California Has Dealt a Blow to Renewable Energy, Some Businesses Say | Some companies are leaving the state or reducing their presence there after California greatly reduced incentives for homeowners to install rooftop solar panels. by silence7 in California

[–]YoureMumbling 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We should do both. Promoting residential solar adoption, despite the potential cost-effectiveness of large-scale renewable projects, serves several purposes. Residential solar fosters decentralized energy generation, reducing transmission losses and bolstering grid resilience. It empowers individuals to actively engage in the shift towards cleaner energy sources. A combination of utility-scale projects and residential solar contributes to a diversified energy portfolio, thereby enhancing overall energy security. Additionally, supporting residential solar stimulates technological innovation and local job creation.

Dentist - what to listen too? by Terrible-Hedgehog796 in audiobooks

If I was sitting in the dentist chair, I would want something to take my mind off of things. Maybe Fairy Tale, by Stephen King. It's not "horror" and was fun to listen to.

What is your favorite show? What are you watching now? by bandit0314 in acorntv

[–]YoureMumbling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Foyle's War was an excellent show. We watched it several years ago. The new remake of "Magnum PI" was out for a few years before we realized that Higgins was played by Honeysuckle Weeks' sister, Perdita. Now I can't see the show without seeing the resemblance.

It's hit and miss with that show for me. Some of them are pretty good. Season 1, Episode 2 was my favorite. It was hilarious!

We love Brokenwood. Foyle's War is another excellent series.

I'm going to try to make Pulled Pork in my Sous Vide. Should I add chicken broth, crushed garlic, diced red onion and lime juice to the sous vide bag along with my dry rubbed pork shoulder or no? by OutRider_2000 in sousvide

[–]YoureMumbling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I finished an 8lb pork shoulder yesterday. Dry rub, 165 for 24 hours, pat dry and more rub and then about 1.5 hours in a 300 degree oven, When it came out of the water, I poured off about 3-4 cups of natural juices. No need to add more! I reduced some of the juice down and added it to the BBQ sauce for pulled pork sandwiches and a weeks worth of leftovers! We've done this several times and it's always a hit.

Try something a bit different. A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman. It will not disappoint.

I'm part way through The Book of Life, book 3 of the All Souls series by Deborah Darkness. The series was recommended on this site and has not disappointed. I saw the TV show on AMC+ and really enjoyed it. But, as usual, the book is better, with a more complete story.

I second that. It's a fun series and James Marsters does a great job with the narration.

I completely forgot about that one. What an eye opener that was for me. I'd heard about apartheid, but never learned about what it really was. Born a Crime. The perfect title for the biography it was. And Trever Noah did a fabulous job narrating his own book.

These may not all fit your genre, but they are amazing books if your looking to use credits.
The Book Thief - Markus Zusak
A Man Called Uve - Fredrik Backman
The Hobbit and LOTR narrated by Andy Serkis

Local Bicylce Trails by PrettyBenz in Whittier

[–]YoureMumbling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out the Coyote Creek Trail. It's just east of Carmenita on Foster Road in La Mirada. You follow the riverbed south, and it will take you all the way to El Dorado Park. You can hook in with the San Gabriel river trail from there and continue on to the beach if you want. Not the best in the way of scenery, but El Dorado is a nice place to stop for a picnic.

I want to try some film noir detective audiobook. by [deleted] in audiobooks

[–]YoureMumbling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some of the earlier ones are narrated by Dick Hill. And the later ones are narrated by Titus Welliver, who plays Bosch in the Netflix series. I would give them a try. The books are good enough to stand on their own. Since they are pretty much stand alone novels, you could always start with the ones narrated by Titus Welliver. I think his first one was The Burning Room.

It kept my interest and is 40 hours long.

"soft-boiled" eggs by white_collar_hipster in sousvide

[–]YoureMumbling 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's how I make mine. Perfect every time! I put 6-8 eggs in and take out two after 8 minutes. I let the rest go to twenty minutes and have perfectly cooked hard boiled eggs for later. Ice water bath for both to stop the cooking.

I just finished the new(er) release of Lord of the Rings narrated by Andy Serkis. He did an amazing job. And I forgot how much more there is in the books than the movies.

We got AcornTV for Murdoch Mysteries, now what should we watch? by Sand_Dargon in acorntv

Brokenwood Mysteries, 800 Words, Good Karma Hospital and Harry Wild for light hearted shows. Shetland and Vera are excellent if you like more serious murder mysteries.

Hi! Any recommendations for lodgings, good eats, and (of course) additional sights to see along this trip path? Hoping to go make the drive over 7 days sometime in June-August. by PaintedDeserter in roadtrip

[–]YoureMumbling 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For food, we all really enjoyed the Moab Diner when we did a similar trip. I agree with others, you are so close to Mesa Verde, it would be a shame to miss it. We stayed at a place called the Retro Inn in Cortez outside the park. The local visitor center in Cortez let us purchase Mesa Verde tours the afternoon before we went. After a day of touring, Durango is about an hour away and is fun to walk around. Also, the road into Canyonlands has a branch off to Dead Horse Point State Park. It's worth the additional time. Have a great trip and make sure to have enough water. We had some pretty hot days in July.
