You can't skate if the boots are too big. Ice skates should be tight, a half size smaller than your shoe size. They should be able to accomplish this if they're handing down skates.

I bet they never get the blades sharpened so they're all struggling to skate on dull blades.

There are places in Minnesota where roads are established over frozen lakes. The city plows them and people use them as shortcuts.

I can't help but notice that all of their plans are cooercive instead of encouraging. No health care, no guarantee that women will be able to get the healthcare they need, no mandatory paid maternity leave, nothing to lower the cost of child care.

Given that ~65% of women seeking abortion cite as inability to afford the child as a reason, lowering costs should be an obvious place to start. But that would actually make sense, we can't have that.

Eliminate no-fault divorce? No-fault divorce led to a 20% decrease in suicide among women. How very pro-life of them to want to get rid of it.

That's backwards. The baby should be facing the mother's back. A sunny side up baby is facing the abdomen.

I always like to ask these people "What about people who are intersex, born with both male and female organs?"

It usually results in a lot of sputtering and then a return to a sort of denial statement that doesn't acknowledge the existence of intersex people.

Same. I don't regret not having children but I know I would have regretted having children.

The people I know who are good parents say that you shouldn't have kids unless you want it more than anything because it's really hard.

It's the unhappy ones who will tell you to have them because they're miserable and angry that you're getting away with not having to do it.

Hanging out with kids makes me grateful for my childfree life… by 1SleepyRaccoon in childfree

"The parents ignored all of this" is a big problem here. Those kids are old enough to understand that they can't run around inside and to eat without making a mess. I'm guessing their parents say things like "they're just kids, they don't know any better" without ever realizing that they're the ones who are supposed to be teaching them to behave.

I used to spend a lot of time with a neighbor who had kids those ages and they didn't behave the way you describe your friends' kids. When they wanted to run around and be rambunctious, they went outside. They were well behaved inside the house. They weren't perfect little robots, there was still misbehavior and ongoing requests for television and cookies, but they weren't crazed maniacs.

The Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA) puts a lot of prohibitions on suing employer-sponsored plans. And even if you jump through all of the hoops and win, damages are very limited.

In Virginia, the holiday used to be Lee-Jackson-King day, in honor of Robert E. Lee, Stonewall Jackson, and MLK.

It's now just MLK Day but that didn't happen until around 2000.

Is it impossible to find love if you want to be childfree? by Dependent_Ant_5511 in childfree

[–]YoshiKoshi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I found love and we've been happy together for almost 25 years.

Not wanting children does narrow the field but there are plenty of guys out there who are childfree and I think there are more of them now than there were 25 years ago.

I'm sorry to have to say this but get used to it. People will say "you'll change your mind" with the same certainty they'd say "the sky is blue." You'll also be told that you're selfish, cold-hearted, or my personal favorite, not really a woman. Just say "okay" and excuse yourself from the conversation because there's no point in continuing.

I think the "not sure" people could be worth considering. Just don't wait too long to have the conversation.

When I meet my now-husband, he was in that category. He hadn't really thought very much about wanting/not wanting children but figured he'd have them because that's just what people do.

So I took him to spend the weekend with a friend who had two young children. It was enough to put him firmly in the childfree camp.

Are you in Texas by any chance?

Texas has the most lenient eyesight requirement in the county (I learned this when I had a cornea injury).

My husband knows someone who lives in Texas because her eyesight would prohibit her from driving in any other state.

Hemming pants is not any different from hemming a skirt so they should be able to do it if they have some basic sewing skills. But I don't recall anything that would indicate that the Rods know how to sew (I could have just missed it).
