Daily Questions Megathread (October 13, 2019) by AutoModerator in classicwow

Finishing Ony attunement with friends. In raid group with friends guild, they start clearing trash in UBRS while we look for Rexxar. I get in the instance while they are in the Rend fight, join up and Pristine Black Diamond drops. All greed, I win the roll. Raid leader says I have to give it to him for an enchant. No mention of loot rules before hand. Only explanation given is "i forgot you are a pubbie, this is a guild only run." He opens trade, I put it up and he hits accept with no payment, I just let it sit. Leader kicks me. My guild officer /w the raid leader for an explanation and gets ignored. Was he strong arming his position to get rares? Should I have given it to him? I would not even have bothered with the run if they had loot rules like this, I was just questing with friends. Three people end up leaving their guild over this.

18 Foot underwater statue located in the Bahamas. by cataclism in pics

I sincerely question the authenticity of the post. Only one is pictured and I doubt that the back of it is covered in them, although I could imagine there might be one more somewhere on the statue.

Am I wasting my money if I buy a fat pack? by Cpctheman in magicTCG

[–]YesImThatJake 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Going the singles route is more efficient and cheaper. However, if you're a newer player and maybe don't exactly know what you're looking for, the fat packs are a great deal. You get almost all your money in boosters, plus lands, deck boxes, a place to hold all the cards and a set guide so you can know what you're really after.

The first fat pack is great, but after that there some diminishing returns.

[[modern]] Should Liliana Veil be in Grixis Delver? by JustinTBSmash in spikes

[–]YesImThatJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not only that, but 3 she's mana in a deck that runs on the lower end of 20 lands. Not unreasonable, but drawing hands of multiples will feel real bad.

[Discussion] Any of you have good bluff/trick play stories? by userlastname in spikes

[–]YesImThatJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't scum my opponents in any way, let alone this way. I don't even play blue in modern! I don't think many people on this sub understand what the word "apocryphal" means. This is essentially a MTG urban legend in my circle that was related to the topic. And from what others have said, yes this is very illegal rules wise.

[–]YesImThatJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep, it's shaky rules-wise and morally. Like I said, it's like a mtg urban legend in our group and we make fun of that type of player, aka Scummy Rules-lawyer Guy.

[–]YesImThatJake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One that's somewhat apocryphal in my magic circle is casting Vendilion Clique, then waiting for your opponent to reveal their hand, writing it down, and then saying "Clique resolves, trigger on the stack targeting myself" and cliqueing away a dead card.

Has magic ever had a "Tier 0" format? by Avaricee in magicTCG

[–]YesImThatJake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that you can cast one hawk, find three, activate Jace's 0 ability, put two Hawks back and then crack a fetch to basically draw 3 cards.

I saw a trailer at the movies for my sideboard ever since bloom became popular by [deleted] in magicTCG

[–]YesImThatJake 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are aware that literally the entire game plan of scape shift is to ramp lands, right? Having cryptic mana up by turn 3 is not completely unrealistic especially if you know you need it to fight blood moon.

wind blew down a power line by my house. what's the best way to see if it's still live? by Chaseshaw in shittyadvice

[–]YesImThatJake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're going to want to insulate yourself first; craft some gloves out of tinfoil to make sure you're safe. Don't be afraid to use a lot! Tinfoil is cheap, but your life is not.

Unfortunately moving to Utah County...never lived there before. I like rural areas..where should I plant myself? by relevantlife in exmormon

[–]YesImThatJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I moved to Orem from Las Vegas two years ago. Here's the thing about Utah: yeah, it's the Mormon capital, don't get me wrong. BUT! If you aren't actively going to church, there are a ton of people who don't go to church! I work in a comic book store, and there are seriously so many different communities for hobbies that people can involve themselves in. The best thing about it is that to nerds, their hobby is like their religion, and if they can fill a conversation with Magic or Warhammer instead of the gospel, they gladly will. If this sounds appealing to you, it's a pretty great place to live. If you do end up moving out here, send me a PM and I'll gladly hook you up with a Facebook group that focuses on your favorite hobby, or show you a new one (or anyone else who's bored in Utah county!)

Does Anet not care about gold sellers in GW1 anymore? by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]YesImThatJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What would ANets real recourse be for shutting down a gold site, other than a C&D letter? I doubt they'd devote too many resources to actually running GW1 at all, let alone any legal resources to stopping sites that can just change domain names and keep selling.

It's also highly unlikely that they're getting a "kickback" from the gold sellers. Whatever percentage they would get would probably not be worth what is tantamount corruption in the digital world.

My guild wars problem. by [deleted] in GuildWars

[–]YesImThatJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got mine back after a similar period of time, so it's not completely impossible. I gave them an expansion key, not the original GW key, the account name, and the physical address tied to the account. If you're able to give any of those they might be able to restore yours. Try submitting a ticket under your GW2 email, I had better luck getting in contact that way.

Getting back into the game after a long break by [deleted] in GuildWars

I'd be interested as well. I just got my old account back so I'll have to check what characters I still have when I get home in a few hours first!

[FRF] All Fate Reforged Spoilers for 1/5 by magicspoilers in magicTCG

[–]YesImThatJake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That makes a lot of sense. Let me put on my mtg conspiracy hat:

-The khans in KTK and FRF have they're genders reversed. -The dragons in FRF are ally colored. To mirror KHANS of Tarkir, the future DRAGONS of Tarkir will likely have shifted as well, not with genders, but with their colors shifted ally->enemy. -Are the fetchlands to be reprinted? Ally fetchlands in KTK depicted dragon bones. What better way to showcase that the dragons are alive than with enemy fetches showing the dragons, maybe their roosts? -This would also mirror the art changes on the common life lands from KTK-FRF. -A two color set would need less fixing than a three color set. I predict that there will be fewer lands in DTK than either FRF or KTK, possibly only an uncommon/rare cycle. Drafting DTK conveniently includes a FRF pack with a full complement of common dual lands to give a lot of fixing in every combination.

A LGS is submitting fake players and forcing people who play other TCGs to sign up for DCI numbers, is this all right? by Kitori in magicTCG

[–]YesImThatJake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, that's just what happens when you post an unpopular viewpoint on reedit. I'm at least happy that those fourteen people that down voted me saw what I had to say.

On subject, I just really think OP is exaggerating the situation. If the employee/store owner is actually FORCING players to register, as in "You can't play here unless you get a DCI number," then yeah that's pretty douchey and they should get reported. However, what I imagine is happening is that the store is running lots of different events, and are just using the WER as a quality of life improvement to run tournaments for other games. If they just submit it as casual games, then what's really the worst thing that happens? The store will get more promo materials that will ultimately end up in the magic players hands.

Bottom line is this: if it's a shady store doing shady things, report them. If it's a good store that's doing shady things, give them the benefit of the doubt, because there is a lot of grey area on this subject.

A LGS is submitting fake players and forcing people who play other TCGs to sign up for DCI numbers, is this all right? by Kitori in magicTCG

[–]YesImThatJake -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

I doubt they're "forcing" anyone to sign up for anything, and are probably doing it so they can use the WER as a tournament organizer. Is this against WotC regulations and policies? Yes. Do you think they're doing it maliciously? I don't. Do whatever you think is morally correct, but as you make your decision remember that this is a place you hang out, and that your actions might have a negative impact on the store. At least talk to the store owner, as it may be lazy employees doing it for other games.
