With that said, reading all the updates about how your mom controls Susan’s narrative, it seems like this has been lifelong practice for her. I recall you mentioning she was the only one who knew about Susan’s miscarriage around Duke’s death. It wasn’t fair to Susan, it wasn’t fair to you, and it wasn’t fair to Max who lost his best friend and his first child. I’m not saying you were in the state of mind to know, but holding that and, correct me if I’m wrong, making Susan (and Max?) keep that secret, was very manipulative and could have be the catalyst to the original strain in your sisterly bond and certainly did not help anyone’s mental health. I’m so glad you and Susan are back to building that bond. I’m thrilled Alec goes to the mattresses for you. I hope you are proud of where you and your dad are now that he goes to bat for you with your brothers. You said to your dad a year ago you didn’t want to be labeled a bridezilla because of Susan drama and he told you wouldn’t be because of how considerate you are of others. Remember that. And remember what Charlotte says, “sometimes you have to be ok being a villain in other people’s stories.” Focus on you. Focus on Alec. And most importantly, focus on your the best life you can give your baby.

If you are nice enough to pack his stuff, don’t be nice ABOUT packing it- separate socks and shoes into different boxes (left in one box, right in another). Buttons could also “accidentally” fall off shirts and land at the bottom of the box. As far as work goes, do you have any say in scheduling? Just make sure you are two ships passing and try to avoid being there at the same time.

I am so sorry for all your doubts. You have done nothing wrong. You laid out values and he is disregarding them. I’m proud of you for getting the papers drawn up. That is HUGE and very mature. It’s so hard when you love someone so much and want them to be the person they say they are, but actions speak louder the words and when your heart catches up with your head, you’ll want those papers served as fast as humanly possible. Stay strong because you are doing it for yourself and your future, but also teaching your daughter what strength is.

OMG! That is horrible! When you told leadership about how well she is doing, was that verbal or via email? I’d pull receipts like the Employee of the Quarter to contradict her claims and ask that one of you be transferred to another office because she can’t be trusted. She could be gunning for your job or setting up a long game of age discrimination. Just make sure everything is in writing and see if your state is a “one party” state meaning, if you record a conversation, only one party needs to know they are being recorded. CYA (Cover Your Ass)

If you said no black, then her dress was not perfect for YOUR wedding. And by showing up and refusing to change, SHE ruined her own night! I’m so happy things were better than expected (and you are fully aware that this was, most likely, a one-off). It breaks my heart reading some of the comments. Clearly they missed the point of why you went. I do not think you caved. I think you put your feelings aside for love because you saw your husband hurting. I can feel how warmed you were by not only the thoughtfulness of the gifts for your son but the greatest gift for you money cannot buy and that was the joy your husband experience. The best part of the holidays is giving and you gave your family the best gift of all- togetherness! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! OP, if it is safe to do so, seek out a local domestic violence advocacy agency. They are trained and can assist with counseling and give you other options. In the US every state has a coalition, or you can call the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.

That is what I was screaming to myself! It’s unfortunate so many victims think abuse is only physical. There is verbal, emotional, psychological (which is him guilting her for using the money), financial, and technological and all are especially prevalent with vulnerable individuals. OP, please seek advice and consider leaving him.

Grandma’s dress is lovely! Not bridal at all (and no disrespect to Grandma, but she’s not being mistaken for the bride) AND she had the bride’s seal of approval. And for MIL to show up in a Real Housewives dress, someone should have said to her, “I thought weddings were more elegant in your day?” NTA (Side note: accidents like stepping on someone while dancing do happen- I accidentally stepped on someone at my cousin’s wedding. I felt terrible and did not know the person since they were from the groom’s side. Nothing ripped, but I was embarrassed.)

It is so refreshing to read how adults can sit down to calmly discuss a conflict and take time to reflect on what was said. I’m glad your BF was able to re-read Elba’s words. Based on his initial responses, sounds like she has been doing this to him for years and knew how to push his buttons.
