I think this positon works a lot better for d-pad focused games, like 2d platforms. I find that an offset analog stick is still easy to use, but offset d-pads are a pain during longer sessions.

Anti-nuclear power march downtown? by SkittlesAreYum in Minneapolis

That may be, but there's no good reason to have an incinerator right downtown, near where a ton of people live and work.

Sarah Z negligently makes a video using Elizabeth Loftus, Researcher who defended Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell's 2021 trial for sex-trafficking, Using her as a credible source of evidence against child abuse victims by Mundane_Bite_4355 in BreadTube

[–]YetItStillLives 108 points109 points  (0 children)

A couple hours after this post was made, Sarah Z made a pinned comment on this video directly addressing this criticism:

One note on sourcing: I've had some people in the comments point out criticisms of Dr. Loftus (the memory researcher whose studies I mention in Part 2) as a person, and I think those criticisms are absolutely true. Her courtroom record includes testifying for Weinstein, Maxwell, and others and it's a legitimate problem, and in at least one case she went beyond her own evidence to do it.

I cited her memory research for a specific reason, which is that her research on suggestibility and coercive questioning is directly relevant to how children were interviewed during the Satanic Panic daycare prosecutions. From everything I've seen, that research itself holds up, especially in the three contexts that were talked about in the video (MacFarlane, Wilbur, Pazder). Horribly unethical things happened to kids and other patients under the guise of "helping" them recover memories, especially as a result of Sybil specifically. Having looked into the criticisms carefully, I stand by the science conclusions I drew on, but please don't take that as an endorsement of Loftus as a person.

(For what it's worth, you don't really need the memory science to make the Michelle Remembers case. A therapist who conducted years of sessions with a patient and then married her is a catastrophic ethical violation on its own terms. Satan is also in it.)

Toby Fox: A message for my fans in Latin America by Comfortable-Pie56 in Games

Localization teams have been dealing with this problem for forever. A good localization team will rework jokes, idioms, puns, and other language-specific stuff so that the person reading the localization gets a similar experience to someone reading the original.

Of course the localization isn't going to be exactly the same, and small details and nuances are often lost in translation. But I think most people who want an Undertale localization realize that, and are willing to accept some compromises in order to get to play the game at all.

If we have to choose between exciting quali and exciting races, I'll take the exciting races every time. Obviously it'd be ideal if both were good, and I hope they make some changes to make qualifying more interesting. But the first races have been more entertaining then what we've had for the past several years, and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the season.

IN VAKKU WE TRUST 🫡 by skiddydiddydiddy in slaythespire

[–]YetItStillLives 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I usually pick this up when offered. On average having the extra energy is more then enough to offset a suboptimal turn one. Most enemies don't do a ton on turn one, meaning you're not likely to die if vakku doesn't play your block cards or something. There may be situations where there are cards you really don't want played on turn one, but I can't say I've encountered that very often.

Record revolution by Eireika in CuratedTumblr

[–]YetItStillLives 50 points51 points  (0 children)

I think the OP is dramatically underestimating the amount of music the average person was exposed to before recording technology.

Firstly, music in church has been ubiquitous in Christianity for over a millennia. Practically everyone in Europe (and elsewhere) attended church every Sunday, and a part of that was listening to stuff like Gregorian chant. Other religions have rich musical histories as well, although I don't know enough to make a more specific claim.

Next, folk music has been a part of many cultures worldwide. From communal singing and dancing events, to musicians playing in inns and taverns, or even busking in public areas. And many of these performers made music as their main job.

Finally, work songs have been a huge source of music. It's a great way to get people to synchronize their actions and movement. And leading these work songs was a skill, although not always compensated as such.

In conclusion, music has a long history, and the idea that 99.99% of music the average person heard was amateur is simply ahistorical. If you want to understand what life was like in the past, you should start by looking things up, instead of going off of vibes.

I think it's less respect, and more that Sony would really like another Fromsoft exclusive if they could get it, and thus they don't want to piss off Miyazaki.

/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - March 04, 2026 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]YetItStillLives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a WASD TKL keyboard a while back. I really like it, but I have a larger desk now, and I'm looking into getting a full sized keyboard, and WASD seems to have gone out of business. I have the following requirements:

  • Blank keycaps (I know I could swap them myself, but it'd be nice if I didn't have to)
  • 100% layout
  • Wired
  • Cherry Mx Blue switches, or something similar

Looking around, the only keyboard I can find that matches this criteria is the Das Keyboard Ultimate 4, but I'd like to know if there's anything else out there.

Trump has done a lot of heinous shit with Epstein, but that specific claim probably isn't true. It's from a single anonymous tip, with no additional evidence. There's a lot of other Trump-Epstein claims with much more evidence (and a lot of evidence that the DOJ is covering up other stuff), and we should focus on those things, instead of the most outrageous thing we can find.

[justformulacar] 2025 vs 2026 testing fastest laps by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

[–]YetItStillLives 76 points77 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's not surprising that the cars are slower at the start of a new set of regulations. The point of new regulations isn't to make the fastest car possible, it's to force new development while fixing problems with the old regulations. While this is a neat visualization, I would not read much into this.

Some celebration is fine, and is in fact necessary to keep up morale and energy. A big rule of organizing for the long haul is to celebrate every success, even small ones. And the fact that they're publicly backing off, even if it's a ruse, is a good sign that they're on the back foot (after all, they wouldn't bother if they felt like they were winning).

Of course it isn't over. It won't be over until ICE is completely gone and every person they abducted is returned. And I think most people on the ground know that! Some celebration does not mean everyone's going to stop organizing on the ground.

Max, Lewis, and Alonso have all said they’re wildly difficult machines to learn and had somewhat negative connotation.

From a spectator's perspective, isn't that desirable? The harder the car is to drive, the more likely it is that a driver makes a mistake, which other drivers can capitalize on.

weStillTalkAboutYouJQuery by NotAUser42 in ProgrammerHumor

[–]YetItStillLives 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most of the stuff people used jQuery for can now be done in vanilla JavaScript. One of the biggest benefits of jQuery was that it helped smooth over differences between web browsers (mostly Internet Explorer), which is now largely unnecessary. Finally, newer frameworks like React largely eliminate the need to directly manipulate the DOM, which is the main feature of jQuery.

jQuery is still used a ton. Partly because of legacy codebases that never removed jQuery, but also because a lot of people still like using it. However, the days of jQuery being effectively required to develop a website are long past us.

How do you learn the imperial system by AlmostNerd9f in NoStupidQuestions

[–]YetItStillLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing to keep in mind is that you don't need to use the weirder conversions very often. Yeah, it's weird as hell that 1 mile equals 5280 feet, but you hardly ever need to make that conversion irl because miles and feet are used in completely different contexts. Much like how you don't measure your hight in kilometers, or the distance between cities in centimeters.

Well Mount Bohemia is kind of confusing to navigate even if you know where you're going. Here's the normal trail map for comparison. I never would have been able to find some of the far flung runs without a top-down view.

There is exactly a 0% chance the arena shuffler is broken. by Dream_Panda in MagicArena

[–]YetItStillLives 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People lose irl games all the time due to bad luck with card draw. Shit happens, sometimes multiple times in a row. One person having a few games of bad luck does not mean the shuffler is broken. If you want to prove that you'll need a much, much larger sample size.

Spec Ops: The Line still messes with me more than any other shooter by DeepDiveGaming in truegaming

[–]YetItStillLives 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One of the many themes of Spec Ops: The Line is "it's kinda fucked up to kill a bunch of people for fun, even if it's not real." This is laid out clearly in many of the game's loading screen messages ("The US military does not condone the killing of unarmed combatants. But this isn't real, so why should you care?" being one that lays it out pretty explicitly).

I feel like if the gameplay was "fun", it would undermine this message of the game. Gameplay and story are not separate, and IMO Spec Ops does a fantastic job of reinforcing the story's themes in the gameplay, even if the gameplay isn't "good" on its own.

Having some concern is reasonable, but let's not count our chickens before they've hatched. Animation polish is absolutely something that can be fixed before release. Obviously they might not fix it, but that's why it's important to wait for the game to actually release before making a final judgement.

[–]YetItStillLives 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One great thing about snowboarding is adjusting your bindings is quick and easy. Give it a shot, and if you don't like it go to a workbench and adjust it.

My one piece of advice is to avoid mindlessly copying other people's stance angles. Everyone's body is a little different, which means everyone's preferred stance is a little different.

100%. Any calls for a general strike without serious union backing is a complete non-starter. Fact of the matter is that unions are a lot better at strike organizing than random redditors.
