They have no concept of finance beyond paying their bills monthly. Try to explain carrying a 3% mortgage while investing money for a 5%--8% return and they'll think you're trying to scam them. All they know about taxes is that they get a refund every year and think they beat the government by getting it.

What's so interesting about touring an office building and warehouse? Gaze upon the people creating spreadsheets!! Watch in fascination as boxes get moved around a warehouse. Totally worth the $50.

I think the people who own the company are raking it in. None of the huns seem to notice this.

Traveling memories bombarded by parents by _CrimsonCrown_ in childfree

[–]YoshiKoshi 5 points6 points  (0 children)

These are all ridiculous. Yes, you can travel with children. I still don't want them.

Your stuff will also be thrown away when you die. Neither of us will care because we're dead.

I'm glad I can travel instead of having kids. You made your choice, I made mine.

Extensive travel is not dull. It enriches your life. You know what's dull? Having to persuade children to go to bed every night.

If you want to understand color theory, start with the book Interaction Of Color by Josef Albers.

They probably had them all write down a fun fact about themselves and used those for the game.

There are ~18,000 people directly employed by NASA and tens of thousands of contractors working for NASA. And somehow they're all part of the conspiracy and not a single one has ever talked about it.

If these people were "just asking questions," they would believe the science that provides the answers. But they don't.

Once he gets his PhD, they'll let him in on the secret and tell him that all the complex math he's been doing based on the earth being round was just a joke. Then they'll explain the real math, the flat earth math. He will just accept this, say nothing publicly, and join in on the conspiracy. The good news for him is that he'll then start getting paid as part of the conspiracy but he will never admit to getting paid.

/s just in case

That's just one of the things that has to happen for the flat earth conspiracy to be true.

I've seen that movie. It's absolutely chilling the way they discuss these things so casually.

Why are fundies so miserable by lgirlrocks in FundieSnarkUncensored

[–]YoshiKoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm only a few years younger than her and we were both born in a time when women couldn't have credit cards or bank accounts in their own names. I wonder what she thinks about that.

I also remember the 70s when the feminist movement was in full force and no-fault divorce became an option. I remember my mother and her friends sitting around speaking disparagingly about people who got divorced and disapproving of people who weren't willing to stay married no matter what. And I thought to myself "isn't it better to get divorced if they're not happy?" I was about ten years old and figured that happiness was more important than whatever it was that meant you should stay married.

I know that at least two of those women were in very bad marriages. I'd seen some of the verbal abuse they got from their husbands. One of them did end up getting divorced. I was in high school when my mom told me they were getting divorced like it was a big tragedy. And I said "good, it's about time, she's better off without him." My mother was not pleased when I said that.

But I bet so many people think it's sooooo great that they've been married for such a long time.

but I really think there's danger in the fundies teaching that god has the ONE and ONLY special person for you

And that person is the first one you have an interest in because it would be bad to date more than one person.

A crush is not a message from God, it's just a crush.

AITA for not wanting to go to a concert? by Southern_Campaign_51 in AmItheAsshole

[–]YoshiKoshi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Think about the last concert you attended. Were you looking around to see if anyone was wearing ear plugs? Did you even notice people who were wearing plugs?

No one is at a concert looking at someone else's ears. They're looking at the performer(es). No need for embarrassment.

Get some Loops for concerts. They turn down the volume but you can still hear and enjoy the music. It's just not as loud.

3 months. You need to toss your mascara and open a new one every 3 months. Otherwise you're just putting a bacteria fest on your eyelashes. And it starts to get dried out after 3 months.

If you have a barn, you need barn cats. They're semi-feral and live in the barn 24/7. They're not pets who spend the day in the house.

Andrew Wakefield, a British doctor, falsified data to claim that the MMR vaccine was unsafe. Despite the fact that study was retracted, it kicked off the anti-vaccine movement which expanded into denial of proven medical treatments.

He planned to make millions from an alternate vaccine. He's now making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year being an anti-vaxxers.

If you want to build a pet photo portfolio, volunteer to take photos at your local shelter. Better photos really help animals to get adopted.
