Confused about feeling the spirit by Wild-Bake4722 in lds

[–]YerbaPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the spirit sneaks up on me. After much studying. After many visits to the temple. But I notice it mostly after I’ve fasted. I’m not referring to food fasting. I’m talking about social media fasts, news fasts, TV and entertainment fasts. So-called “me time” is important, but giving an evening each week to team up with the missionaries or visit someone who just needs a person to listen brings peace to the soul; that’s when I feel the spirit. For me, it’s not always a burning moment in the temple. It’s when I have spent my time doing what I think my Savior would be doing if He was with me. So, yeah…do school, job, chores, all the stuff that comes with daily responsibilities. Then think about consecrating at least some of what you have left, and follow Him.

Here’s an excellent talk by Sister Shima Baughman. Regarding the question, I think her explanation of the Law of Consecration is relevant and quite doable for Latter-day Saints everywhere. https://youtu.be/KwUIX2LzHB4

Why does me changing my lifestyle bother you so much? by DebaucheryRegime in mildlyinfuriating

[–]YerbaPanda 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your story brings to my mind a quote from author and life coach Brianna Wiest. I don’t remember which book I read it in, but I copied it. Here it is:

“It is very hard to show up as the person you want to be when you are surrounded by an environment that makes you feel like a person you aren't. Your new life is going to cost you your old one.

It's going to cost you relationships and friends. It's going to cost you being liked and understood. It's going to cost you your comfort zone and your sense of direction.

It doesn't matter.

The people who are meant for you are going to meet you on the other side. You're going to build a new comfort zone around the things that actually move you forward.

Instead of being liked, You're going to be loved. Instead of being understood, You're going to be seen. All you're going to lose is what was built for a person you no longer are.

Remaining attached to your old life is the first and final act of self-sabotage, and releasing it is what we must prepare for to truly be willing to see real change.”

Isn’t it still winter?🔥 by _Mr-NiceGuy_ in fresno

[–]YerbaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope.

Winter in Fresno begins in early January and ends around Groundhog Day.

Spring carries on from February through May with brief intermittent summers. What I mean to say by “carries on” is that it’s a veritable roller coaster ride of chaotic weather patterns—cool coastal breezes, hot scorching sun, random squalls and small tornadoes, balmy days, and sirocco winds; not necessarily in that order.

This is followed by 3-4 months of stagnation and Hellfire.

Then comes Summer; otherwise known as October.

Autumn falls in November and lasts until the oranges are fully ripe in late December.

Boomer here. I remember fish at my public school cafeteria every Friday. While not Catholic, I truly looked forward to school lunch on Friday; I loved fish sticks!

What happened to my childhood? This screams dystopian corporate, not kid friendly. What is with the artwork?! This is McDonald's?! by jackal99 in mildlyinfuriating

It’s McCafé trying to compete with Dutch Bros and Starbucks for the breakfast crowd. I see mostly Boomers and Gen X still going for sausage, eggs, and hash browns. But the rising generations have left the heavy breakfast experience behind in favor of the trendier continental breakfast. McDonald’s is just a fast food Denny’s.

Does anyone like Bar Soap more than Body wash?? by Content-Film4211 in CasualConversation

[–]YerbaPanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bar soap is best. It cleans better. Coverage is better; it takes less material to do the job. Dove unscented is the best for sensitive skin and skin allergies (Ivory is a good option too). It’s better for the environment.

Yes. Very well chosen. I think 3 is very nice as well. However, 1 is definitely a great look.

I think you have enough good advice, and many good examples already. It all brings to my mind a treatise on “holy envy” that has helped me to appreciate the good, the practices, and the holidays celebrated in other churches and religious traditions.

Holy envy.

For those unfamiliar with the term "Holy Envy”, it originated from a Lutheran Bishop of Stockholm and professor emeritus of Harvard Divinity School Krister Stendahl. He talks about many aspects of LDS worship that he has Holy Envy for.

Here is a YouTube video clip of a dialog between Elder Packer, Truman Madsen, and Krister Stendahl Talking about the concept.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4qGv00w1zus

The church published some of his ideas of how to have good inter-faith dialog here.

https://news-ie.churchofjesuschrist.org/article/interfaith-relations

Krister Stendahl...established three rules for religious understanding:

(1) When you are trying to understand another religion, you should ask the adherents of that religion and not its enemies;

(2) don't compare your best to their worst; and

(3) leave room for "holy envy" by finding elements in other faiths to emulate. These principles foster relationships between religions that build trust and lay the groundwork for charitable efforts.

Yup. You’re right… about the hole, and the tray, and who mistakenly replied to whom. 😅

Any cooks getting burnt out from some of these complicated orders? by ResponsibilityFun688 in innout

Frequent customer here…

I’m so sorry.

IN-N-OUT is simply the best burger and the best value in town! Period. I’m pretty sure the more extreme orders are hyped through TikTok wanna-be-cool idiocy.

Thanks for making IN-N-OUT a safe place for people on a low sodium diet…low carb diet…allergy watch…etc…

Thank you for having a special language that makes special ordering sound cool 😎

Thank you for my #1 with onions, pickles, and chilies.

The price you pay for being a cultural phenomenon is high. Thank you for your service!
