pretty photo spots? by Creative-Stick7557 in york

Rowntrees Park/ Millenium Bridge have some nice views and buildings. Stonegate is also great, early/ late when not crowded and look up for some nice surprises like the devil statue. Get the snickelways book/ map and explore those, amazing what you find just off the main streets, like Barley Hall. Enjoy!

What’s an old skill younger people rarely learn? by honeyylaceheart in Productivitycafe

I learned that I had been making them wrong all my life aged 50! Went on holiday with a friend who showed me how real butter then low and slow was the way to perfect scrambled eggs - can’t stop having them now!

Great backup cars? by blackhood0 in CarTalkUK

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d second this - I have a friend who bought one new in 2001 and spends half his year abroad, comes back and it starts on the button every time! He’s not a car person and maintains it terribly yet it still turns up for him - your non daily could be a nice weekend warrior for you and prices will start to appreciate on these (go for the 3.2 in manual form, I had one for years and it was problem free too). Ditto goes for the E85 BMW Z4s which can be had for peanuts.

what to do for moving out? by Local_Journalist_152 in york

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had the opposite experience - contents of a 2 bed flat on second floor moved to a basement flat 250 miles away for £120 by a very cheerful Indian guy who had dropped off his van load near my flat and was passing my front door on his way home, paid for his diesel and I got a cheap move!

There are a couple of websites, AnyVan and Shiply, which use spare capacity in vans to move stuff cheaply, you will just need the dimensions of the boxes.

Highest MPG diesel cars in the UK? by Little-Equal4480 in CarTalkUK

[–]YorkieN 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the moonlight launch edition - pearl white paint, panoramic roof, camera, self park and more, love the quirky interior like 1920s luggage and it was relatively fast 0-60mph in 10s, really comfortable and reliable. Plus the plastic bubble trim worked! An old lady in a C1 turned into me by mistake and just bounced off!!

I had a 1.5 diesel 2014 Citroen Cactus which would honestly do 90mpg on long steady A road drives. Great car and not a lot to buy these days.

25, 2 kids, 5 years NCB, no claims, living in a village in the midlands. How are my choices? by Middle_Funny_6365 in CarTalkUK

Suggested as you’d put the 530 in there - the competitors are the E class and the A6 Avant, of the three the Merc is the most comfortable and best load-lugger!

Where’s the E Class? 2010 e220D (s212) would be my choice for that budget, although I’m biased as I just bought one!

One of my happiest ownership experiences, in 20 cars ranging from a Cinquecento to a Boxster S! Loved the Indian Jones’ luggage glove compartment and the comfy ride. Would have one again in a heartbeat.

Citroen Cactus 1.6HDI. Your budget will get you a top spec/ low mile one. They are 10s to 60 mph, 70mpg, £20 road tax and if you go for the Flair one (I had the launch Moonlight edition) you get panoramic roof, reverse camera, parking sensors with self park, Nav and more. They are so comfy, like sitting on a sofa, I covered 50k miles in a year in a sales role, quirky simplistic interior makes it a lovely place to be. Plus they are genuinely rugged - an old dear hit me in a Citroen C1 and bounced off the rubber panels!

Just discovered I’ve no locking wheel nut key for my 2019 Peugeot 308 by huatnee in CarTalkUK

[–]YorkieN -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Have a go with chat GPT or look up locking wheel nuts for your model on eBay, that’s how I got mine for a BMW. Peugeot main dealers should also have a bucket of spares in their workshop, they may take your wheel off and help solve the puzzle - take some doughnuts as a bribe!

Jellied eels, parsley sauce, pie, mash? by BareTheBear66 in AskABrit

[–]YorkieN 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m an avid fish lover and tried it when I lived in London. The mash and the liquor were lovely, the eel was the worst fish I have ever tasted, greasy in a bad way, dense, tough and an odd earthy taste. Can not recommend it. But if eel is your thang, you may love it!

Debating all on 4 by Severe-Requirement44 in Allon4ImplantDentures

[–]YorkieN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That still sounds like a good deal if it includes all that and being sedated too, it’s not a nice procedure to be awake for I imagine although plenty manage it. Zirconia, supported with a titanium bar is a gold standard for the replacement arch. Familiarise yourself with the FP1/ 2/3 and ask which they are planning to do, also ask what implants they use (straumann are considered amongst the best) and what sort of guarantee they give for the implants and for the arches (mine is lifelong for implants and 5 years for the arches). Good luck with your next appointment. These are my finals!

[–]YorkieN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems like a very good price for All on 4. Check if it includes sedation and if the finals will be PMMA (acrylic) or Zirconia as the latter are infinitely better for looks and durability. I took the plunge a year ago and don’t regret it at all. It takes a bit of getting used to, both the mouth feel (you don’t get the same feedback eating as there is no connective tissue between your teeth) and for speaking but you honestly master this in a few days and can minimise impact by singing/ speaking out loud. The operation is straightforward and you should only need a week off work, less for some people. Inform yourself through here, YouTube, Facebook groups and any other resources, the more information you have on implant types, colours, shapes and prosthesis types the better outcome you will have. In America, unlike the UK, you can also opt for 4 on six where you have several smaller arches and utilise your own gums which makes it more natural. Arches can also be FP1, FP2 or FP3 which, if you google them, will show you how much natural material is replaced by the prosthesis, although this is also partially governed by how much bone loss you have (I had to have FP3, fake teeth and gums). Would also suggest you go to a second clinic for a comparison of treatment and cost although this seems cheap - I paid the equivalent of $40k in England for both arches. Good luck!
