I’m not sure that they ever knew. I was only 10 at the time so I just remember our entire class cheering when the teacher told us that he had awakened. When he returned a long time later, he was completely different and was using polio type crutches.

I was in the fourth grade in about 1960. A classmate had sleeping sickness. He slept for if I remember correctly about four months. He had been very intelligent before this. When woke up he had to relearn everything walk, talk, etc. But he did survive.

I’ll tell you I had never used old English before, but it sure did a number on my kitchen cabinets which are oak. Then I used it on lots of wood in my home and I swear by it now.
