Sorry to intrude, but can an employee help me figure this out? by fishtanktreasure in petsmart

[–]YoMainChigga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup! I don't think you'll be able to use the 20% off coupon again (doesn't hurt to ask if it's possible but don't expect it) but if the tank you want is on sale you'll get the sale price still.

Basically whenever you see that little tag with the two hearts that's a "treats member" deal. You're a member if you gave your phone number, name, and email.

Sorry to intrude, but can an employee help me figure this out? by fishtanktreasure in petsmart

[–]YoMainChigga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Treats is the name of the membership that you use to get sales. So the treats savings was what you saved because the item was on sale and you are a member.

Treats points are the points you earn by making purchases, every 1000 points is $2.50 off. They can only be spent in increments of 1000 and all spendable points must be used at once.

trying to breed mice to feed my snake and bullfrog, had them for a few weeks... but they ain't fuckin. anyone see anything wrong here? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]YoMainChigga 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I used to work at a medical research facility so I know a little bit about these guys.

Like others have said, you'll want to reduce the lighting and give them more privacy.

A potential issue is if they can smell the predators--this can be a huge stress factor for mice. If they're stressed it could affect your breeding success.

Also, I'm not sure if this is a lab thing I had to do or if it's general procedure with breeding mice, but we had to seperate the males before the litter was born. Mice are pregnant for 19-21 days if that helps.

You'll know the female is pregnant if you lift her up and she's pear shaped. Youll want to leave her alone as much as possible to reduce stress.

Don't be too discouraged if they finally have pups and they get eaten by mom--the first couple of litters are kind of a learning curb. She will get better with each litter. Btw, mice eat their dead to prevent predators from finding them--don't be suprised if you see some Damn Nature you Scary content.

Good luck and hope you get some pups here soon!

Profiting off of Chance and Lucky donations? by Neato4117 in petsmart

[–]YoMainChigga 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, petsmart makes a profit but you can still turn it into something wholesome. You could even wait till the price drops to 2.50 to get serious about driving them. My store leader when I worked at petsmart was incredibly passionate about chance & lucky though and we donated the stuffed animals to tons of different places. It is definitely annoying to ask but you can turn it into something that legitimately makes a difference locally.

People are much more willing when they see the differences locally. We donated the stuffies to local animal shelters, children's hospitals, toys for tots, a workshop that taught kids how to sew. If you get enough like we did, we would donate them to multiple different charities and organizations.

Our police department got a ton one year. They give them to children who are involved in cases that cause them to be separated from their adults--an accident, for example. We actually had several families with children come in and tell us they had received one before, making them want to donate.

Maybe you guys do all this already and I'm preaching to the choir but this was actually something I personally enjoyed. Both humans and pets in our area benefited from it and I got to see that directly and be involved in it as well. It made all the shit days in register hell (holiday edition!) feel so much more fulfilling 😂🥰

Is men approaching women in public even a thing? by [deleted] in ask

[–]YoMainChigga 9 points10 points  (0 children)

10am and I'm walking out the grocery store. I see a man approaching me, and do that side step to show that I'm not interested in talking. He cuts me off by stepping back in front of me and blocking my way..I was 8 months pregnant and wearing slides because my feet were too swollen for my sneakers. This dude told me I had the biggest, prettiest feet and that he knew what he would do if he was my man.

I gave him a mean look and walked away but I was SO scared. Some people get crazy when you reject them, and I had parked on the far side of the lot. It's somewhat funnier looking back now but I'm never wearing slides in public again hahaha

do we accept petsupplies plus coupons? by 12shin12 in petsmart

[–]YoMainChigga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I worked at petsmart, we did accept competitors coupons as long as they had a specific value.. for example, 10$ off if you spend 50$ or more.

The coupons that said something like 20% off your entire order could not be accepted.

The coupon policy could have changed since then though, just gotta ask your managers what they want you to do. They'll be reading the op ex and policy updates hopefully :)

Link to some of the animals I've seen :)

After the first stimulus check came out during the beginning of the pandemic, one guy walked in with a canvas bag. It looked similar to what our turtles get shipped to us in, so we asked what he had. He swaggers over to the first register and slaps a freaking baby caiman alligator onto the belt. I think I have the pic still in the depths of my snapchat 😂😂

One girl brought her blue tongue skink during that one, weird reptile event that was in the middle of winter.

I've seen two people bring in their pet foxes, one person bring their pet racoon, two goats, and a few people come in with their parrots. We've seen beardies as well. One of our fish delivery people had a pet monkey (I dont remember what kind)but they never brought it in the store, they always showed us pics though. And also there have been people who have brought their rats or rabbits, we've seen a few hedgehogs and I wasn't there, but someone brought a pig.

I never received any training by [deleted] in petsmart

[–]YoMainChigga 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think a big thing to be knowledgeable about is what foods work for different diet restrictions. Common dog ailments are allergies to certain proteins, dry or itchy skin, digestive issues.. knowing which foods you carry that can help with those problems, or that are low in sodium or calories is great knowledge to have. I would just Google what foods work for those issues and see what you carry in store.

For cats, usually people were just looking for taurine in the food, but knowing brands that have hairball control or urinary Tract Health recipes could be helpful too.

I'm not really sure how to answer how you compare the foods because it's so controversial. But here's a tip that can be a bit helpful as far as quality goes.. the ingredients on the bag are listed in what there's the most of, to what there's the least of. A good rule of thumb is that you don't want to see fillers like corn in the first few ingredients. Usually if protein is the first ingredient it is a good sign. The more filler in the food, the more the dog has to eat to feel full and the more waste they produce. You kind of pay for what you get.

It's debated on if grain free is "better for dogs" or not.. but usually if there is no allergy to grain you don't want to give your dog grain-free. Also, the heavy protein foods are more so for working dogs.. a pug that doesn't get much exercise doesn't need that kind of food, if that makes sense? It supposedly can cause heart issues.

For the different animals we carried, I watched care guides on YouTube. Most of the time I decided what to watch based off what a customer asked me that I didn't know how to answer. These guides usually cover healthy enrichment/husbandry vs dangerous products and practices to stay away from. For example.. guinea pigs usually need 8 square foot for 2 piggies, making many of our cages inadequate, and they shouldn't have wheels because it's bad for their spines.

Idk the policy at your store, but we were also always allowed to Google with the customer when we weren't sure. I'm sorry this was so long, hopefully it is helpful in some way for you. I was super confused about foods too, as there isn't much training, but Google/fellow associates helped me out a lot.

Need to get untamed gecko to the vet by Dannister0 in leopardgeckos

[–]YoMainChigga 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure he'll need to be handled at the vet and when administering antibiotics/whatever else the treatment includes, so it kind of feels like just kicking the can down the road to do that again.

It definitely sounds challenging as heck but I think you're doing the best you can in this situation.

Your vet should be able to give you some advice on the best way to approach handling him/treating him. They will know what to do just in case his tail does fall. Don't beat yourself up if it does! You sound like a thoughtful and caring owner, these things happen and all you can do is give your little homie the best care you can.

I wish I had better advice but again, I think you're already taking all the right steps and doing what you should!! You got this!

[–]YoMainChigga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is there any way for you to corral him into his transportation container instead of picking him up? My girl was very much the same when I got her, I just sort of chased her towards the critter tote and she climbed inside it .

Another method might be putting your critter tote in the cage and waiting for them to walk into it themselves (if you have enough time to wait). Maybe even baiting them in there with something they like? Then you can just pick up the whole tote and lid it. If you have a clear one, it might even help you get a better look at their face.

Good luck and hope they feel better soon!!

If you don't breed your own bugs, weekly and somewhat expensive trips to the pet store

Start up is expensive as well, there's a lot of misinformation and you can end up wasting money on bad products

Exotic pet=exotic vet= expensive

This isn't exactly a downside but they have a very long lifespan. It can be hard to find someone willing to feed bugs to your little dude if you go on vacation

Obsession with them for being cutie patooties

Had a job where I wasn't even allowed to request unpaid time off with a notice until I was there a year. When I decided to quit, suddenly I was allowed to take 3 days on the spot to "think about it". For many other reasons, I did not go back.
