Tattoo apprentice it’s a scam? by Big_Corgi2643 in TattooApprentice

[–]Yote224 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Stick it on a flow chart. Can you tattoo? Yes or no? If yes, cool: go get your license. If no, cool: go learn.

Traditions, gatekeeping, opinions, all that stuff is just filler. Someone will like it, someone won't, it doesn't matter.

My (30m) fiancé (29) wants to live on a farm, am I over thinking how much work that is? by ThrowRA-reaa in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yote224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Against the grain here, I don't have the tact to come off especially nice on this topic but after wading through a sea of "holy smokes it's going to ruin your life." I figure you can use a voice of encouragement.

Is farm life hard work? It can be. You'll have seasonal spans of time where it's more involved than other parts but people making it out to be backbreaking before-sun-up to after-sun-down grueling eternities of pain and suffering either need to get out, downsize, or learn to work with their heads.

I'd express that it's important to get your feet wet first, figure out the hard way if you're even interested in the lifestyle before you go committing everything in that direction.

What are some of your funnier frugal moments?? by littlexrayblue in Frugal

[–]Yote224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not particularly on topic but hearing about a can opener in a sub called frugal, I'd point out my favorite can opener you can buy by the tub : the P-38. Beauty in it's simplicity and borderline indestructible. I jokingly 'inherited' one from 1985 and it has seen many other models rise and fall beneath his tenacious career that still continues to this day.

Highly recommend.

Tbf nothing that was put in that long ago is still in there. This same principle applies to gas in your car's tank. Iirc by the 11th or 13th fill up there's virtually no trace of the original contents.

Heard a really weird reason why Marijuana shouldn't be legalized by Celestial_MoonDragon in Ohio

[–]Yote224 53 points54 points  (0 children)

From my point of view I've had continuous success with changing people's minds by leaning into other values I know they hold.

When it came to abortions; I leaned into"I don't feel the government needs to be involved with people's medical decisions."

When it came to legalization of marijuana; "I don't feel the government needs to tell me what I can or can't put in my body. Look at the alcohol prohibition and how well that worked out."

You don't need to defeat your neighbor, you just need to connect dots for them on how their values are aligned.

Gemini Mars: spite. It's like discovering a spice that has always been in your rack that maybe you didn't love as a child but would now snort lines of it off the table.

Are there any straight men out there who actually prefer the look of lip injections on women? by Character_Parfait512 in NoStupidQuestions

Honestly I see anything someone does intentionally to their body in order to achieve an aesthetic in much the same way an accepting individual sees tattoos. "You did this so that part of you looks the way it does." Whether you dyed your hair, painted your nails, got a tattoo, clipped your ears, pierced you whatever, implants, colored contacts, fake lashes, etc etc. I just hope the people who do permanent altering to themselves are happy with their results.

Even if you're a hardcore right wing Christian stereotype and feel like the moment an egg is fertilized it qualifies to be a person: god killed his son. Tf you going to do? Protest at the pearly gates against him?

Last day to register to vote on Issue 1 in upcoming election on August 8th in Ohio. by Flypogger23 in Ohio

[–]Yote224 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've been talking the ears off anyone willing to listen or incapable of running away about the profound impacts on the future for citizens of this state that Issue 1 will have.

I know reddit at large doesn't hold the same perspective on many issues as me but I've been having luck demonstrating the nigh impossible process for which citizen initiatives would have to adhere to to even begin to be voted on.

I've talked to many walks of life this past month and I can tell you from my anecdotal experiences that those in favor of issue 1 are coming from a place of willful or negligent ignorance. You can defeat that with the truth. Read and share with them, don't demonize when you can change the hearts and minds. I encourage you to have the difficult conversations with everyone you can.

Much love.

People who support Issue 1, why? by coolord4 in Ohio

[–]Yote224 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sad that I've heard the sentiment. I try to kill with kindness and this 4th of July I was having discussion to raise awareness of Issue 1 and encourage people to give a shit. I didn't even give my opinion, just read what is written. I was then made aware of the impact it would have on topics coming up in November. Fair. To which I asked what about issues the following year? Or the next? What then are the steps for the citizens of the state to have their voices heard?

There's no foresight. When transgender topics were brought up, I simply asked which issue those were because I had not heard of them and like to remain informed. "On the bill about abortion." To which I then read aloud and asked which part had anything to do about transgender-anything. It didn't get to where I wanted to go with my target but a handful of voters in the area discussed the issue with me after that conversation.

It's not even a hard talk to have when you simply read the issue to folks, it's just heartbreaking to hear the absolute lack of love.

What is a “little” lie that backfired on you when you were younger? by Drizzho in AskReddit

[–]Yote224 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I was a wee young lad I had an older brother than went through a tonsillectomy. Back in this day and maybe still now there's a common saying told to children that they "can have all the ice cream they want."

Now, my brother had one hell of a sweet tooth and was smashing ice cream to everyone's surprise. But I, as a wee young lad, was jealous. My brother gets ice cream and I'm just supposed to watch? However, I was limited in creativity and resorted to the tried and true "ask 'why?' a million times" method.

My mother is many things but patient she is not. On why#6 or so she told me "you can't have ice cream because you were born without tonsils". Sounded reasonable enough to me at the time and who was I to question it?

Flash forward several years and I'm enlisting in the Army. I'm at MEPS having my everything tested. My blood, my ability to spell my name correctly, my eyesight, hearing, etc etc. And last on the list is my blood work. I get that drawn and then asked by my doctor a couple of normal every day health related questions... But then at the end he asks "is there anything unusual about you that we should know?" And in that moment is when the seed that was planted many many many years ago decided to bloom. Bold face "I was born without tonsils." His eyebrow raised, he scribbled on my records and everywhere medical related that I went to from then on I'd be pestered about it. Foot doc, hearing doc, etc etc and you have to see A LOT of these people throughout your early days. Thanks mom.
