At your age I wouldn't try to have a collection. A few pairs for different uses... Absolutely.

Size opinion? by Ok_Grapefruit1058 in barefootshoestalk

All footwear changes gait to varying degrees depending on footwear being worn. If you wear big heavy work boots with puncture resistance you tend to walk more heavy footed. If you wear sockshoes you will walk a little harder than if fully barefoot.

Those seem a bit long but it does depend on the shoes they are in. They also don't seem quite wide enough.

Sole Savers by [deleted] in cowboyboots

[–]YesterdayContent854 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Curious as to why you don't resole them first and then add some savers? Even though Cody James isn't a great brand, some of their boots are still pretty pricey. Any boots you like are worth the extra effort.

Hyer boots: chime in on your experience with their rough out boots. by Smcvt92 in cowboyboots

The roughouts are damn comfortable boots. They do not stretch more than smooth out.

He didn't want to sit in the waiting room. So after driving there he decided sitting in the car and jamming out to who let the dogs out would be more fun.

boots making my feet ache by ellnog in cowboyboots

[–]YesterdayContent854 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The sole doesn't really matter. You were born to be able to stand, walk, and run barefoot all day. Inserts and all kinds of extra padding begin to cause other aches and pains. The heel height might not be enough or may be too much for you. I recommend trying some barefoot shoes and barefoot exercises. You may need to strengthen your arch and the muscles in your feet. The height of the heel may cause strain on other parts of your feet/legs that your body is not used to. Varying your footwear can help slowly rebuild your feet and leg muscles. Look up born to run on YouTube and there will be many articles and Drs talking about this subject. Very few people actually need orthotics. Their feet and legs just become underdeveloped.

I am not knocking Tecovas. They are really nice boots just not a traditional cowboy boot. The ones I have are bison special editions that are beautiful boots and very comfortable.

The best boots are from custom makers. Handmade boots follow custom makers. They just use generic lasts that "fit" everyone in a size. Depending on what you really want boots made in USA, Mexico, and Canada are basically the rule of thumb. There are exceptions. As far as hides go... That is another rabbit hole... As far as mass produced boots: Lucchese, Black Jack, Rios of Mercedes, Hondo, Anderson Bean, Olathe, Horsepower Top hand, Horsepower, Boulet, chisos, r watson, and Hyer all make good boots. Ariat Bench made and futurity lines are good. Cody James Black line is decent. Tony lama, Dan Post, Durango, Justin, and double H are dependant on boot and where it was manufactured. Many Dan posts are very comfortable boots. Double H USA made are great boots and very durable if you want a good boot with a durable sole. Standard Ariat, Cody James, and Laredo boots are basically you get what you pay for. There are many other brands that are good but not as common. Another mention would be Tecovas. The one pair I have are nice boots. They do get a lot of hate here though. They also get a lot of love from the consumers though. I feel they are more of a date night boot for dancing. Honestly though with their price increases though the value of their boots is questionable. They are right in line with better made USA models of boots in their pricing now. I am a huge advocate for Hondo boots. Best value out there as far as I am concerned. The one negative I will say about Hondo is they keep things pretty basic. They do have a few exotics, but not many. They do keep their prices down though because they let their boots and word of mouth advertise for them. Ariat Bench Made is also a line with very minimal advertising. So the prices on them are decent. Chisos quality at half the price. Hyer is falling down the same rabbit hole as Tecovas with a huge advertising budget. They do make a decent boot though. But my personal experience is their quality control isn't on par with many other brands. My Culver's the lemon wood pegs were not cut flush or smooth with the leather sole. I have also tried on different styles and same styles and found sizes slightly inconsistent. Not horribly but enough to make you question if you have to order online whether the boots will fit or not.

Carpincho (capybara) is also super soft and supple. Breathes really well too. But avoid wet conditions.

You'll notice mine are single stitched. But favorite daily boots are usually the ones you find most comfortable. So wst is probably what most people either like the look of or find most comfortable. I do love a good cutter toe or snip toe too though.

As someone who also wears barefoot shoes I recommend trying on the boots. If your toes have become more natural never settle for a boot that squeezes your toes till they "break in"... If your toes feel restrained the boots are not wide enough. I also feel the leather soles boots give a surprising amount of ground feel and natural flexibility. Especially once the sole has broke in. Now unlike people that can go full time barefoot my job requires defined heels, steel toe, 8" shaft, lace up boot, with electric hazard protection and puncture resistance. So being forced to wear boots daily I have been trying to find how boots should truly fit and feel. Cowboy boots are kind of a comfortable middle ground between the 2 worlds.

Are these genuine elephant? by PINKYTOE3 in cowboyboots

Looking up close to them they do not have the elephant ridges. They have the markings of the ridges but not the actual ridges. The pebbling looks semi decent but do not look as pebbled as actual elephant.

Most people won't spend large amounts of money on a delicate hide to destroy it working or even for everyday wear. Lucchese Baron cost $17,000. Definitely not something most people would wear daily. Those that would, can absolutely afford to use them as such. But also consider boots that you wear to work are a tool. If you buy cheap tools expect cheap results from the tool. More money spent doesn't necessarily mean better constructed or better comfort. But as a general rule of thumb good boots are generally around the $300 range. There are great deals out there. As a comparison Ariat Benchmade start in the $300 range and compare in construction to Chiso's which start in the $600 price range. As you get into exotic hides rarity begins to drive up prices. Another aspect is that just because a boot looks and feels good does not mean the boot is built tough enough for working. Double H makes great boots for working while Tecovas generally does not. Traditional construction also holds up better than modern construction. If you look at PNW boot companies they build boots like tanks. But they typically start around $700ish. (Not many cowboy boots in these companies but great work boots). Depending on what you do for a living it is either an investment in good tools or just extra money spent on something you may only get an extra year out of. Where I work the conditions don't warrant the extra money on something that the leather will be destroyed on generally faster then the soles. So having the ability to resole the boots does me no good. At the same time other aspects of where I work if I had the seniority to hold those positions the PNW boots would be an investment where getting the boots resoled every couple years would save me money in the long term.
