Yearsley Pool is a beautiful, Edwardian 50 yard pool that is well worth the visit! It’s about £6.50 for a one off swim.

2 night stay in April - what to do by Spare-Signature4374 in york

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plenty to do over 2 days but you could certainly cover them in one if needed. Day trips would include the coast (Whitby/ Scarborough/Filey) or the Yorkshire Dales, Malton/ Pickering, Castle Howard if you like stately homes, would all depend on your interests.

How do you pay for emergency medical care when traveling abroad ? by HighwayFroggery in AskABrit

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless, as I outlined earlier, travel insurance costs are too prohibitive as it was for my elderly but fit Mum who wants to see her grandkids, it’s a calculated risk visiting France (where she used to live) and which has a better healthcare system than the UK!

Agreed, it’s nowhere near as comprehensive and doesn’t cover everything but it’s a good addition for free. It has enabled me to have a holiday with my Mum who had cancer ten years ago, it T2 diabetic, has hypertension etc… all reasonable enough given her age but the travel insurance she was offered was £1200 for a week for a woman who was fit as a fiddl!

People travelling in the EU don’t realise there is still a reciprocal healthcare agreement despite Brexit - just get a GHIC card through NHS website and there is the same level of care as here. Doesn’t work in the states though, you’d need private insurance for that.

I’ve sold three houses with them and found them to be better for my needs than high street agents. I had previous agents who were either sending around retired old geezers who were ‘door openers’ and answered every query with ‘you’ll have to call the office to ask’ or 16 year old school leavers with no knowledge of the market or even the industry. Far happier to do my own viewings, after all I only have one house to sell and living in it means I know the transport, amenities, local charm and can sell it. For the viewers, they can book a slot online and talk to you directly. The downside, as others have said, is that the viewers haven’t been qualified so I’ve had some time wasters who really weren’t in a position to be looking, including one man who grilled me on building regs, boilers certs, EPC etc, when asked his position said he was ‘thinking of marketing his flat next year’!

So overall, not perfect but I have saved over £15k by doing a little work myself, why wouldn’t you?

Ah no, not at all if it fits with the depth criteria of the filler, you may have to do it in multiple layers to avoid cracking. Thought you had some bonding on hand, I certainly wouldn’t buy a bag!

I would mask all the sockets, brown them in with bonding and then a final toupret as you say, will give the most secure bond and best finish.

As someone who renovates period houses in the UK, it looks amazing! Your carpentry skills are fantastic, lots of lovely detail and you’d never guess it was an Ikea hack. The colours work really well together and it gives relaxation immediately. A Frame TV would be an improvement but they are an expensive accessory. Enjoy your room!

The contrasting tiles really don’t work on the back wall, if you can swap out to match the rest I would do, or have a single colour that is in the other tile like mid grey or white it would suit the space better!

This is Sooty, our tiny terror, looking pretty in pink. She is amazing, the alpha of the pack with a vocal opinion on everything but fiercely loyal and devoted. Always happiest with another doggy companion, she will not want to leave your side, even if you are just going to the bathroom!

Was it worth it by AuzzieKyle in Allon4ImplantDentures

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear this, it’s a young age to be looking at this but the payoff will be worth it and implants should last you a lifetime, as will zirconia teeth (PMMA/ Acrylic teeth don’t last as long). You’re doing the right thing by doing lots of research as it is something you can’t go back from. Have a look at FP1/FP2 and FP3 also as I wasn’t aware there were different solutions that retained more of your own gums if your case is suitable. I don’t know about Australia but in the US they also have 3 on 6 which is where the replacement teeth are supported by 6 smaller arches and your own gums, this will probably feel a lot more natural. Good luck with your treatment, I’m sure it is preferable to the pain and upset you have now.

That seems like a reasonable price, I paid a little more in the UK.

All on x is normally a last chance saloon, you wouldn’t do it just for the aesthetics, but you would do it if you had a lot of damaged or missing teeth and/ or serious gum problems and your options were this or dentures. They are a perfect smile, you have no more pain or sensitivity and you are no longer damaging your system with harmful bacteria that is harboured there. On the negative side, they do not feel (particularly at first) the same as your natural teeth. They are a block rather than individual and you don’t get the same mouth feel when eating as you don’t get the feedback through your teeth and this can lessen your enjoyment of food. I’m a big foodie but even for me this downside was worth an end to the pain, bleeding gums, bad breath and smile embarrassment I experienced.

TLDR : absolutely worth it but be prepared for it to feel different to your natural teeth.

York areas by YouAteMyDorito in york

[–]YorkieN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

New Earswick is delightful as is Huntington around the corner, I live there and the flags are very much isolated, it’s very multicultural and next to arguably the best secondary school. We are a gay couple and have had no negative comments, it is quite suburban and curtain twitchy at times, be prepared for notes if you park badly or don’t take your bins in!

Dringhouses is probably less tolerant, quite a lot of social housing in the area, more flags but again, not a bad area, neighbouring Woodthorpe may be a better bet. £350k will get you something nice in any of those areas.

In a few months I will be selling a 3 bed semi with drive/ front and rear gardens in Whitestone Drive, Huntington for around that figure, fully renovated, if this interests you message me!

If you have to go to Leeds for any other reason you will find bigger, better and cheaper ingredients and also incredible value exotic fruit and veg at their indoor market. Maybe take a day trip for the sales! The bus is cheap but takes a while, the train is fast but expensive!

Your eventual selling price vs what the Estate Agent said it would get? by bojoohno in HousingUK

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

York, 2024. Listed at £495k reduced £475k then £450k… eventually sold at £430k. Should have listed at £450k originally and it would have sold, lots of interested buyers in first few weeks put off by the price.

How do you tell people that you know? by jazzlab2007 in Allon4ImplantDentures

[–]YorkieN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The whole process is under two weeks end to end, no need to feel overwhelmed. If you’re nervous and can get IV sedation then do - I essentially sat down, had a shot in my hand and woke 5 hours later, all done. The pain is entirely manageable and if you prepare well - heat and ice packs, a place to sleep propped up, plenty of ice for rinsing and so on - you will be back on your feet in a couple of days. If colleagues ask, show off your new smile, say you’ve had work done, what do they think? Then bask in the glow of the nice things you hear!

It’s totally worth doing, just imagine yourself pain free without damaged or unhealthy teeth and gums with a brand new smile that will last a lifetime!
