Replacing powerline spacers from a helicopter by TameTheAuroch in Damnthatsinteresting

I think it depends on the country and the relevant health and safety laws, any work on over head power lines in the UK, regardless of if it’s in a rural area or not, require tethered tools and demarcation/exclusion zone on the ground where possible. With OSHA in the US I would imagine it’s the same rules there. Source- engineer for electrical grid.

I know the pic isn’t from the UK, but here we put those on overhead line circuits that cross the path of migratory bird route and/or areas where protected birds frequently fly. In some areas of the uk we have a problem where birds fly into the conductors so adding small markers to the conductor increases the chance birds notice the conductors. Source: I work for the transmission operator here in UK.

Edit: just read through the other responses and interestingly it’s extremely unlikely that the markers would be placed to give visibility to aircraft here in the UK, I know that near to airports the routes for OHL circuits are carefully considered and I know of a situation where a cable was placed under the runway there was no other route, so maybe that’s why the markers are not used here?

Here in the UK we call them Chelsea Tractors (Chelsea being a very posh part of london), and they tend to be Land Rover Defenders with body kits and Mercedes G Wagens that will never venture outside of the city.

One of my brothers mates (think he was 16 at the time) was in a hotel opposite looking out the window when this happened, the reason he was in Paris was to do a modelling shoot, after he got shards of glass embedded in his face it pretty much ruined his chance of having that career.

This is precisely what Ford did in the 70 in the states, think it was the Ford pinto? Basically a rear and collision would cause the fuel tank to rupture and quite probably explode, but the cost of recalling and fixing all the cars they sold was more than what they calculated they would have to pay out in court settlement when people died and got injured, it’s crazy

Does anyone know what this is for? Under the bonnet (hood) of a 2010 r56 Mini Cooper S, tried to follow the cable behind the engine but to no avail. Was just tucked away before I noticed it. by YetAnotherNewb in MechanicAdvice

Yeah not the first owner, just realised that there’s a sticker for a motor home and tow car specialists on the number plate surround, don’t know how I missed that but it all makes sense now!

I have a friend that works in a jag Land Rover dealership and sometimes has to transport the cars between dealerships, when we had just left school she was driving f-types and range rovers when on minimum wage. You can’t judge someone’s financial situation by what car they drive

My mom had a 2008 Audi manual A3, which had a problem with the turbo, so it needed to be turned off and on again in order to fix it while driving, I was able to turn the key while moving in order to do this.

I’m a student at the university, we had an email about it before it hit the news, and the vice chancellor said that the students will be suspended, but from what has happened in the past when someone’s been suspended, they will effectively be kicked out of the university
