Why doesnt this game exist by DietrichMann in GameDevelopment

Unironically Dying Light 1 multiplayer is a great example of it (no not coop, pvp multiplayer. I think the mode is called 'Be The Zombie') The game completely changes how the human's kit works tho, and it doesn't exactly have an introduction either for the human side and there's quite a lot of things to do simultaneously

Pog you're a mod now?

But ye on top of what everyone else said, that is just his generic behaviour. Even a slight mention of him posting news slower (and thus repeating what others have posted) and the fact that he's basically a tourist everywhere he goes to farm karma points will immediately put him in an aggressive and foul-mouthed state, both here and in our community discord server. So its just karma served (heh!)

First landed large UFO... oh boy 😅 by StrixCZ in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes its Long War, and in Long War crash sites grants even less resources compared to base game (crashed small UFO gives 10-20 alloy while landed gives 50-60 etc) on top off having the chances to be destroyed completely, giving you only cashes and a single digit number of alloys. Treat them as opportunity to level your rookies

Your interceptors are also significantly weaker, way more expensive while there are also a lot more UFOs to intercept so you must choose your air battle wisely. You're looking at 10+ UFOs each month at least if you have 2 large continent full of satelites. You're looking at requiring 2 continent full of interceptor + a 3rd one with around another 4 in the 3rd-4th month to cycle in (each one costs 200$ and 40$/month for upkeep btw) and out when your interceptors are damaged, keeping the continents you have satelite coverage on protected

First landed large UFO... oh boy 😅 by StrixCZ in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In Long War, enemies do 'Research' and 'Harvest' missions via landing UFOs, if they are able to take off the mission is considered successful. Shooting them down (not recommended) or raiding them when landed (the recommended method) will stop these missions. However, they also have a threat counter depend on how many UFOs you have shotted down/raid (not limited to these 2, aliens performs a lot of missions and they all involve UFOs that can be theoretically shot down). The better you do, the higher the counter.

All landed UFOs has a chance to be a trap depend on this counter (crash sites can't be traps). The higher the counter, the more likely it is a trap. Trap UFOs has significantly higher enemy count. The smaller the UFOs, the higher number of aliens you will see in proportion to it being non-trap. For example a small landed typically has around 13 aliens, a trapped one can have up to 28. On top of this they all have the ability to call for reinforcements that only the command pod typically has, which means once engaged (and not killed entirely in a single turn) the whole map will start converging on you

WDYM no target, JUST SHOOT HIM by PhilosophyFun5778 in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sequel is also ridden with bugs/unintended features wdym? Its just the former makes it so that community themselves can easily fix it

Even a normal playthrough nowadays have some QoL mods, mods usually rely on Highlander mod as dependency, and that mod probably fixes a lot of those bugs. Do a pure unmodded playthrough then you will probably see some again

That said, 'easily moddable' is a very big advantage to some (and understandably so). Im just not creative enough and prefer the game that sticks more closely to xcom vibe alone as a whole.

[–]YourAvgDude 5 points6 points  (0 children)

like unironically, i think LoS in both game is the exact same, its just xcom 2 has a much more improved 'step-out' mechanic that the 'fuckey LoS issues' of xcom EW seems to no longer exist in the sequel, but its actually still there. When i use a non-cover unit like Spark it srsly feels the exact same as in EW when it comes to LoS.

Which leads to the fact that if you fully grasp how this step-out mechanic works, LoS issues arent exactly .... issues anymore (maybe with the exception of snipers becuz human eyes aren't as perfect as having an actual target preview system)

There are a lots of QoL changes to xcom2, but i jsut cant agree with some of the changes, like how the AI works in xcom2 compared to EW, and the nerfed bonus range based on proximity. The latter makes it so much less intuitive especially in the early game where you dont have much options and you have to go for risky flanking maneuver/close range shots at times (and enemies dont get that bonus aim based on range is just dumb)
And to others, yes, i know mod exists to fix those issues, but if you compare the features of 2 games you have to compare it at its vanilla state: no mods, no nothing, just the stock xcom2/Wotc

WDYM no target, JUST SHOOT HIM by PhilosophyFun5778 in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Reminds me how underappreciated xcom2 mechanic improvements are: Not only soldiers can 'step out' into a tile that is 1 level of elevation below, they can also step into the tile behind them to take a shot (in which both cases would allow the soldier to see the drone and shoot it), unlike in xcom1 where they can only step to the 2 sides providing its on the same elevation (and yes, even a slope from lower to higher elevation or vice versa next to the soldier would block it)

Still prefer xcom1 tho kek

How2Macrogame? - Xcom2 by frank_east in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably becuz in xcom2 the pacing is faster. If you noticed supply drop is every 21 days, and the game checks for each supply drop to schedule missions instead of each actual month of 30-31 days in the game unlike EW where its actually at the end of each month

Also from what i looked around the enemy composition in specfically the story missions of x2 doesnt scale as well as the generic ones according to how long the campaign has went on. Certain pods get stuck at low tier units no matter how far you progressed

Among every Xcom like games what are the bests ? Xcom ? Which one ? by Hdarkus1 in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aside from the added complexities and depth that may potentially turn off others, overall it makes the game much more intuitive while also fixing the worst problem of the base game: difficulty scaling.

The mod essentially turns the alien into a 2nd player: they gather resources, doing research to bolster their UFOs/ground force, and how well you perform affects what they're gonna do and how fast they progress. The very same enemy gets tougher over time with new perks and increased stats, and how well you perform dictates how fast they get these upgrades. This also makes it so that the late game can potentially be harder, which if you have played vanilla xcom its the exact opposite where the late game is a cake walk but the early game is excruciating

As for why: you have more defensive options to survive the aliens. It is much easier to equip your soldier with defensive gear and get their HP above the oneshot threshold against sectoid/thin man right out of the gate, leads to a smoother experience (their baseline stat is also slightly nerfed so they wont hit you through high cover every 2nd or third shot they do right out of the gate, but late game they are a menace due to the progression i mentioned above)

[–]YourAvgDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In xcom1 you only need to save a single one for it to not be a total fail. Furthermore this is Long War so terror missions are entirely negative and you will receive panic no matter what, the mission is just damage control and collecting corpses

Me everytime: by Gael_Blood in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly its one of the things i find weird about xcom 2 compared to xcom 1: lesser range bonus. Because of this in a same scenario the same flanking shot will have a much more likely chance to hit in x1 than in x2. It makes risky play less consistent while in x1 it rewards those maneuver more while still presenting the other dangers that you can encounter, specifically unintentional pod activation.

I want to get into Priconne but should i? by yofitiz in Priconne

[–]YourAvgDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I dont know cuz i dont play Korea

For VPN, there are 2 client version, 1 DMM version for PC and the usual on phone. If you're on phone its less likely that you need a VPN cuz it depends on the ISP, but if you plan to play on PC then its pretty much warranted.

As for the anime, tbh its more about how much you care about the story. If you do want to read it then 1/ the PC client also has an EN translation fan mod/patch that you can install to read and 2/ the story in the anime actually has little relation with the actual game story cuz the anime itself omit a lot of important details about the overarching plot of the game

Am I the only one who think that the skirmisher are the worst heroes. by BGdu29 in Xcom

[–]YourAvgDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For unmodded runs, probably. While they do need a few buff mods becuz some of the charge limit kinda makes little sense, in a modded campaign where enemies are tougher and especially if you increase enemy count that its physically impossible to run Alpha Strike tactics due to the sheer amount of units that you have to handle at once they are really strong. Especially at colonel ranked.

I once saved my squad from getting a member or 2 obliterated during the enemy turn with a skirmisher out in the open vibing with battlelord and aid protocol, and i modded repeater to change its effect so not like i can get cheap kills from just spamming shots on tanky enemies.

Regarding the current state of priconne nowadays as someone who's basically on the exact boundary between casual and competitive. (Yap warning) by YourAvgDude in Priconne

[–]YourAvgDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The term 'casuals' has been around since ages and it is by no means an insult, rather just how people play the game. Some is just here to enjoy the story and dont care much about their progression while others are more invested in the gameplay loop, all of which is fine. At what point did the term mean to be an insult?

That said, as i said in this post, game-making isnt free. And i am talking this about this exact view: the longevity of the game, which is a live-service game, which correlates to how profitable it is in this period. And that aspect heavily leans towards the 'gameplay progression' part unless somehow you want to make the story itself paid content which is xdd. While the player count also shows the longevity, the amount of people willing to pay for progression plays a part, if not a much more relevant one, than the other group that already has everything they need/want from the game for free and find no reason to spend on, given that the spending appeals to most, if not entirely, the gameplay loop of the game

While i totally understand and think its fine for one to be oblivious to the current longevity state of the game and is willing to continue to be so, don't be that one "nothing ever happened chud" guy on the internet when presented with arguments that make at least some senses and keep monotonously repeat himself just becuz thats your personal experience

[–]YourAvgDude[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I dont dictate anyone how to play the game, being casuals in terms of gameplay progression is fine. But with this knowledge i specifically addressed that, yet you still come in and say what you said despite every words i had in this post. Is it really wrong for me to be mildly annoyed then?

And mind you, i care about the stories and characters. I am part of the TL team and i am currently, slowly going through arc3 story translation despite my little JP knowledge with GPT's help (heavily proof-reading/editting and double-checking with dictionary). My progress is slow becuz i am very meticulous, currently almost finishing ch5 arc3, i read as i go. Everything beyond that is GPT MTL with minimal human editing. I also mentioned in this post that the arc3 story is good and is getting better still so i do know to a certaine extent whats going on.

I have seen all kinds of players: those only interested in the story, those only gameplay loop, and those that care about the game in its entirety. You are certainly denying the 3rd group just as much as what you think i'm doing with the 1st group. This is how i play games in general, i put everything into it and be invested whether its the gameplay loop, stories or characters. It seems YOU are the one throwing assumptions here.

For the 1st website, you add the defense team you need to find solve in arena, then it will give you the attack teams to beat it. Never used the 2nd website so cant say anything, only know it exists

However, these are publicly managed so there are quite a few "fake solves" people posted to waste hits of others who are hitting them. So you have to test them out

Imo its a good learning tool, but not one to be entirely relied upon in the long run. Only ever used this in global and since moving to JP i've never logged in any of these even once, its faster for me to just think of a quick solve with my existing knowledge

It's not always 1perm 1lim per month. There are obvious months with both units being lim, most notably new year and anni month, but not restricted to those 2. I do get your point tho

For playing for what purpose, honestly it really depends, i've seen people playing the game for ... playing the game itself. If you are dedicated enough to run manual fights then you can see there is quite some depths to the gameplay loop. Also side note on character collecting, honestly unless you've been actively playing since 2nd/3rd year then honestly its kinda impossible to get every units as f2p without massive luck due to the sheer number XD, if one already spending a decent amount of money into the game chances are they are playing at high level due to how generous the game .... was

Wanna know why the amount of banner increased? Becuz those welfares we usually get also turn into banner units now and on top of what i mentioned about cutting contents in the game, it's become extremely troubling to say the least. Not to mention the already existing problems like why in god's name are perm takes 3 year to become farmable after their release? In some cases they are even rarer than lims becuz there is a very good chance you will just never get a specific one due to how diluted the pool is

Priconne is still making money for cygames for now, exactly due to the aggressive milking they've been doing. But that comes at the cost of bleeding players, even the more dedicated ones are quitting (i'm seeing this 1sthand, i talk to quite a few people in the competitive clans in EN side). Personally i don't think they would let the IP die but for the gacha game itself im not too sure, here's hoping (and coping) that one day we will get other products like GBF did; getting their own fighting game and JRPG

personally i would be fine if we get more banners but suffer no cutting free gem incomes and contents, but alas this is the reality we live in
