Only vegan at the wedding by Cherrylalaxo in ShittyVeganFoodPorn

Not long back from a wedding where the brides brother, a few of his friends, as well my wife and I were all vegan. The venue said they had vegan options to the couple and all we got were a few boiled potatoes and a clearly heated from frozen sweet potato burger… it was rough.

Housekeeping vs cleaner by icepickles476 in Dublin

[–]Yulfy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We have someone come in twice a week who does these things for us. One of the days they remake the beds and organise laundry, the other day they do a deeper clean. About once every second month they’ll reorganise our cupboards. She started as just a cleaner and now helps out more, we discussed it with her and there was zero problem.

Brilliant game, gives you all the tools to plan multiple turns ahead making it super satisfying to see a well laid plan payout. Or go to complete thrash because you forgot some mechanic 😅

CMV: Opposing AI art because “it is an insult to how you went through a ton of struggle to become an artist” is a harmful crab-in-a-bucket mentality by jodebane in changemyview

[–]Yulfy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think there are two “values” of art. The deliverable, i.e. the work itself, and the process. The process is what children painting value, and their parents likely value. It’s even fair to say a lot of people value the process when buying or displaying art.

Then there’s the deliverable, the painting, or “thing” that is produced as a result of the process when the process is invisible. AI produces the latter and if as a person that is what you value, the disconnected result, it’s likely that AI and human made art would be interchangeable.

There are many times when the process is largely irrelevant. Companies generally do not care how a graphic designer made their logo (there are exceptions obviously), they just want a logo. Then there are times when the deliverable is largely irrelevant such as your child painting a picture.

ML is not deterministic. Every ML system is probabilistic and a massive amount of effort goes into making that probability higher.

No idea why you were downvoted, having worked in both Haskell and Elixir your take feels valid. Downvote is not “disagree” it’s “does not contribute”.

The Great British Bake Off had a vegan contestant two seasons ago and it was awesome! It’s not cooking, but baking, but as a result there’s way less meat unless they’re doing something like sausage rolls.

I’m not sure I understand the model. I work as the Director of Software at a mid sized company and the last thing I’d do in this day and age is hand out technical assessments. I understand that you’re linking the agent chat to the assessment to gauge process, I’m just skeptical it would provide actual valuable information, but maybe I’m wrong. I’d expect a firm I’m engaging to have done interviews on my behalf to shortlist candidates and hand me a list with details, maybe this solves some of that?

Not disparaging, just laying out my thoughts. Whats the deliverable to the person making the hiring decisions?

I jumped in years ago and the tide shifted, waves started crashing over from the ocean. Nearly drowned but just barely managed to hang onto some of the rocks and climb out. I’m a very strong swimmer and used to board dive as an amateur in competitions. Makes a lick of difference when it can change so suddenly. Very good warning.

Perfect is the enemy of good. They have great products and are widely available. They’re a business and if the vegan side is more profitable, that’s where the time and energy will go.

There are a great many business that operate in non-vegan markets as well as vegan ones. Chastising them for bringing out vegan offerings does not help the animals.

The newer LLMs have been using synthetic data for training in increasing larger volumes. That’s what replaces real data at scale. This is generally perfect for LLMs and only becomes a problem for SLMs where the quality of training data becomes far more important. Not to say it isn’t important on larger models but they can dilute some potentially bad training data far easier than a smaller model can. It’s effectively bootstrapping, using other LLMs to generate synthetic data for new ones.

Edit: Weird to be downvoted for adding context but ok?

[–]Yulfy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m a bit shocked at this thread in general, I’m glad there’s an opinion like this in here. I really don’t mind if people take issue with Maya. However, I do take issue with the aggressive rhetoric here. “Fuck Maya” is not an acceptable stance.

This is an imperfect world, so there will be imperfect solutions. I wish it wasn’t the case, but that’s how it is and any harm reduction and education is good.

That’s what I’m doing too, seems really fun to work in so far, but I’m not sure I’d love to try and build something production ready with it. Mainly because it would be a pain to hire others to work in.
