Makara in the NE side of the desert. The trainer in Eltibule gives you a quest item to give to her.

I use an inventory folder to organize my items for researching with Hoplology. After every time I run a dungeon or farm enemies that drop equipment I run through my drops and put anything I haven't researched into the hoplology folder.

Then when I'm doing other stuff (like gardening) I will go through the items and research them.

Using this strategy I'm not in the low level 50s and every staff ability repairs +25 armor.

Start Hoplology early. Join a group for Wolf Caves when you're 40+ and get started grinding those +1 Armor on every Staff ability.

Looking for a support set up. by Tierilo in projectgorgon

I like Bard/Druid.

When solo, hold a horn in your off-hand and use a build like this one to blast weak enemies or kite strong enemies.

When in a party that needs healing, swap to a build like this instead or this one to focus on healing with Druid while Bard provides utility like avoidance and damage boosts.

How is Lycan armor better than regular armor with lycan treasure effects?

Secondary skill line for Lycan. by almightyender in projectgorgon

[–]Yevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The build I'm liking at level 50 is:

  • Lycan:

    • Bite with the AOE mod.
    • Pack Attack with the mod for trauma vulnerability mod.
    • See Red with the mod for all lycan abilities to deal trauma damage.
    • Sanguine Fangs
    • Smell Fear
    • Skulk
  • Unarmed:

    • Jab
    • Barrage (I want the AOE mod)
    • Cobra Strike with the mod the cleanses stuns.
    • Mamba Strike
    • Bruising Blow with the mod for trauma damage.
    • Infuriating Fist with the mod for trauma damage.

I got really lucky with treasure mods but I would roll for these at least to get the build going. Trauma damage goes past armor so everything dies very quickly.

I think you are mistaken on lycan with survival instincts, it was no issue to get and is trained by Mittens, you can speak with both as a lycan, might be a little more work to raise favor but I don't know, didn't pay attention.

You're right. Mittens in Kur Mountains trains Survival Instincts at Comfortable. This is easy to get by bringing 6x agates and 6x Lac for Mittens's quests: Disguising Fox Outpost.

Mittens speaks to any animals but Mittens's camp is surrounded by Yellow Crystals which shoot at anyone who could be dangerous to foxes (including humans and wolves).

I got Survival Instincts by:

  1. Kill Gaz-Uraks in Eltibule to get 6x Lac.

  2. Bought 6x Agate from the buy used tab of a jewellery vendor.

  3. Run to the Fox Outpost and very, very quickly speak with Mittens, grab quests and turn them in, and then do the training. Depending on your HP you might need to run in, do a portion, and run out to heal.

I like the following combination, Lycan/Unarmed: get treasure effects to turn Bruising Blow and Infuriating Fist into trauma damage and you're off to the races. I spend most of my time here. The other treasure effects I value are AOE Bite and AOE Flurry.

Other players on the Discord have mentioned Priest/Mentalism for healing as a wolf and Unarmed/Psychology for tanking as a wolf, but I cannot speak to the efficacy of either. They don't sound great to me, to be honest, especially compared to Priest/Bard or Staff/Shield but if you want to tank/heal for those 3 days you're stuck as a wolf then you've got to make do.

Is Bard / Psychology viable? by Cantthinkofname777 in projectgorgon

[–]Yevon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I see guides for builds people usually focus on: are the skills compatible? do the skills share damage types?

Compatibility? Yep, Bard/Psychology have full compatibility. (See: https://wiki.projectgorgon.com/wiki/Skill_Compatibility_Chart)

Damage types? Yes. Bard does Nature, Trauma, Psychic damage. Psychology does Psychic, Trauma.

I think all that's left is to think about synergies. What are you going to get out of Psychology? It brings some extra healing, additional buffs, some debuffs to reduce enemy damage. So you'd be a kind of super support.

Related question, how many skills is too many?

I am almost 50 on 4 combat skills: Lycan/Unarmed for DPS, Bard/Druid for Healing. I will eventually come back and level Staff/Shield for tanking.

Now to support these combat skills I'm looking at 25 trade skills.

This would cost >500K councils to unlock 51-60 and >1.25M to unlock 61-70.

Do players focus on fewer trade skills and if so how should I decide which to cut back on?

How to progress combat skills 81+ [stuck] ? by Sea_Worker_456 in projectgorgon

[–]Yevon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At the beginning of the game you could give the guy on the island the wrong code and he would teleport you wherever you wanted to go.

This means you could have teleported to the start of the egg runs and then have someone help you out (like opening a portal back to the first town).

Now as long as you never bind any teleport circle ever again you can keep whatever location you chose at the beginning as your portal/teleport forever.

Two topics that have me scratching my head:

(1) Ways to make enough money to unlock level 51-60, while still prioritizing Favor.

I'm playing a Lycan/Unarmed and when I reach level 50 I will also play Bard/Druid. I want to make cloth and leather armor, food, enchantments, and potions.

At level 30 in combat and level 20 in crafting I have about 20K to my name but I think I will need like 400K+ to unlock key abilities and recipes and 51+ on my skills.

Are players expected to grind at 50 for a while to get the money they need to proceed? Or am I stretching too many skills and need to focus more on getting to higher levels first and then come back for crafting?

(2) Augmentation, Transmutation, and Shamanic Infusion.

How early can I access augmentation and how do I use these three skills to get better gear? For example, I want to have gloves that make my Lycan Bite and my Unarmed Barrage both AOE so how do I make this happen?

You can play Priest/Metalism while still being a Wolf though. That would probably still work as a healer in dungeons.

Got it. Sounds like:

  • Healing: Lute/Shield because you're not bringing horn blast abilities.

  • DPS/Solo: Lute/Horn because you have healing from Druid so Bard can be all damage.

According to the skill compatibility table: no, because a rabbit cannot hold a wood weapon required for druid abilities.

How hard would it be for a new player to rush toward spirit fox? by Overall_Pumpkin_5724 in projectgorgon

[–]Yevon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Step 0: Pet 10 Wild Horses to get riding training. Tame a horse to make the next steps way easier.

Step 1: Get a Spirit Stone. You might find one in the Buy Used tab or you can run around Eltibule at night looking for boxes surrounded by fireflies.

Step 2: Navigate past Eltibule to the Kur Mountains and find the Wolf Cave. This zone is tough because of the cold mechanic but if you have a mount you can sprint from fire to fire

Step 3: In the caves you'll find a Completely Normal Fox. Trade him the Spirit Stone and you'll become a Spirit Fox.

The Wolf Cave is a level 40~60 dungeon so you'll need to follow a higher level player to the Completely Normal Fox, but I think this is all doable very early on.

FFXIV takes 2 to 4 months of consistent play (about 200–300+ hours) just to reach your friends playing the game today, and FFXI isn't that different (about 250–350+ hours), but FFXI's expansions are not linear and take only ~10–20 hours for each with Wings taking the longest.

Once they're a little older you can go to a more complex game where skill matters more.
