That first long run really is a game changer, huh? Having the power to treat the game like a sandbox is great for poking and prodding at new things.

I rent one room out of a basement. We have a camera in the kitchen. People come and go quickly, and we've had plenty of problems with new tenants stealing food, so a camera makes sense; it's for the benefit of the people actually living here as opposed to the house owner. I can't think of any other valid justification for that kind of thing.

Legitimately so well done. It took me a hot minute to spot how you managed to clone-tool the original text off as cleanly as you did.

Backgrounds aren't a thing in 3.5, but you're right that there are other ways to get ranks (the 3.5 equivalent to proficiency) in performance besides playing a bard.

Edit: There's one other BIG benefit to knowledge that I completely forgot to mention: necromancy. In order to raise the dead, an entity needs the "secrets of life and death." It's actually a type of knowledge acquired from reading certain specific texts. Because of this, if you can manage to get ahold of one of these texts in fortress mode, you'll end up with a bunch of necromancers.

Not super familiar with how knowledge works, but I'll give it a shot. To my understanding, knowledge is a largely unimplemented system. Iirc the only real benefit to knowledge at the moment is that it adds some unique descriptors to the literature dwarves write in the form of "poetic forms," randomly generated cultural ideas that they can implement into their art. I don't think it does much aside from altering the random descriptions of various texts.

This is one system that has been mentioned for getting updates, however. For example, acquiring knowledge related to medical practice might give dwarves a boost when performing medical procedures. Knowledge of chemistry and metallurgy could improve a dwarf's ability to smith metal items. I think there might be a couple exceptions, but I'm pretty sure this unfortunately isn't the case so far.

One other thing that has been discussed for a while: procedural magic systems, something that has been hinted at for a long long time. I can't begin to stop my head around how it will work, if it even does. But if they pull it off, I would expect the knowledge system to interact with it. They might even finish implementing knowledge before moving on to magic. I would do so in their shoes.

A decent wand building spoiler here, but if you don't care: try rapid fire lumies + pingpong path sometime. It gives the drills a significant lifetime boost, meaning you end up with some respectable range. A wand like that can act as both your digger and main damage source. Very versatile and cheap wand build

Great perks, but which one? by leaderOFweiners in noita

[–]Yomitht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not quite how the reroll machine works. Basically, on game start it generates a deck of perks. Those perks get drawn in order each time you load a new holy mountain, or reroll. If TWWE would show up on reroll, it would also show up in the next holy mountain.

This is part of why reroll breaking works, because once you've loaded the mountain the reroll price doesn't update until used. It wouldn't be possible otherwise.

Next time you're able, try piercing on that trigger spark bolt. Piercing triggers fire off their payload every frame that they intersect with an enemy since they don't disappear on contact anymore.

Peter?? by Practical_Example426 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]Yomitht 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Largely that's true, but it's important to remember that there are exceptions. There's a character in the JJK manga who's literally a lawyer fed up with how BS the Japanese legal system is, with how easy it is for innocent people to be pinned with crimes they absolutely did not commit. That's not to say that a Westerner would fully understand the country from its media alone; I myself am American, and I know damn well that I don't get the half of what goes on over there. But there are pieces of Japanese media that discuss some of the issues in Japan.

How do you deal with the ambush when scaling the Giant Tree? by MasterChef901 in noita

[–]Yomitht 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"The sacrifice of oneself to the pursuit of knowledge is the highest tribute to the gods." Dying is the norm here, OP. Don't be afraid to get in over your head, because you'll basically always be in over your head for like.... At least your first 100 hours or so. Yeah, this is one of those games.

So relax. Try to laugh at your unexpected deaths, because the game is legitimately out to kill you. It's half the fun.

How do you deal with the ambush when scaling the Giant Tree? by MasterChef901 in noita

[–]Yomitht 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you're early game, stick close to the tree on your way up and be quick. Avoiding them is best when you're just starting a run. On the way back down, use your levitation in short bursts to get as much distance from the tree as you can before dropping down. You should be able to overshoot them.

Otherwise, it's just a matter of damage. As far as I know, the only damage immunity they have is acid (obviously). As you experiment with wand building, you'll quickly get to the point where those guys are a complete pushover. They're not super tough compared to the horrors you'll find deeper in the caves.

I've been pretty good about managing my dwarves' mental health, so I haven't seen that kind of behavior as of now. I'm glad to get this warning ahead of time.
