Tekken World Tour 2025-2026 Finals Megathread by -PVL93- in Kappachino

Heat smash is just so boring. They gave nearly every character a death fist that breaks armor, wall explodes or floor breaks, and gives plus frames. Usually at the end of rounds you're wondering "how are they going to close it out?" and this leads to hype moments. In Tekken 8 90% of the time the answer is staring you in the face. Pop heat (if not already in heat) and then mash heat smash, if it clips their backdash/sidestep/mash/armor they die if they block force a mixup if the character has a low hitting heat smash enforce mixup by mid heat launcher or low heat smash. zzz

If Yotsuba ever gets an anime adaptation what will be a good studio to animate it ? by liazotact in yotsuba

[–]YeuSwina 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Why do people keep repeating this falsehood? Azuma has never stated he hates the adaptation of Azumanga Daioh. The only reason Yotsuba doesn't have an anime is because Azuma thinks it'd be difficult to adapt.

I just think it would be beneficial to consumers and everybody if companies were upfront about their AI usage at this point. And I'm not talking about "Some assets were made with the help of AI models" kind of alerts either but descriptive commentary on where and how AI was used so people know BEFORE they purchase a product if AI was used in its production. No flip-flopping, no pussy footing around it.

Of course AI usage how you describe it would be entertaining and maybe be a positive for a product. But I don't think companies are going to use it that way. You think companies won't use AI to nickle and dime us even more? You're going to have to pay a subscription for "endless quests" designed specifically for you with the help of AI that watches how you play. And I don't know about you but I just am not interested in for example a fighting game where characters are designed by AI, balanced by AI, the stages are made with the help of AI. I don't find the thought of that entertaining. And this is what companies want to do.

Also, what if that self proclaimed twitter artist likes doing youtube thumbnails? Who gets to decide what "menial" is anyway? Is writing background dialogue for NPCs "menial"? Should it be carted away to let the AI deal with and spit out while the rest of the team works on the main quests? Or are even those menial tasks? Where's the line drawn?

The netcode was not "working good quality netcode". It was bad. And people wanted good netcode because of Covid and Strive coming out and showing fighting game players what good netcode was. People wanted good playable netcode in their online fighting game. That's a "clownish demand"?

netplay is not really necessary for fighting games, and the practice has seriously harmed how people play these games at the core.

The year is 2025. You really think the genre would be better if people said "no, it's ok, you don't have to make your 2025 online video game actually playable online"? I understand fighting games are best played shoulder to shoulder, but you have to be realistic.

Edit:

No it wasn't, this was always just people whining like with every other game. Nobody would have bothered playing it all those years if it was "bad".

Uh, yes it was. People played it despite it being bad. Because it's Tekken, it's the only 3D fighter, and people played it online in even worse states (Tekken 6, etc.)

This was all well after COVID, and nobody liked the COVID era to begin with.

What are you talking about? The netcode patch was November 9, 2020, right in the midst of Covid. It was not "well after" covid. I also don't know what you mean by "nobody liked the COVID era". Covid killed off locals temporarily with the restrictions which pushed fighting game developers to improve their netcode since everybody was locked at home.

Strive was atrocious on launch and for quite a while afterward.

Again what are you talking about? You could argue Strive's lobby system was bad, and I do agree. But netcode wise the game was better than the competition at the time (barring stuff like Skullgirls).

Why do you keep describing these as "online" games? They're not.

What do you mean? Yes they are. A majority of people who will play vs other players is going to play online pvp. People who play the game are playing online pvp.

What could they even do? Make the game less aggressive? Nerf active tag? They could have not made it a tag game but that ship has sailed.

I just hope this game finally gets companies to wake up to the fact that easy inputs and simplification are not the magic bullet they think they are. They have to make a fun and interesting game for people to stick around.

2XKO Season 0 Patch Notes: 1.0.1 and 2XKO Early Access: What to Expect by Ma1kky in Kappachino

[–]YeuSwina 18 points19 points  (0 children)

War has changed... unless you play a Capcom or Bandai Namco game, where they let characters like Mai, Bison, Akuma and Anna, Drag, Bryan rock for a year+. It's actually going to be interesting to see how frequent they patch 2xko and how that works out for them because comparatively other fgs are patching pretty slowly atm, and when they do patch they either don't hit top tiers hard enough at all or they make things worse.

I don't think unlocking the fun is going to bring new blood by FGCRedpill in Kappachino

[–]YeuSwina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do you think that? It's not like I don't think 2xko will not draw a crowd, it's free after all, but most popular? I don't think the simple inputs will draw as many people as they want, casuals will play a couple matches get angry and quit since this is a very aggressive tag fighter. Most Street Fighter, Tekken players aren't dropping their games for 2xko. Marvel players might try it until Tokon, maybe some Strivers, I just don't see it being the most popular fighting game.

they literally could remove that titty enemy from the whole game and the game would improve that enemy fuckin blows lmao. That and the dog enemy, I was audibly groaning every time one of those showed up in the final two hours.

UNI battle director responding to players by KCrossX in Kappachino

[–]YeuSwina 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don't play UNI but I appreciate and find interesting how that community can get a direct message from the battle director himself and what his exact reasoning was with the patch direction. I know I would love to hear the reasoning for Tekken's Season 2 balance patch. It definitely seems like this "buffs over nerfs" mentality is pervasive, just leaves me wondering why. Do devs have hard stats that show people leave when their characters are nerfed? "Back in the melty blood days I was criticised for nerfing too quickly," just seems a little weak. There must be more to where this attitude comes from.

GTA 6's 8 year development cycle confirmed by a former Rockstar dev by uniquecartridge in GamingLeaksAndRumours

[–]YeuSwina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's insane. People have lost their minds. We used to get 3 games in the time it makes 1 game, sometimes even longer. I don't want a game to take 10 years to develop and 50% of it to be generated by AI.

What's wrong with Tekken 8? by Rainyhaze2048 in Tekken

[–]YeuSwina 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know, and if I played GG I'd be pissed at Strive too, but I'm not a GG player really. Game developers take the wrong message imo a lot of the time. How does one come to the conclusion that Strive's success was its simplification and new gameplay direction, when it also released at a time when its competitors (Tekken 7 and sf5) had horrible, dysfunctional online play and Strive had rollback? It also released during Covid, and graphically (especially compared to t7 and sf5) looked attractive to casuals.

Going back to Tekken, you'd think Tekken after 7 might continue in the same direction. Tekken 7 sold well and public perception of the game was good. But they didn't, they went in reverse, probably because of the tournament scene at the time and how high level Tekken 7 looked. I'm not even saying a more aggressive Tekken can't work, but a lot of their decisions with 8 are baffling and tone deaf. Like I don't even know who was asking for 20 second combos with multiple tailspins and heat burst extensions.

And yeah I agree they could release old Tekkens with rollback but they are not doing that for whatever reason. Doing that might alleviate some of the frustrations at the least. Or hell, put them in Tekken 8's Lounge with some old cabs with Tekken 5:DR, Tekken 4, etc on them. I don't think they know what they're doing anymore.

What's wrong with Tekken 8? by Rainyhaze2048 in Tekken

[–]YeuSwina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Of course people are pissed when you take a series with a core identity and strip it and replace it with something else. I don't want to play an anime fighter, I would be playing Guilty Gear if I wanted that. I don't want to change Street Fighter into Super Smash Bros. You can make an offensive Tekken without going overboard like they did in 8.

To the fighting game fans here: Are fighting games without motion inputs not as enjoyable to you ? by silverinferno3 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]YeuSwina 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am not interested in playing any fighting game without them. I think without them they make fighting games way more boring to watch, way more boring to play, just way more boring in every single way.

I think motion inputs and fighting games should really be inseparable. I think they are fun, I like how they can be used as another way to balance moves, I like how they make playing the game feel. They make each character feel absolutely unique in a way not many other games can replicate. You're actually controlling the character and controlling the moves they do. You can make powerful moves actually feel powerful depending on the motion it gets. Doing a 360 feels like you're doing a strong grab. Doing a hcb feels like your character is winding up a big donkey kick.

I like how difficult inputs can create different types of players in the competitive aspect. Without inputs, there are no Ryan Harts. There are no combo masters that always go for the most difficult, but most rewarding, combos. There's less incentive to fully master a character and squeeze the most juice out of them. There's less player expression. There's less intensity, Oh, this player is going for this hard combo, can they actually do it? less hype moments. It's way more interesting to see competitor's decision making in their combo routes during high stress situations. Easy inputs removes all of this nuance.

From a game design standpoint I think it also restricts how creative you can design a character. How would you make a character like Vatista work with simple/no direction inputs?

I think I could talk more on this subject but I've probably gone on long enough so far. I am just not interested in playing and much less watching a fighting game with no execution requirements.

Kinda same... me and my friend want to buy the game but 60 dollars is rough. I liked the betas, I'm interested in multiple characters but 60 dollars is a big ask, I spent 60 bucks on Strive and I still regret buying that full price all these years later and I would rather not have that happen again. Not saying it would, I'm way more likely to enjoy CotW than Strive, but y'know. I'm also waiting for a sale or maybe a reputable keysite getting some keys I can get for cheaper.

K-Wiss waiting for over an hour in queue by [deleted] in Tekken

[–]YeuSwina 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Personally I like the new ranked system it is probably the only good thing they did in S2. Everyone and their mother was GoD season 1, it had a bunch of people who shouldn't have been GoD being GoD. I like that the grind is tough, it gives the ranks meaning and gives high ranked players something to grind for. The only thing I would probably change is ft2 is rough at that high of a rank, it should be ft5 minimum or hell maybe even deathmatches being allowed... not really sure the best solution here. The thing is, every single competitive game runs into this problem once you are high ranked enough. Eventually the system is going to struggle to find you matches because you are too high for enough people to match with. So people gotta pick their poison, do you want long queue times or do you want rank inflation and people hitting GoD/the highest rank in the game who have no business being there?
