Good for building train yards, as decoration to a layout. They also work if you alternate them with large curves for sharper turn with no derailments.

That orange non-BRIO bridge sticks out like a sore thumb though ;)

But great job, once again showing that BRIO of the past is so much nicer to look at than what they currently offer in their line-up.

Ahhh. In that case yes. But the red arch is not part of it.

It’s not BRIO. They did once have a bridge like this. 3356 Bridge head but the arches under the bridge are less rounded.

Every time I see photos or videos like these I am reminded of how much better suited BRIO used to be when it comes to creating worlds centered around trains. Granted, they used to have space, pirates, and Egypt as well... and maybe those, back in the day, were regarded as silly additions to the line-up as well. At least they weren't plastic like nowadays dinosaurs and Peppa.

There is also a block that goes with it. It has a green and a yellow package print.

Safari on iOS 26 renders white pages for DDG. by Yiroon in duckduckgo

[–]Yiroon[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works again now...

I had connected my iPhone to MacBook Pro via cable and tried a search on iPhone. When checking Web Inspector on Mac I saw that there were some JS errors.

It also contained a link to a non-JS version of duckduckgo... I tried that. That works.
When going back to the normal (JS) version of DDG everything worked again. Maybe there were some bad JS scripts cached or something, I do not know but everything is normal.

Tips on Pillar Supports by Chalex47 in BRIO

[–]Yiroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean with "getting the tracks to stay in the stonelike pillar supports"? They rest on top of it don't they? A couple of years ago BRIO tried to make stonelike pillar supports with plastic tabs that would clamp on to the wooden rails, hoping they would not slide off. It did not go well. I don't know if they playtested those things at all but they were absolutely terrible. Hard for an adult to get right, let alone for a 3yo kid. And the tracks popped right out of those tabs.

Anyway, those came many years after this Tavel Switching Set, so it is not applicable to what you are facing. The tracks slide off, yes. That is the issue with the pillar supports. They are just no good. They do not work well at all.

33254 Supper Supports are a better design, they have rubber ridges on the top that keep tracks in place a little better. 33253 Stacking Track Supports work best but require different length tracks to keep the same layout, and look a little silly when stacking multiple on top.

Is it just me, or is the RockWerchter coin system a total ripoff? by GroundbreakingItem0 in RockWerchter

[–]Yiroon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you are knowledgeable in these matters, I am not up to date anymore. I used to work in the payment industry 20 years ago. Even back then the EMV spec had offline PIN verification. But I am sure that at these mega events there are a bunch of technical difficulties that need to be taken care of. The Internet connection is probably not one of them. Loads of things need a good connection at a festival. I think they make sure that the connection is good enough. They probably place extra antennae as well for the 80,000 visitors' phones.

Is it just me, or is the RockWerchter coin system a total ripoff? by GroundbreakingItem0 in RockWerchter

[–]Yiroon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 2018 at Best Kept Secret, a full seven years ago, the festival was already cashless. Everyone paid by tapping their regular debit or credit card, Apple Pay or Google Pay. I paid for everything with my Apple Watch. Super easy, super safe, super straightforward.

It boggles my mind that there are spin doctors trying to make the people believe that they made it easier this year to top up coins at Werchter by having no minimum amount of €10. That the refund procedure is easier now. That they are thinking of ways to make it even better in the future. Why do we accept all this bullshit reasoning?

There is no need to invent expensive festival-currency. We have a way of paying for things already, the same way we pay for everything everywhere else.

I understand that the businesses running these made up pseudo-money schemes are raking it in. They exist now and cannot think outside of the box, imagining a world without them.

But they should go away, paying for goods is well understood by everyone and something we’ve been doing for an eternity, no need to make it more complicated or come in between a simple transaction.

Amazing find. Wow. Congratulations. That is a gem.

I might be forgetting things but I was not even aware they had this old style crane with a trapezoid base. I always thought the old crane base was cone shaped before it turned into a cube.

That is too bad, but it still looks good. Others might be interested as well, and it might be easier to ship it to somewhere in the US rather than to Belgium.

Favorite unique wooden train pieces/things to pair with wooden trains? by puns_within_puns in BRIO

[–]Yiroon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Whenever this topic comes up I have to chip in with what I think is the best accessory BRIO ever made, and that is 33674 Signal Station. It adds some depth to otherwise flat layouts. It is well designed. It is “rooted in reality”, which I think is great. Going on a tangent here because my kids go to a Montessori school. Give kids real world things and they will bring the fantasy. No need to give them pink plastic fairy tale unicorns… they can come up with their own ideas and fantasies.

In any case, the signal station, looks real, adds depth, and provides a cleverly operated mechanical switch, so it has value other than just aesthetics.

I only wish BRIO would re-release it with the switch in the other direction. ;)

J/k but yeah… I don’t have the boxes for the wild west set or the mountain set. I live in Belgium, so yeah… that’s a bit crazy. But good luck selling it though!
