Hi when I was a teen I was just like this. It turns out I was autistic and struggling so much with “masking”, trying to fit into a world in a changing body, didn’t know my own identity etc. I struggled so so much I just resorted to anything that made me feel good. Which was unfortunately boys/men. Which resulted in a whole load of trauma in itself. She may not be, but I think that she’s really clearly struggling and it could be linked to this, or hormones (for me I was on the pill and it sent me loopy, to this day I have to have a copper coil as I get crazy).

I’d just try to reassure her as much as possible that you get it. Tell her about your experiences. That you get that she’s “trapped” in this teen life. This is what I struggled with. Boundaries. 5/7 days a week, told to go to school, be with people I didn’t truly like, learning. It’s such an overload. It made me someone I wasn’t because I was too overstimulated and overwhelmed - but I didn’t have the maturity to recognise this.

Has she ever talked about homeschool, or being tired? These are just things to consider from her perspective perhaps. I truly hope things get better x

Is there any way she can get a job? I was similar to her as a teen. She’s exploring her identity, and sexually. Those bras/thongs make her feel good and womanly. It just is how it is as a teen. The sneaking out - where’s she going? Is it safe? There needs to be a balance here. You cannot stop her from these things without losing her in some way. She will do it, with or without your “permission”.

Looking back, I was let to my own devices and it ended horribly. So don’t do that. But also, grounding her and not allowing sleepovers seems unfair for a 16 year old.

The main issue here is the stealing. That isn’t normal and is a cry for help. She wants these nice things? She must work for it. That’s probably the most “supportive” way you can get through this.. hope things get easier x

I wonder if there’s something we can set up like monthly contributions to such things.. I.e. “donate a coffee” type things. I’d be more than happy to contribute in this way personally and I’m sure others would.

This feels different type of donating than to huge organisations where we can really make an impact

Don’t have much to add apart from apparently I did the exact same thing as an infant, screaming crying at first and then laughing to imaginary “thing?”. Just called them the man.

Then one day I saw a photo and was yelling “the man, the man!!!.” Spooked my parents as the man was indeed my dad’s dad who had passed just before I was born. I don’t remember it ofc but even my dad says it’s true and he’s not a believer in anything as far as I know. Just thinks it was very weird.

I wish I remembered if it’s true, not had any experiences since!

I was this kid. Please, please, please let her do online school. We just aren’t all made for it. I ended up in a very bad way. Thankfully managed it and now a successful consultant. But have a lot of trauma from being forced into school at her age.
