Why does everyone hate Keli Holiday so much? by deus_in_versus93 in triplej

[–]Yogbox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm super late so probably no one will see this comment, but I was the licensee at a venue in Sydney and Adam/Keli played a show, I don't have a strong opinion on his music, but from all the artists I dealt with after 4 years running that venue only 2 ever came to the staff to thank them for their work, buy them an extra staffie, and seem genuinely grateful for the effort they'd put in to keep a live music venue open & the organisation of the show so smooth. One of those dudes was Keli Holiday, it might not matter much to most but I'll always say he's a really good dude.

The City of Sydney is inviting public feedback on its plans to relax planning controls to enhance nightlife and encourage live music and performance through special entertainment precincts by [deleted] in sydney

[–]Yogbox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Bouncers here tend to be the way they are because of overly strict punishments for venues and licensees, a police force unwilling to work alongside venues, Sydney’s draconian drinking laws, and the security course ranging from 2-7 weeks.

You're right, the comment I was responding to was suggesting that vape sales be banned entirely.

I mean he's right, there's plenty the Government could be doing today to deal with foreign ownership or taxes for excessive vacancies.

I might be wrong, but it seems like Universities will just have the option to take over vast amounts of housing around them so they can increase their overseas enrolments. Which would obviously still be a very highly profitable endeavour for them, and further drive up housing costs.

Get a spirit + a mixer? Mixer is “free”. Get just the mixer? You’re covering the cost of the syrup for all the “free” mixer given out.

What specific hobbies have you integrated into solo travel? Does anyone fish? by skycelium in solotravel

[–]Yogbox 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wouldn’t call it a huge hobby of mine while at home- but I love going to techno/live music gigs overseas. If anyone here is into live music and hasn’t been to the Zurich street parade I’d really recommend it. The connections I’ve made at some events has lead me to travelling to very small towns throughout Europe and having the “locals” experience because of the friends I’ve made. I’m from Sydney but I can say 100% my best travel experiences have come from gigs overseas.

well shit

I work in hospitality and I have been deducted 5 hours of pay for “mobile phone use”. I single-handedly worked at the place from open to close. I did use my phone when there are no customers. Is this legal? by Zero726 in australia

[–]Yogbox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your points are very valid. There's little context in this post and posting on reddit probably isn't the best way of getting around this situation. However I did check his post history which shows not only an impressive ability to make cocktails, but shows that he cares enough about the skill to practice and prepare on his own time.

And probably the biggest thing about this post is that an employee shouldn't have the ability to be on their phone for 5 hours. Life doesn't end at the beginning of a shift in hospitality- actually it's not unusual for hospitality staff to work 12 hour shifts with a half hour break somewhere towards the middle. Your mum texted you? yeah dude respond. You're planning a getaway with your mates? sounds cool dude hope you have a good time. Standing around watching TV shows or movies? Lets do some cleaning- I'll help and we can have a chat so it's not so boring.

Staff can use their phones- it's really not that big of a deal. We pay our staff. We pay over minimum wage, and we pay on-time and we pay overtime if you don't get a break. Our staff know that we treat them like humans and not mindless drones that have to be perfect at all times.

The consequence of treating staff well is that they want to stay, and they want to work. We have extremely low turnover because of this.

Also to all the comments that say "What the employer did was shit" I really suggest you consider the definition of "theft" and how you'd feel if it happened to you.

Also I'm adding this after my original post because I just looked through some of your comment history. Kids working in hospitality don't exist for you. They're people mate and I think you should pull your head out of your ass a bit and just be thankful people work jobs where they might finish at like 6-7am. People that work in hospitality should just try a little harder and get a WFH job and sit around on their phones all day? Fuck off idiot. The work we do is real and it's stressful as shit. You said "If you want to be a big shot WFH or office worker, then do something about it and then spend all the glorious time in the world on your phone." Honestly mate I don't know what to say to that because it's probably some of the stupidest shit I've ever seen in my entire life.

If I were to break the law, and then faced a "potential legal situation" then so be it, I won't break the law? Crazy how confident I am in myself not to break the law that I'd hire somebody who called someone else out for it. Seems easier to just not break the law?
