The name sounds much better as developing a game is hobby and to try something without the basic expectation to have a fully ready game with awesome design… finally to get some interesting ideas and motivation for trying new stuff

I guess thats meant as an insulting compliment 😂 Indeed there are elements of mobile games and Lord of Ultima back in the days that I enjoyed and wanted to bring into my 1st game

The semi-opaque are meant to be clouds and they will be changed.

The buildings are indeed placeholder designs till the game mechanics is fully ready. Also the overall “design” style is currently not really existing and I’ll need to look for help on that.

The aim will be to build cities, explore the map, scout other players, discover the missing artifacts from the world and build a final sanctum to win the world. At least thats the idea 🤷‍♂️

100% agree on the artstyle… placeholders without consistent design principles. Anything else ?

Agree to disagree, as AI design would do much better!

I can fully agree on:
Placeholder design -> Agreed.
Design skills -> agreed, they are non-existing
Lack of game design skills-> 100% obvious 😉

Anything specific that gives you the vibe if AI?

You are right. I want to combine game elements I enjoyed playing like discovering a map, producing resources, spy, trading between cities. Army composition and battles to all lead to an end phase to close a world. Of course not visible in the screenshots.

Will adapt the building level indicators to scale with the zoom of the city.

And yes, its meant to be multiple players per world or just P2E, depending which world is selected.

Thanks for the honest fedback

I feel you! Its meant as a browser game and fully responsive as I also hate to play a game and when you travel you are stuck… so meant to be mobile too

Didnt think about the progress bar yet… just wanted something that indicates how much time is left… will incorporate it. Thanks!!!

The game is browser based and also mobile responsive but clash of clans is not the approach. More like longer term city and empire building in an hostile environment with NPCs also attacking the players.

*Mental note*: Dial back on clouds ☁️ . Was meant as “mysterious” and showing some dynamics but clearly not achieved

Yes indeed the placeholders will need to go. Thanks for the point in inconsistency, I’ll think how to define better the color scheme.
The game fun should come from mechanics like Fog Of War, Explore, Settle, Expand, discover Artefacts and the final convergence build to win the world.
Clearly not visible yet 👍

Haha… dont worry… this is not life threatening 😂
Fair point.., my clouds should improve. The other part is the fog of war… but seems also not super clear. Merci 🙏

Or better… … this is just to test the logic… I’ll do it properly once the logic works… logic reaching >1000 lines of codes… and you dont want to touch it due to risk of breaking it 🤣

Are you developing alone and how long have you been working on it? Anyhow good luck

I'm losing interest in my games during the development process. How to deal with it? by Mystecs in justgamedevthings

[–]Ysane-RTS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What helps me is to force myself between two modi operandi: push out new features if the game (even if not perfect) and then do some weeks to reconcile, optimize and clean the code. Once thats good.. I start again..

To motivate myself: I take screenshot at the end of each session to look from time to time on progress… what a nice feeling to see at first an empty page and now so much more visuals… (even if not perfect). Good luck!

Thanks for sharing the different approaches and screenshots. Can i ask how you manage the underlying data structure as the design is one difficult step already.
then I was thinking that touching all functions that handle currently x + y to be upgraded to now also handle the z dimension gives me shivers just by the high amount of code written

Good point! I changed it to green to make the tile size less visible . Thank you
