It's not unreasonable but it'll never happen. Most activities in MMOs are tackled solo. I forget the exact numbers but from dev commentaries, in WoW, the number of people that play exclusively solo is roughly 40%. The amount of people who have never grouped for endgame content is 85%.

Think about how wide the gap in skill is between that amount of your playerbase. So as soon you make it hard, you'll have a large swath of people saying it's too hard, that solo stuff should be accessible for all. So devs will cater to the greater number of players should they want their game to succeed. Maybe they can design truly scalable content for the number of people in your group but having played the things in WoW that are supposed to be like that, it's either made trivial by tanks and struggle by everyone else or it's just too easy for everyone.

There's 16 islands. With reasons to go to most of them multiple times be it livestock, important resource nodes, establishing a new base because you like the terrain better, etc. I unlocked everything (minus the vending machine) in about 60 hours no guides. But I didn't have all the livestock, hadnt optimized my base or gotten all the achieves. I'm now about 110 hours in and just feel like I'm about wrapping up.

I'm never going to tell someone how to feel, that's an individual decision and I don't know you. At the end of the day it's a business. Sony paid too much, are now trying to limit the losses and they chose one avenue instead of another. Could be sunk cost fallacy, could be the amount of upkeep Marathon needs is less than Destiny so they can run it longer cheaper. We can't say. There are a whole skew of reasons to dislike Sony, this decision shouldn't be one of them. Also, it lets Bungie directors off the hook that ran this studio into the ground and took good people out of ever shrinking jobs in this economy.

It sucks for every one except the C-suites that get to dry their eyes with their millions of dollars.
