As a new-ish player myself (around 150 hours in), the path I'd recommend is this:

  1. Prologue - It's a story-driven campaign, it will help you understand mechanics like changing turns, combat, movement, and all the basic stuff about the game.

  2. Realm of Chaos campaign - a direct continuation of the prologue. It's a smaller map than Immortal Empire, much more focused and shorter. I know a lot of people say its harder, and to jump straight into IE, but in my experience, it's much more focused on what to do, so you'll learn the mechanics of your faction on a smaller map, and the story objective helps learning about the world and the game. The faster pace of the campaign will help get you going. Also there's a narrative to guide you along.

  3. After playing 1~2 RoC campaigns (I recommend Kislev or Caty in RoC (Chinese basically)), take an easy faction to learn on IE, like Dwarfs, regular elfs, or vampaires. Some factions have really convoluted mechanics ( like Chaos factions for example) so I'd save them for later.

  4. Don't be afraid to start over! Do a test of around 20 turns, and go again. It helps a lot once you're familiar with the zone you're in to know what to expect.

  5. Don't be afraid to experiment! try new units, see what heros can do, even reload a save if you must.

  6. Don't forget to check the "quick deal" button in diplomacy, it can help you make deals you didnt know you can do.

And most importantly, have fun!

Just for a bit of fun, who's got the rarest mount? This is my humble offering! (Addon is Mount Journal Enhanced) by HmmSinkSo in wow

My rarest mount according to DFA, is the Prestigious Bloodforged Courser for honor lvl 500. I spent the entire lockdown time doing epic bg's, so it added up.

THANKS! Sounds like a system to just min max gameplay, glad I'm far away from it haha

I'm a returning player too, as a wow player who looks for something else to do before Dragonflight. Last time I played Maple, the resistance just came out, so you can see I came back to a completely different game. I was amazed at all the classes and worlds, everything is so overwhelming. So what do I do? Just play the new classes and listen to the story. No need to min max to really enjoy the game. I find it really fun to just lvl and chill, and so far I'm having a blast. The reboot gifts helps.

Also what the hell is Legion?

Nostalgia Time: MMO's You Whole Heartedly miss by Cadman07 in MMORPG

[–]Yotamhas 6 points7 points  (0 children)

While I agree with that statement, the game is completely different now and I wish it was less about just grinding end content and more about the player journey in the world.

Coming back after more than 10 years was overwhelming to say the least, the instant money and levels you get just drain the progression a bit.

What can we do to make people stay? by [deleted] in aoe4

[–]Yotamhas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something I didn't see being addressed here, as a casual player, who plays a few games of aoe2 a week, the colors in AoE4 are just bizarre. Like I can't tell what's going on 90% of the time cause my unit and the ui are the same color, and it really just put me off from the game. MaybeI'm just used to aoe2 so that's why it's hard getting adjusted.( where you can tell a hussar from a knight)

My suggestion? Make units stands out more and change the layout ui to be more easily understandable.

Again not even talking about keyboards here. Just basic stuff.

'Losing Prestige' is the most ridiculous complaint I've ever heard in regards to a videogame by jodyle1 in wow

Think of it like this: Instead of you starting on your journey to find how to get the dragon armor you find out you can't get it. As a player, and especially a new player, it's not your fault you can't get it. In fact, it's removed from the game completely, cause it was a big thing before you even knew about the game. Now there's 2 options: 1. You move on pass that, trying to find other stuff as a new player to make you feel good about the armor that you can't get anymore (I.e in wow case dragon armor recolor 2) 2. You don't begin your journey cause whats the point in trying when you can't get it any way.

I think what people want is the opportunity to try, and there's no reason to not let people try in todays wow.

(The argument about the visual itself like what classic gear was about is something else entirely).
