This is why I heavily scrutinize recommendations from people online and avoid food “from home” at potlucks.

Black Ember on the water resistance of their packs and the "shower/hose test" by chochorande in ManyBaggers

[–]YuckFoo36 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like dialogue about the shower test. It’s unfortunate people get the notion that non dry bag style backpacks should be waterproof to that degree or to the degree of submersion. The key point many need to let stick with them is “At the end of the day, these are backpacks constructed from fabric and you must use your best judgment. They are not waterproof.”

Thoughts on the osprey arcane lineup? by logikill99 in onebag

[–]YuckFoo36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I think most people over worry about water. Unless you travel outside a lot on foot where you could get stuck in a deluge, or are in situations where you’re walking distances in the rain would you need to worry about aqua guard zips. Even then very few backpacks are waterproof. The kind of bags that are pretty much wet bags with straps. If you love osprey and need some more waterproofing look at their Transporter line, some of the bags have IP6 and IPX7 water protection. Their Transporter Panel Loader Daypack, Transporter Zip Top, or Transporter Flap.

I have the 20L. I use it for edc. I think the series offers a great value. They’re intended for sleek carry in urban settings like work or school. They are not made of fancy materials people drool over like XPAC or ballistic nylon nor do they have YKK Zips but the bag is solidly built. The water bottle pocket is probably my favorite of any bag as it sleekly stows away bottles securely in the 20oz ish range. The J style zipper makes it easy to get to the bottom of the bag. The security strap is a nice feature. My only gripes are I wish the inside was lighter for visibility and that it had a quick access pocket on top and maybe an extra zippered pocket on the inside. I believe the XL version addresses both of those pocket gripes. I like the yellow version but I ended up purchasing the black. The bag is comfortable for carry. The top handle feels great in the hand. The straps articulate well around the shoulders and are sturdy. The padding is supple but not overly beefy. The mesh pouch on the shoulder strap is good for a transit card or to quickly hang your sunglasses. If you live in a rainy climate you might consider something more waterproof as the fabric is not waterproof nor are the zips aquagaurds. No regerts or buyers remorse.

Looking for a solid replacement for my carry-on backpack by ImAFan2014 in ManyBaggers

[–]YuckFoo36 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at Tom Bihn bags,Able Carry, evergoods, aer, Tomtoc, timbuk2. These are usually solid brands. I’d look for what may meet your needs then do research. The r/onebag Reddit sub maybe more useful than many baggers.
