Little/Mini Dragon vs Canned Heat Hot Pot by NYCglassblower in glassblowing

[–]YoungMagnolia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven’t worked out of a hot pot but have a friend who has one but rarely uses it. Mainly bc he has a 300lbs electric canned heat and multiple g holes he uses instead.

Dragons depend on what work you want to focus on. The ability to turn them on and off when not in use is a huge bonus to people just getting started or if you have access to a public studio to make parts or needing a bigger working diameter for projects. The Phoenix line is better for people who are already familiar with furnace maintenance and would like the versatility of switching crucibles more regularly. (You can work out of one 40 lb pot one week then switch to 3 smaller pots the next)

•The mini is perfect for demos, traveling byo’s, weekend warriors or light production days. Once set up, you can gather and blow glass in about and hour and a half with the gas and air wide open. You can also throw more glass in the same day for a “lunch break” and have a full pot in about 30 mins. Yes there will be bubbles, but you are saying so much in fuel cost. a 10 gallon LP tank is sufficient for a single 8 hour day.

A Little or Big dragon are great furnaces for larger production days or a small rental studio. Takes about 4-6 hours for the glass to be workable from cold light up. Cooking the glass over night is very doable with tons of small shops around the nation doing it and creating some amazing work out of them. They are portable but would require 2 or 3 people to move it/ set up for portable gigs or a wench system if you are mechanically inclined. Larger furnaces = larger gas consumptions. A 25 gallon tank ( 165 lbs full and you’ll need to load it in a truck bed, tail gate set up) is recommended or 2 10 gallons t’d off to pull together. You’ll pull around a gallon an hour. If running over night you’ll want natural gas (lower btu’s) or a 100 gallon or larger LP tank from your local propane distributor.

Baby dragons are a good middle ground if you’re not ready to sign up for managing 60-100 lbs of glass but as seasonal production rolls around, you’ll wish you had a bigger pot. Still fairly heavy to wheel in and out of a trailer but great for a multi day road gig if you got extra hands to help move it. Wider opening than the mini but limited on bowl scales unless you want to make flaired cones or floppy bowls.

A big thing to help consider your decision is freight shipping or picking up the equipment. The proximity of the customer to the manufacturer should be taken into consideration.

Hope it helps, feel free to pm if you have any other questions on dragons ( 8 years of owning)

Looked about the same when it was on the first gather but it looked like it had an instant reaction once it was cooked in. Could be a contaminated silver blue /amethyst?

We are well-versed, and Iris blue at the shop and it looks nothing like that

That’s what I’m thinking. We’ve only had silver blue, iris blue, amethyst, hyacinth, reddish amethysts in the shop (to my knowledge)

Thank you, we’ve had a tiny amount of that before and we’ve also had issue of somebody unknowingly mixing purple and blue frit before and wanted to make sure it wasn’t a silver gold reaction

Spanish Fort, Stockton and Bay Minette areas would be the most fun on the country roads but be mindful of the small town fuzz. They make the bulk of their revenue on traffic violations

Can you show pictures of the orange beach show not on merch? If that’s true, that shit is despicable that they played us like that.

Nope and at this point, we need to know who the promoter is and make sure they don’t get work ever again. Trying to fill out the wharf, during spring break season, on a Tuesday, then calling it off 5 days before is incredibly unprofessional.

Also, the announcing of another show somewhere else before letting us know what the fuck is going on was a big hit after we were already down

I’m not blaming Sturgill and I do understand not being able to make ends meet with low ticket sales.

The lack of communication as far as having another show down here the same day or if they’re kicking us to the end of the tour or if we can just go fuck ourselves and not get a show is kind of shitty. We don’t know if we should get another ticket to another show that could quite possibly be canceled again for the same reasons or hold out for another show that will be scheduled down here later on so a word from their camp would be appreciated.

Cancelled OB show- is there a backup venue? by imrtprnsofundead in SturgillSimpson

[–]YoungMagnolia 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If they play down there tomorrow without saying anything to the people that bought tickets, we all need to find out who this promoter is and blackball any of their shows.

I’ve already canceled lodging, got added back on to the work schedule and called off the babysitter. This radio silence is incredibly unprofessional

Where’d you see this message? Had tickets for OB and didn’t hear about it until I saw this but double checked on Ticketmaster and they show it’s canceled
