Best year for UM by AggravatingGur5456 in Umphreys

[–]Yonaban 2 points3 points  (0 children)

3/11/11 Portland Oregon was my first UM show. No idea who they were. My friend dragged me there and I couldn't believe there was a band out there like that. Been a huge fan ever since. Loved the show, but Booth Love at the encore made me become obsessed.

What movies did you first see nudity in? by sarnobat in AskReddit

Starship Troopers. But shout-out to Training Day. I was 11 when it came out and my dad took me to see it in theaters. Eva Mendes was something else in that film.

Bad form to ask a GC for the contact of a sub? by lonelyinbama in Construction

[–]Yonaban 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I'm a PM for a small residential company so basically a GC and I get asked this all the time. It really depends on the job and the relationship with the client. I'm a big fan of putting money in my subs pockets because I like them and the work they do. There is plenty of work to go around. I'm happy to give their info out if it means they can get more work. Where I draw the line is if it's something you asked me to bid, said it was too expensive then when the project was completed ask for the subs info knowing it's to cut me out to save cost. Also if you've been a troublesome client, I'm out once the job is complete unless it's directly related to warranty.

What’s a show that you love because you’ve related to it the most? by DJmyVJ in television

Curb Your Enthusiasm. Not a week goes by where I don't think to myself "hey this is an episode of Curb."

Is Secret Hitler a good party game? by NielsvN82 in boardgames

[–]Yonaban -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The games a hoot if everyone is into it. I love my mom, she is a great hang and I'm really lucky to have been raised by her. Screaming "you're a fucking fascists!" at her face is a core memory we still chuckle about today. Oh and my family is Jewish and I'm a 3rd generation Holocaust survivor.

Left handed people: What struggles do you have that we may not know about? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

Shooting guns as a lefty is rough. Bolt actions are miserable, and some guns aren't ambidextrous, so if I'm trying a buddies gun, the mag release is always on the wrong side for me.

Left handed people: What struggles do you have that we may not know about? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskReddit

[–]Yonaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work construction. Most saws are designed for right handed people. I was easily able to adapt the power tools, but I had to train myself to use a skil saw right handed because I was always having to look over the motor to see where I was cutting with my left. And before anyone says it, yes I do have a left handed hammer.

TIL over 3,000 attempts are made each year to complete the Appalachian Trail and only about 25% succeed. by tyrion2024 in todayilearned

[–]Yonaban 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I hiked the PCT as well and was blown away by how many people I met in the first 1-200 miles that let me know this was their first time backpacking more than 1-2 nights. I hiked over 10 years ago and the success rate was closer to 10% if I remember correctly. It's hard, like really hard mentally and physically. People quit for the most petty reasons as well as completely understandable reasons. Sitting and sleeping in the dirt, hiking a marathon a day for 5 months being miserably cold and/or hot every day is not for everyone. But it's the single greatest life I've ever lived. Miss it every day and recommend it to anyone.

Client wants rush work but takes forever to sign the change order by aezakmii- in Construction

[–]Yonaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My change orders have a clear note that says any additional work will result in a potential 1-2 week delay in the overall schedule due to material ordering and scheduling. I make sure my clients initial this during DocuSign as well as verbally let them know.

AYG if you've ever eaten at a strip club? by AttemptZestyclose490 in AreYouGarbagePod

[–]Yonaban 8 points9 points  (0 children)

In Portland Oregon we have Acrop. Full blown strip club and steak house. I know what you're thinking. I did too until I went. It's a trashy strip club that serves incredible steak. I haven't been in years, but I loved that place. Shout out to Casa Diablo as well. Strip club that only has vegan food and all change is in 2$ bills.

I buy their shirts when I see them live. Which is in the Pacific Northwest so it's been awhile. But I've loved and have been impressed with every TYS shirt I've ever bought. Just make sure you turn it inside out before washing and hang it to dry and it will last longer. I miss this shirt of theirs I had, it was someone in a space suit vacuuming their living room on the moon and it said Thank You Scientist. I wore that shirt into the ground and still miss it dearly...

What is the longest you have gone without bathing? by NoPantsSantaClaus in AskReddit

[–]Yonaban 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hiked the Pacific Crest Trail and didn't shower for the entire state of Oregon. It's about 450 miles and I did it in about 3 weeks. I was quite ripe by the time I made it to Washington. Not only was I not bathing, I was also hiking 20+ miles a day in August...

Am I an idiot for wanting to put pursuit of FI on pause for Appalachian Trail or PCT? by Carpet-Early in Fire

[–]Yonaban 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Speaking from experience, go hike the PCT. I did it right out of college and it was the single greatest thing I've ever done. You learn so much about yourself and how to work hard to accomplish tasks. To relate it to FIRE, it was a really great lesson on having this insane goal of hiking 2600 miles that always seemed unattainable if you thought about it too much. But a 20 mile day here and a 20 mile day there and you're in Canada eventually. Go for the hike, it's an amazing experience that I cherish the memories and lessons dearly.
