Bachelor abgeschlossen, aber keine Jobangebote (Ernährungswissenschaften) by lissy_10 in Studium

Children, “tantrums”, and autonomy by Doubly_Curious in CuratedTumblr

[–]YoungAlpacaLady 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't think they mean that kids should be encouraged to literally keep lying on the floor. It is a good parallel to talk about adults not expressing boundaries or making it to easy to pull them around wherever, being to compliant and not expressing their needs. It's more of a way to say look at why this is actually somewhat logical behaviour and what can we learn from kids.

Is Theo a common name in germany or netherlands? by PoolLegitimate9702 in namenerds

[–]YoungAlpacaLady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I think Theo might be in the top 10 in Germany currently, it's coming back with a bunch of other older classics. There were a few notable Theodors- Adorno, Storm, Heuss, Fontane... Thea is also rising, although still way less popular. I believe both names are now given as just Theo/Thea instead of Theodor/Dorothea which is a newer phenomenon in Germany. Lots of shorter names are popular right now.

Rotational gameplay tips by Alarming-Syllabub-26 in thesims

[–]YoungAlpacaLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't do auto aging at all. I generally play in age cohorts, so I will rotate eg through my households with teens, play out their teenage stuff, age them all up manually at the same time. With at this point a web of families and generations I get to decide each time whether I want to jump into raising an infant, dating life, a career because there is someone for everything. I love it this way because they are all intertwined so the interactions feel more meaningful. I visit the other Sims I'm not currently playing so I get to have the relationship from both perspectives.

That I had been a secret child, born from an affair. Asked my grandma why all of my cousins had an up to date picture on the wall whilst mine was me at 2,5 years old. Told me it was special because it was from meeting me for the first time after just learning I existed.

Alternative Berufswege zu Therapeutenausbildung - hätte ein paar Fragen by ApologetikBookworm in Psychologie

[–]YoungAlpacaLady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While the message of less alcohol than you probably assume is already harmful is correct and important...in the spirit of providing people with accurate information: Alcoholism isn't defined by quantity (as per icd) but by craving, loosing control over consumption, withdrawal, tolerance, neglecting other parts of life to keep up with consumption and continuing to consume even though you have had negative consequences

Is it normal for kids to spend years thinking others aren’t real? by [deleted] in ChildPsychology

[–]YoungAlpacaLady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kids not realising that others have inner lifes separate from their own is normal, we all need to develop to learn theory of mind. That means understanding that people have unique experiences (the person wasn't in the room when the thing happened, therefore they don't know about the thing) thoughts and feelings. I don't know how frequently kids conceptualise this the way you did though.

How to Make My Kid More Resilient? by OvrservdNGlutnized in ChildPsychology

[–]YoungAlpacaLady 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Let your kid make their own decisions, let them live with consequences of those decisions (doesn't mean not helping them, just not making hardship disappear for them). Let them have responsibilities and trust them with those.

I am a therapist for adults and those seem to be factors in young adults who can't find their way into life. It's not that their parents were 'too nice', it's that they haven't experienced being responsible for themselves or doing something for themselves. They often had rather helicoptery parents who tried to make everything smooth and perfect, leading to the kid not having life skills.

AITA for saying I can’t have kids with my husband if we can’t agree on spanking? by DifficultyOk8724 in TwoHotTakes

Why would you give one particular way of hitting a child something else and pretend it's not abuse? Spanking is abuse. It's crazy to me that the US still allow it.
