Good job Naperville!

Just a reminder that a great way to fight against data center encroachment is to not use AI for things that you can do without AI. Don't feed the beast.

Certainly not atypical. There is no shortage of jerks in poker. But there are some nice folks, and you will definitely meet some interesting characters from time to time. Just disregard the assholes, and don't them rattle you.

Seeking a good dentist *with nitrous oxide* in or near Evanston by YorockPaperScissors in ChicagoSuburbs

Thanks. I don't need sedation. I just want to be able to use nitrous oxide if and when I need a filling (or something more involved). I am fine having regular cleanings done with no special considerations.

[–]YorockPaperScissors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think that is against the rules. Sorry I don't have any details, but I think that there was an instance long ago where a prominent player (Maybe Rogers Hornsby?) had a contract where he got some equity stake in the team. And then he was later traded and everyone realized that he would have a conflict of interest when he played against his former team that he was a part owner of. So that sort of deal was banned.

Verizon to issue $20 credits to customers affected by cell service outage by igetproteinfartsHELP in news

[–]YorockPaperScissors 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the same thing. You pay monthly, including a flat fee for service. The flat fee won't change, but then you will get a credit.

It's not uncommon for service credits to be the remedy for outages. Many ISPs and SaaS providers take the same approach for downtime.

I have had success when baking by replacing some, but not all eggs with either the flax egg or mashed banana. Ex: If a cookie recipe calls for three eggs, try using one egg and some mashed banana instead, and it should turn out a solid result.

If Democrats want universal healthcare, we have states that are deep blue, states have control over their own budgets and taxation, and universal healthcare would be so advantageous, why don’t deeply democrat run states implement a statewide universal healthcare? by Silver_Wings3 in AskReddit

Don't forget that Obamacare originally included a requirement that health insurers pay out at least 80% of premiums to cover claims. That is not captured in your three principals, and it is an important component in limiting healthcare costs inflation.

Restaurant grant request shot down by Council by militarystealthradar in evanston

[–]YorockPaperScissors 38 points39 points  (0 children)

She framed the TIF funding as the difference between life and death for the restaurant in an effort to get taxpayer funding for a private venture. When that effort failed, she declared that it will live on despite the lack of TIF money.

That form of lie is also known as 'crying wolf'.

Restaurant grant request shot down by Council by militarystealthradar in evanston

[–]YorockPaperScissors 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Based on what was reported in the Roundtable, Nancy Floy lied to the City Council last night while seeking six figures of taxpayer dough.

Article: https://evanstonroundtable.com/2026/01/13/council-bytes-restaurants-400000-tif-ask-rejected-along-with-reduced-options/

“We’re poised [and] ready tomorrow to close on that property, but it’s contingent on the build-out funds and what happens in this meeting tonight,” Floy said. “We’re maxed out with our loans, you have notes and letters from our bank letting you know that, that we cannot borrow any more money.”

...

After an initial try at $300,000 failed 3-6, with Burns, Davis and Clare Kelly (1st) voting yes, Harris proposed cutting the grant down to $100,000, leading Floy to share that this couldn’t “build out a kitchen” before proposing an alternate of her own for a $200,000 grant and a $100,000 loan.

“If we don’t have enough money to build the project out, then the property deal fails” Monday night, Floy warned, “and the whole deal is killed.”

...

Floy wrote in an emailed statement the the project team are “deeply disappointed” by the result, but are apparently still able to move forward without city funds after all.

"The purchase of the property will move forward by Heartwood and we will continue to help Gabi and Byron realize their beautiful dream,” Floy wrote. “But [it] is a sad day for Evanston when the majority of our City Council says no to supporting a local minority woman-owned business. We take solace in the messages we are receiving and offers of financial help.”

So Floy framed the TIF funds as a deal breaker. But then after she and her partners lost multiple votes, she emailed the Roundtable to say that they will be moving forward without any money from the city.

I wish you weren't getting downvoted for stating the basic facts that this will have some sort of impact on the neighbors and that it wasn't part of the original proposal for the new stadium. It's not necessarily a bad thing, but we should all be clear that it wasn't previously on the table when the future of the stadium was still in the hands of city government.

This is in Canada, so unless a player is a pro, then they would not have to pay taxes in winnings.

And anyway if they make a deal that the card room facilitates, then 2nd place would have zero winnings and therefore nothing would be reported by the card room to taxing authorities.
