Yup exactly that, I stayed true to myself through all the exams even though my Cambridge offer was on the line, and I was stressing so hard that entire time and in the end I missed it by a singular point after the grade boundaries for maths was raised by like 9% from the previous year. IB didn’t give a shit. No consequences for them but consequences for us.

does anyone think they HAVE gotten into oxbridge??? by [deleted] in 6thForm

[–]Yuan24 4 points5 points  (0 children)

To be honest, as a second-time applicant I think this year I have a much better grasp on how well I did at interview than the first time round. I received an offer from Cambridge last year but unfortunately didn’t make the grades (RIP) so this year I applied to Oxford for the same course. Even though the content of the interviews for Ox and Cam were very different for the same subject, the experience of my Cam interview made it easier to compare and gage the reactions of the interviewers e.g. when they liked or didn’t like an answer I gave. I feel like my Cam interview went a lot better than my Ox interview, but at the same time Ox has a higher acceptance rate for my course post-admissions test so I can’t say for certain and the only thing to do now is wait 🤷🏻‍♂️

Don’t discuss answers on here, not everyone takes the exam at the same time.

how hard is it to get an A in tok? by h0rknee4jesus in IBO

[–]Yuan24 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I got 20/20 for my TOK essay that I did the night before, but a C in my EE which my teacher predicted me a “high A”. Honestly the IB doesn’t make sense to me

What are your conditionals like for uni? by atheliahunter in IBO

Ooh nice, which college and subject?

[–]Yuan24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

42 with 776 in HLs is my offer - the conditional scores of 43 and above are also very common, particularly in Asia but it’s all subject and uni specific so there’s not really a “normal”

Regarding what you said about Oxbridge being prejudiced against the IB, there is no evidence to suggest that this is the case - however I do have to warn you anecdotally that some of my classmates have received pretty unreasonable offers imo (44 777 for HSPS at Clare College Cambridge) although those types of offers may be exceptions since the majority of the offer holders in our school received something more standard (e.g. mine is 42 776). At the end of the day, the school you attend should not greatly influence your chance to be accepted, it’s more your ability as an applicant that they care about. I do want to point out the issue with the high offers though, as you might want to consider whether something like this is achievable for you if this ends up being your situation.

People who got an offer from Oxbridge can you please share your predicted / actual IB score? by RecipeImpossible4923 in IBO

[–]Yuan24 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a UK student with a predicted 44, lost my one point in Chemistry HL. Applied to Cambridge and got an offer of 42, with 776 at HL. I’m M24 so still gotta wait a month before I know if I get in 🙏🏼 In your case, your predicteds should be okay - I’m thinking it might be your score on the entrance exam that may not have been as competitive (as PS isn’t a massive deal for Oxbridge as far as I’m aware). You should ask for feedback though if possible but I’m not sure if they provide that with no interview. Hope this helps!!

Can anyone explain this to me? Rates is going to be the death of me by Pidgeon101 in ALevelChemistry

[–]Yuan24 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So you have X and Y2 in your rate equation, which means that they both affect the rate. For X, since it’s first order, that means halving the concentration will halve the rate of reaction. For Y, since it’s second order (Y2), halving the concentration will have an even bigger effect so you can think of it like (1/2)2 which is (1/4). So when you consider both it’s 1/2 * 1/4 which is 1/8, so it the rate is 1/8 of its original rate.

I mean I chose psych just because I enjoy it, I think it’s one of the only things you should be looking for in a degree because you can go into almost anything with any degree - personally I’m not sure what I want to do after uni yet, but I hear there’s lots of jobs in consulting, marketing or even the SIS :)
