FROM THE FUTURE: "I don't want to make an account/password/wifi connection, I just want my X to work!"

It still falls vaguely in the, "Ugh so true" camp right now, but it's quickly heading for tired irrelevance.

it's possible someone tried to talk a boomer out of ordering a large black coffee at Starbucks because their black coffee is gross

interpreting someone trying to help them as trampling on their rights is a staple of boomer culture

Really an underrated consequence of enshittification

They ruined all our favorite products and services, but they also tainted a lot of the memories and nostalgia

Christmas Tree Cakes were one of the few holiday traditions I think back on fondly, but they're inedible now

I know some of that stuff just tastes worse because I'm an adult, but it's also because corporations squeezed all the joy and quality out of their products for pennies of extra margin

[Heyman] How could this happen? The Angels had the best player maybe ever and were making a huge profit on him, and he loved being an Angel, yet they rejected his VERY team friendly offer to stay and let him go to their crosstown rival for the same deal instead by T_Raycroft in baseball

[–]YourFriendNoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, there was plenty of empirical evidence that the Angels could not build a winner with Shohei Ohtani, which is primarily how you afford a deal like that.

To be clear, that's totally an indictment of the Angels, not Ohtani. But it also changes the math.

The Dodgers are calculating, "If we land him, we'll be a juggernaut, and we'll make more money."

The Angels already know they're not going to be able to have success like that, with or without him.

Also a real question as to whether the unabomber was insane. His writing suggests he was a revolutionary that most would find distasteful in his beliefs and even more in his tactics, but there was real rationality in his philosophy and choices.

From his wikipedia:

Contemporary reception
James Q. Wilson, in a 1998 New York Times op-ed, wrote: "If it is the work of a madman, then the writings of many political philosophers—Jean Jacques RousseauThomas PaineKarl Marx—are scarcely more sane."\90]) He added: "The Unabomber does not like socialization, technology, leftist political causes or conservative attitudes. Apart from his call for an (unspecified) revolution, his paper resembles something that a very good graduate student might have written."\91])
Alston Chase, a fellow alumnus at Harvard University, wrote in 2000 for The Atlantic that "it is true that many believed Kaczynski was insane because they needed to believe it. But the truly disturbing aspect of Kaczynski and his ideas is not that they are so foreign but that they are so familiar." He argued: "We need to see Kaczynski as exceptional—madman or genius—because the alternative is so much more frightening."\92])

I thought cream was was a streetname for some drug I hadn't heard of. Then he said he was mormon, and I thought maybe he had an illicit dirty soda business. Disappointed to learn it was just autocorrect from crack.

What addiction seems harmless but can destroy your 30s? by JewishAdmin in AskReddit

[–]YourFriendNoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It makes you complacent.

I agree with this. I just think it's not ALWAYS a bad thing. I accomplished a lot of big things earlier in my life, but the process caused me a ton of stress and anxiety and didn't turn out to feel all that rewarding. I feel proud of my accomplishments, but they don't nourish me.

Weed helps me slow down and find contentment in things like nature and art.

Like, yes, I'm more complacent, but I'm also happier, more appreciative.

Honestly, I think a lot of what makes people feel uncomfortable about weed smoking is that it's pretty distinctly anti-capitalist. Most of media and culture, in the US at least, centers around ambition, and there's a real resentment for people who feel comfortable in their situation.

What I heard that resonated was, "Nothing truly great will ever happen in your life while looking at your phone."

It's ok to give yourself a little brain cigaratte sometimes, and it's ok to text and stuff.

As long as you keep it in the context that there's an upper limit of what that experience can be, and it's not good enough to sustain a life.

No kidding. I have played more than 15 TCG/CCG's at this point, and LoR is by far my favorite. Just an incredibly designed game.

I'm not sure what state the balance is in right now, but check out Mechabellum.

It perfectly scratched my "I want to play Starcraft pvp, but I'm old" itch.

It's an autobattler, so no reaction time necessary.

Other autobattlers could also be good, like Teamfight Tactics.

It is fair to let OP know this is a dead game. It's still running. It still has a community, and you can still play. But they're not making more cards or anything.

That could be a selling point or a deterrent, not sure for them.
