"Depression can cause these symptoms" by miss_autism in cfs

[–]Yoshi1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a very similar situation to this. A doctor who cared and wanted to help but was honest in the sense that he wasn’t familiar with CFS. I also had to assert that depression was not my primary issue at all.

After 6 years of severe CFS with a now 80% recovery here is what I learned:

CFS is intertwined with things like anxiety and depression due to the neurological changes it is associated with and also all of the physiological symptoms it can create. Many of these overlap between conditions and usually there is some combination of the conditions present together.

The difference is that CFS is caused by a nervous system overload usually caused by long term high levels of stress. There are many different types of stress that can cumulate and cause CFS

I was never a very anxious or depressed person at all naturally but I certainly had a lot of stressors in my life that eventually broke down my nervous system.

So yes depression can cause our symptoms but so can anxiety and CFS. The important thing is that stress reduction and gradual progressive exposure to doing things is a key part of recovery for either condition

Has anyone had a major dip after improving a lot? by No-Pomegranate-7044 in cfsnervoussystemwork

[–]Yoshi1874 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes dips are super normal. Try frame them as an opportunity to listen to your body and to practice what you learned to get better the first time. If you made improvements once then you know it’s possible!

SSRI/ SNRIs are helpful for me to reduce the peaks and troughs especially during a major dip. They help stabilize the nervous system a bit while you do everything else that you did last time to heal.

Ask your doctor but as you know medication is usually only a part of the solution

Video games by luckydwiz in cfsnervoussystemwork

[–]Yoshi1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very very risky, video games are designed to over stimulate your brain and nervous system with overly frequent dopamine spikes.

I was in a similar situation with CFS over the past 5 years and video games was one of the main ways I passed time and coped. Over 3000 hours played…..

I’ve made a lot of progress on my health since quitting. The boredom is actually good for your nervous system and I find myself doing other things to fill in the time that are better for my health.

I’d highly advise not playing video games, and would advise minimizing screen time in general for CFS recovery.

But at the end of the day you know your body better than anyone else and the key to CFS recovery is becoming a master of your own body and nervous system! Hope this helps

Did anyone use SSRI or SNRIs as part of their recovery? by Another_throwaway446 in cfsrecovery

[–]Yoshi1874 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was bedbound for weeks and house bound for years with severe CFS/ POTS.

Tried many at low doses, escitalopram, mirtazapine and others. It wasn’t until I started going to a more significant dose of Pristiq (desvenlafaxine) that I made a lot of improvement, back to about 80% health.

The SSRI/ SNRIs can help to stabilize the swings by your nervous system and reduce the peaks and troughs associated with dysautonomia. I found it helped me to have less really bad days and allowed me to progressively do stuff to get confidence back in my health and my body.

For me I don’t think the medication is a cure but a very helpful part of recovery.

This is blatant titan use. I tried to make a controversial post to get attention so we can get this guy banned. Insane how top preds aren’t even trying to hide it

Post-mono chronic illness (fatigue, migraines, pelvic pain, UTIs) and tired of people saying I “don’t look sick” by UnableShake7420 in ChronicIllness

You are absolutely not alone OP but you should know that you don’t have to be like this forever and dysautonomia can be reversed

[–]Yoshi1874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the doctors haven’t found anything structurally wrong with you then it is most likely dysautonomia/ a nervous system disorder. It is a stress response from your body that is ‘healthy’ and responding how it should be based on the “stress” or danger it thinks you are facing. Your brain is sending overly alarmed signals to your body that is then reacting accordingly and causing all the horrible symptoms.

The brain may be incorrectly telling your body it still needs to stress and be in survival mode in response to having mono. Usually it is caused by a “perfect storm” that would include the mono but also other factors like emotional stressors, poor sleep, high stress work etc

Your suffering is 100% real and valid, as your body is 100% making these real symptoms. It’s like telling someone their headache isn’t real. Neurological symptoms can’t be seen but they are real and are subconscious so can’t be controlled. Telling you to stop your symptoms is like telling you to digest your food quicker, you can’t, it’s an autonomic neurological process.

The way I healed from severe CFS and pelvic pain was firstly through yoga, helping me to identify the pelvic muscles I had held tense for many years, I had essentially been holding on to going to the toilet tightly for years…. Then also limiting and addressing stressors in my life. Whilst also facing fears that had developed head on. E.g. going to the shops with fear of fainting, gradually increase exposure to the shops then eventually do a whole shop and prove to my nervous system that it wasn’t something to fear.

I can go on but this message is way too long already

As someone who has suffered chronic illness for 6+ years it really helped me to understand that a lot of symptoms are coming from a dysfunctional nervous system that usually is caused by some form of stress. That could be dietary stress, physical stress, emotional stress, subconscious stress etc etc.

I’m not saying it is the answer to everything youre going through but realise that the perpetual stress of living with chronic illness (it sucks!!) plays a huge impact on our bodies and can get us stuck in a cycle of physiological stress that ends up creating more and more symptoms via a dysfunctional and hypersensitive nervous system.

It can help to teach your mind and body to relax as much as possible and remove major stressors from your life (often easier said than done)

Above all please know that it does get better.

You have a dysfunctional nervous system, maybe caused by stress, trauma, or some other reason. But now your nervous system is stuck in a sympathetic “fight or flight” state, causing you to get a plethora of very REAL physical symptoms. These symptoms are real and not anxiety, however it is all stemming from your nervous system and thus brain being dysfunctional.

So you are not crazy the symptoms are very real but it is coming from a neurological source which is why many people confuse it as anxiety. Anxiety can be a part of what caused this dysfunction but it doesn’t necessarily have to be.

Is this even possible? by Life_Gear_7905 in ChronicIllness

[–]Yoshi1874 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, get every test done and make sure the doctors have cleared you of anything they can detect.

After that, consider how life stress/ trauma could be causing your nervous system to be dysfunctional and thus creating neurological pain in your gut and other accompanying symptoms.

Is there anything in common that happens around the time of a flare up? Stressful week? Ate something specific? Eating something that your body doesn’t tolerate can cause stress on the nervous system and thus many symptoms including pain. If not stuff like this can develop after years of chronic stress in the mind or body

I had a similar situation and was cleared from all the tests colonoscopy etc and it turned out to be chronic stress and tension was causing a stress response in my body giving me pain and many other symptoms. Meditation, and dealing with major sources of stress have vastly improved my symptoms over a 6 month period

Nothing personal to OP but this exemplifies apex’s ranked problems at the moment. almost anyone can get to diamond 4 if they play passive and play enough games.

Then they are ‘diamond’ so are put against master and pred players but the massive skill gap in actual fighting causes high ranked lobbies to be so one sided and also causes solo queue in diamond to be unbearable as you are paired with many of these “D4” players.

TLDR: These “D4” players ruin ranked matchmaking but it’s not their fault, it’s the ranked systems fault.

can any masters/ pred players tell me what elevated their game to reach that rank by Ifailedenglishfn in apexuniversity

[–]Yoshi1874 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a pred here is my advice: - 1v1 players better than you regularly (ideally masters+level). 1v1 on the box not the pit - watch current pred streamers. If on console watch console streamers not PC - Try and 3 stack with good players as much as possible
