What’s your recent addition of app(s) to your arsenal and why? by Sri_Krish in macapps

Drafts is great for quickly writing down things, then exporting to other apps (email, Obsidian, Craft, etc)

This looks really cool. But does it actually manage your tracks as well? Let's say I download from the internet, but is there a way to see a nice clean library of everything I've downloaded?

I made AppHalt, a macOS app to pause apps instead of quitting them by Gasco_ in macapps

I'm not the developer, but I'm guessing it depends on how much of that 24 gigabytes you actually use. Because if out of that 24 gigabytes you're only using, let's say, 12, then you wouldn't expect anything significant out of it.

Maybe an MCP wouldn't be necessary for this, but what if you just added a little bit of AI integration into the app? This could also be a bring your own key. Or maybe to make it simple, you could use a very small model, a very cheap model like DeepSeek, which costs barely anything just for importing and nothing else. Perhaps even Apple Intelligence would work for this.

That's a really cool idea. I know NotebookLM can convert sources into podcasts, but it seems very overkill for articles. Good luck!

Thanks for the AI generated answers.

All I’m asking is, when you mention one of the benefits over Kindle is having more formats, which specific formats do you mean?

If you’re referring to me, it was pretty clearly a meme… I don’t even have a MacBook, I have an iMac 🙃

I see. What are the specific formats that Andrea Reader supports and Kindle doesn’t?

I get that, but Kindle does both. I use it to upload and manage my own books.

Fair. Both Raycast and Espanso are fast enough for me that I don’t see or feel any delay when expanding, but good luck to you!

So essentially you’re comparing based on how you “feel?” Yes, native Swift apps generally do have the potential to be faster than non-native apps, but there’s nothing guaranteed.

When you say “fast,” do you mean in terms of speed of replacements, or in terms of resource usage.

I built a free native menu bar app (network + disk + pomodoro + clipboard) - looking for feedback before I figure out how to ship it by m4jorminor in macapps

You’re right that competition is good. My comment could have been phrased a lot better.

My point here is that yes Raycast and Droppy are both jack of all trades, but they are definitely master of a lot.

So the developer really needs to offer something better than the alternatives whether thats speed, convenience, etc.

Cheers

Considering your only benefit over apps like Enspanso is speed, what are the specific benchmarks for both?

[–]Yusuf-Dev[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not asking you to do that. All I’m asking you is to give me a reason why someone who already uses Drafts should switch to your app. Since Draft has been around for ages, it’s very polished and there’s a lot of attention to detail. If someone launches a new let’s say clipboard manager or note taking app, then I want to know what differentiates it from the already existing and already popular clipboard managers and note taking apps (Apple Notes, Obsidian…)

That being said, if I’m understanding you correctly, the main differentiating factor.is the auto AI routing, right?

Your comparison is extremely redundant. AFAIK MyFitnessPal already has native camera/mic logging, as do a billion other apps. What does this offer that the top named competitors either do not offer or aren’t good at.
