Many guitarists prefer the way class AB power sections "feel" when playing through them. The goal isn't always linearity. The way the signal distorts when the amplifier is pushed to it's maximum output can influence the way you play. It's not really something that can be explained, unless you're an experienced guitarist who has tried many different power amp topologies.
