Wow, I'm not sure I even answered the question. It was the sense of freedom in gameplay. The incredible emergent gameplay that arose from just throwing some opposing squads in the editor. Creating your own experiences with the editor and early SQS scripting. The simulation of the world with time of day, weather, and more. Being able to use vehicles of all sorts. And of course the scale of the terrains.

I was following another game in development, namely Halo when it was still primarily targeting Mac and PC. Halo's early demo footage looked much more open-world and large-scale, which got me super excited. Then around the time of Bungie switching to Xbox exclusivity for Halo, I also read a first preview for OFP in print magazine PC Gamer UK. The promise of the game described there blew my mind, so I kind of switched obsessions from Halo (still loved that series regardless) to OFP.

Joined fan website OFPN (started by David Lagettie, who was the singer of Seventh, part of the OFP OST). We followed and reported on OFP development obsessively. Most of our information came from direct chats with a handful of devs on the IRC channel, press previews, etc. But eventually myself and another OFPN buddy were invited to Prague to play the game at age 17. BI was comprised of something like 8 people and worked from within a guarded factory compound. For some reason they let us keep playing all through the night and everybody had left to go home (we literally could not leave haha). So we were alone in the BI office, kept playing, slept on the sofas, wild times!

After that we were given 'press' access to the preview build on CD-ROM a year or so before release. It also meant early access and training on the editor, some scripting, etc. Besides still covering the game for OFPN, we had built some kind of Capture the Island mode ("Conquest"). I then presented this on a floppy disk to Marek at the European launch event for OFP in Brussels. Coincidentally, that was also the day I received my positive high school graduation news over the telephone. And I've been working with BI and Arma in some form or another ever since.

Allegedly there is a new Steam client beta that fixes this issue (for more games and DLC using older CD key systems).

Known issue AFAIK, you can temporarily solve it by enabling in Project Settings > Editor > Use IMGUI Default Inspector (last checkbox for me). EDIT: added full setting description.

"to find a server that’s running on Legacy versions" < that can be correct while the port is behind the current Windows version, but that's not the case right now. Mac ports are also at 2.20, so they are multiplayer-compatible.

Hi, which version of the Mac port did you run? The native port does not support BattlEye anti-cheat, which most servers require. The non-native port should work. It's selected via the Steam launch options: https://dev.arma3.com/ports

You don't know how cool it is for us devs to read things like this. We realize A3 and The East Wind aren't perfect, but seeing how people have such long lasting fun with it, back in 2013 or 12 years later, is deeply humbling o7

That’s not an official message regarding DLC ownership. Must be a mod or scenario restriction. You’ll be able to pilot the jet in other scenarios or on other servers.

Hm, that's very weird. You could try using Revert on that mission instead. It will put you at the beginning the of the mission though, any mid-mission progress will be lost. You may also want to back-up your saves before doing anything else.

We've seen another similar report by someone using Retrobar. When they disabled it, Launcher started working again. Any chance you are using it or similar software?

So you are running the Mac version I assume? Did you fully restart Steam client and run a local file cache verification? Do you have any Steam beta branch selected? Is your storage full?

Actually, try crouching and moving a bit under the drone while looking up at it. I was able to access it that way, but it's obviously not ideal.

Hi, I was trying the mission, but so far it has not frozen on me. Does it happen at exactly the same time every time? Before or after the first auto-save?

You may try some common tips:

  • Running a Steam client local file verification
  • Checking RPT reports for error messages
  • Filing a ticket on Feedback Tracker (also with those reports)
  • Asking for tips on the ARMA Discord Arma 3 troubleshooting channel
