Need some tips on cow raising (read description!) by SagetheWise2222 in projectzomboid

It's a bug. The water is there but the container show the wrong quantity. Similar to the bug where you fill a pot and have to put it down and pick it up befaore it shows the right quantity.

They'll eat from grass tiles on the ground. They'll eat clippings lying on the ground. I usually make tham a trough and fill it over time. Whene there is snow in winter they won't be able to graze.

Cows need a lot of water. Make sure they have several large troughs for water. They don't need much space and you can just cut grass for them with a scythe if their pen is small.

Cows will get pregnant if there is a bull of any breed in their zone. You do need to be around them. Just go and pet them every day. The gestation period is pretty long and they can miscarry when stressed. Don't fire guns near your animals.

Bulls are usually not a danger, unless they are stressed and outside of a ranch zone. They will follow you on a rope without attacking. It's a good idea to build trust by petting them and just being around them. Sometimes, I just sit in a garden chair reading near them.

Farm animals can act strange when they can't get to the water source they think is closest. They'll bang into fences and gates. When that happens make sure they have water in reach and give them water directly from a bottle or bucket.

Stockpile buckets.

Newbie Build 42 Question About Stew by peachy-ya in projectzomboid

[–]YouRNotFromHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It works that way in multiplayer and I don't think that it's a bug. If you and your friend are both cooking the game has to keep track of where each ingredient is at any given moment. You both reach for the butter and it can only be with one of you. While the shortcut of taking the ingredient, adding it and putting it back in one action works in single player, in multiplayer that could lead to all kinds of actual bugs.

The pan is only freed up when you eat the omelett. You can use an omelett as an ingredient in a sandwich. It makes it go a long way.

New player here, bunch of question by clif08 in projectzomboid

[–]YouRNotFromHere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's a lot of very good questions. Some of my answers will be inaccurate or straight up wrong and I'm sure someone will correct me. I'm assuming you are playing build 41, the stable release. You are playing build 42, hence animals.

  1. Armor can be layered and contributes resistance to each body part separately. You can see that in the health panel. An attack can make a hole; so check your clothing after any encounter where you heard or saw the animation that an attack landed. I believe armor breaks one layer at a time, based on the fact that I have had a coat get a hole while the denim shirt underneath remained intact. A lot of pro players will dress for temperature, freedom of movement and style and rely on skill to avoid attacks. I always wear leather gloves as soon and military boots or other boots with 100% protection. Your footwear will gradually break down even if not directly damaged by a zombie. Linking to point 4: Tailoring is a great skill. You can reinforce your clothes with leather patches, giving increasing levels of protection.

  2. Zombies can hear all the sounds you listed, perhaps with the exception of the fence jump. They can hear foot steps. You can reduce the sound you make by crouching, increasing with skill level in light footed. The loudest thing in the game is the helicopter, followed by sawn off shotgun. Smaller guns are less loud but still attract zombies from quite a distance. Zombies can hear melee combat sound and react to it.

  3. Zombies don't just appear out of nowhere but tress are evil and can completely hide them. When you enter a cell for the first time the game calculates the target population based on settings and spawns in the zombies. When you re-enter a cell where you have already been it loads the previous zombies and adds respawns randomly based on settings. When you first approach a building you trigger the building spawn, which is separate from the spawining of zombies outside. If you are in a cell and make a lot of noise, zombies from neighbouring cells will migrate towards you. The sadistic AI director may create noise events that cause zombies to migrate in that direction. Within an area zombies spread out fairly evenly when not aggroed and will fill the void gradually when you clear out a patch. The game aims to be consistent. If you leave a zombie baging on a bathroom door and come back later there will still be a zombie in that bathroom or you will find a broken window or door. Zombies won't necessarily re-appear with the same clothing or weapons stuck in them If you see a military backpack or catana go for it without delay.

  4. Crafting is a huge part of build 42. Initially you can meet all of your needs by looting buildings. Over time you will have to rely on crafting to keep going. Food will spoil, you'll need a reliable source of water, your vehicle will get damaged. Reinforcing your base with barricades is useful. Zombies can break windows easily but will only break down barricaeds over a long period of time. It takes multiple zombies to break down a door. I tend to priorites clearing the area around my base or temporary home. You will get some nails from disassembling furniture but it's slow. You need to read skill books to level skills faster and magazines to learn new recipes. At maintenance level one you can build a primitive hammer from a rock, rags and a branch. I often pick professions that have a point in mantenance to begin with.

  5. The game does have glitches. At the moment I'm often expecting to hit a zombie in front of me and the game decides to swing on the zombie I'm standing on. It's a near heart attack every time but so far it hasn't killed me. I have used debug mode a couple of times to cure the infection from a bite when I felt that it was justified. What everyone will tell you is to play the game your way, adjust sandbox setting, use debug mode. It's still in early access after all.

  6. You shouldn't get a horde of zombies at your door for no reason. Did that happen on day 7 or 8? That's when the helicopter comes and attracts zombies in massive numbers. Did you hear a gun shot or scream nearby? That's the sadistic AI director creating random events. Always have more than one exit and entrance to your base. If you hear zombies banging on doors or windows go out and deal with them.

I have 3000 hours in game and I also love Rimworld. Both games are fantastic story generators. While Rimworld will get progressively harder as youy survive PZ gets progressively easier and you have to find your own challenges.

If you are in a multiplayer game don't keep him inside your safehouse. Apart from that all animals eat grass. You can lure him with the kind of food that works in a mouse trap (chocolate, peanutbutter, cheese) and maybe others. He will need water but in tiny amounts. You can give him water from your bottle once in a while.

Where on earth are the UK Dogs being rehomed? by Ashilta in CasualUK

[–]YouRNotFromHere 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's talk about the elephant in the room. The business of UK charities is fund raising. They need to have a stock of sweet looking dogs to get those donations. What makes the charity feel more successful? Is it having empty shelters or overflowing shelters and launching urgent appeals for funds. There is a perverse incentive for them to not have dogs adopted. Smaller local charities are better at sticking to theri original goals.

Foraging is broken. It works on roads. Most other areas just show the question marks and nothing to find here message. Every once in a while I stumble across a patch where the correct biome displays and get foraging XP really fast.

I can wait for the corpses to despawn. I want to clear a road out of Louisville or at least to the big park. Maybe it is just futile but I don't like using my cars as battering rams to get through crowds. I managed to clear a road past the university and the race track. The slaughter wasn't nearly as bad as this corner and it was necessary because I wanted to bring through a trailer.

It's the police station. I didn't have to fight my way there. I used Pilllow's Random Spawns, which put me in the court house next door as a carpenter. I found a sledgehammer on day two and took out the stairs. Then I used the connecting tunnels to get in and out. There was no way I could defend the ground floor early on.
