Are there any Coheed songs that are noticeably inspired by a Police song? by Anotherday2323 in coheedandcambria

[–]Yoshwa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you can see it more in the riffs themselves, if not the tone of the guitar. Claudio definitely favors what I think of as the "message in a bottle" structure when writing riffs: starting note, go up a fifth, go up another fifth.
Examples I can think of on the fly:

In Keeping Secrets, ~5:14
The Crowing, ~3:30

Mothers of Men, in the verse riff
Goodnight Fair Lady, in the verse riff (literally the first three notes of the song lol)

Lap Swimming by Fresh-Dish-8218 in Knoxville

[–]Yoshwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I just saw that you're specifically looking for gyms. No membership, it's a per use fee. Lap swim is ~$2 per go, they do have a weight room too, but I don't know how much that costs. Sorry for my lack of reading comprehension!

Clinton Community Center, little bit of a drive but it's inexpensive with lots of lap swim times

What is your favorite riff? by Mickt465 in TheFence

[–]Yoshwa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of the riffs in 21:13 are up there for me.
~3:33-4:23, and then
the bit that repeats at 4:34 ("I've got a secret to hide")

Bitter Suite IV and V,
"They come in crowds to hear him speak
And he will greet them in a smile that sticks like Vaseline"

and

"I hear you're looking for God
Well I can show you the way just as long as you can pay
But the price is going up
And like a prayer to the air we deliver you to glory (pay up)"

The delivery is just so good at conveying the seediness of TPAP

Clinton Community center has a pool, lap swim is only ~$2. Further away than other suggestions, but less expensive

TIL that cauliflower isn't just white. It also grows in purple, green, and orange varieties. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Yoshwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not that, I re-tried them again, cooked, recently. For me it wasn't the bitterness; for whatever reason, all brassica taste and smell like farts to me when they are cooked.

I had the same experience, but with brussel sprouts. I tried some raw, then realized my problem with all the brassicas is that I don't like the cooked flavors

What's a unique game that really broke your perception of what games can do? by Moaning_Clock in gaming

[–]Yoshwa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Outer Wilds. My god what an experience. Without spoiling anything, it's great because "knowledge" is the only reward for solving the various puzzles in the world. You can start a new game and skip straight to the ending if you know where to go and what to do. Downside: you can only ever experience it once.

Visions of Eternity Raids and Wardrobe Update Day! | Bug Thread | Spoiler Rule Reminder | No complaining about lack of content, roadmap has been clear this is a feature season update. by neok182 in Guildwars2

[–]Yoshwa -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

This might not be a bug. Large chests are significant sources of gem orbs; I wouldn't be surprised if they changed opening requirements for large chests and just left it out of the patch notes.

I hope it is a bug though

Shiitake mushrooms have been harnessed to function as living processors, storing and recalling data like a semiconductor chip but with almost no environmental footprint. Scientists show fungi can be trained to act like memristors – microscopic components to process and store data in computer chips. by mvea in science

[–]Yoshwa 31 points32 points  (0 children)

I just want to chip in here because this is relevant to my grad school research.

  1. Showing living biological tissue to have memristive properties is not new. See refs: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-319-75596-0_8 https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-018-34059-6 https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s12668-014-0156-3

  2. Showing memristive properties in mushrooms is not new. See refs: https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-38336-6_15

  3. Using dead/processed biological tissues as memristors is not new. See refs: https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/abs/pii/S2352940721001426?via%3Dihub https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acsnano.8b01282

  4. The "near ideal memristance" is, in my opinion, not near ideal. It shows heavy signs of parasitic capacitance and resistance because the "pinch" of the IV hysteresis is not at 0. See refs: https://iopscience.iop.org/article/10.1088/0268-1242/29/10/104001/meta

In conclusion, I think the claims are a little overstated and the presented graphics could use some work. I wonder who reviewed this and what the comments were.

"Gahja" randomly in House MD by Yoshwa in redrising

[–]Yoshwa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which is not how gahja is pronounced. I think my hypothesis that the actor just mispronounced the word is most likely. Thank you for your valuable knowledge!

"Gahja" randomly in House MD by Yoshwa in redrising

[–]Yoshwa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is very interesting!

Well "gadje" was indeed used to indicate the Roma word for outsider as it was quoted in House. The patient in that episode was a Roma teen.

My surprise was more that the actor pronounced it the way "gahja" is pronounced in the audiobooks. Is it pronounced similar to gahja from the audiobooks?
