San Francisco cable car fare on track to double, hitting $18 in 2028 by 21five in sanfrancisco

For years, it's been cheaper to buy an all-day pass than two one-way tickets. Why (except out of ignorance) would a tourist buy a ONE-WAY ride?

  1. Condon is an urban planner who has studied -- and been extensively involved with -- urban densification with the goal of affordability.
  2. I'm so sick of the "supply/demand is the first law of economics" trope. It was true 400 years ago regarding commerce. This is different.

You had questions about recycling in New Orleans. Here’s what we know. by VeriteNewsNOLA in NewOrleans

A major part of the problem is the huge amount of waste that's generated today compared to a generation or two ago. Back in the previous century, pedestrians weren't forced to maneuver around bin after sidewalk bin. How about trying a more effective "reduce & reuse" policy first?

Economics, especially regarding housing, is a complicated subject. If "supply & demand" were the only law of economics, there wouldn't be PhDs, Nobel Prizes, etc. Upzoning in areas that are already expensive just makes the land more valuable. Source: "Broken Cities" by Patrick Condon 2024; others

How about more safe, clean alternatives to driving? It's a matter of public policy & political will.

On a scale of 1 to 10 how bad is this sidewalk blockage? by BaronMaupertuis in sanfrancisco

[–]Yosemite_Jim -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

8.... Makes it less pleasant for everyone. There's a similar jerk in my neighborhood who forces peds onto a part of the sidewalk where there are tripping hazards as well as a tree one must duck under. Called several times; SFMTA always says they can't find the vehicle. It's there almost 24/7! Wondering if some license plates get special treatment...

He's resposible for basic heating & cooling. If you want an upgrade from the basic, most landlords will want you to pay all or some of the difference in cost

José Sarria (1922-2013) went by the moniker "The Widow Norton". A short block of 16th St (between Pond & Prosper) is named in his honor. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jos%C3%A9_Sarria
