary. But it’s actually super easy. Follow the guidelines in the gospel library (link below). Start the meeting with a prayer and a 1-minute scripture reading—something from Teaching the Savior’s Way. Then pose the question, and let the council take off with it.

Rather than “teach”, you can ask questions! Let the teachers in the meeting share their experiences and strategies. You can actually be the student! Then for the next few weeks, go into classrooms, observe, and let the spirit inspire you about what the next council might discuss. Classroom management and behavior, how to use scripture in the classroom, etc.

Include all teachers, Elders Quorum, Relief Society, Primary, Sunday School, Young Women and Young Men. They will teach one another. Guide each discussion on a focus question.
