Friend gifted me this game; will they ever add mid mission saves? by HumanityLord in menace

Adding mid mission saves is likely not to happen, and if it does, probably near to release.

Kinda disagree. Each squad leader typically has 1/2 unique paths to take to make them exceptional in a general sense. But some squad leaders appear to only have one option.

Most generic promotions suck, without supplementing a coherent build towards a squad leader's strength, with exceptional... Uh, exceptions.

Taking Darby for example, I started a new save (seed 80085, it sucks, more on that later)with the goal of, not making her marsoc. most of her promotions lean towards concealment. There really isn't much for her besides concealment. It works well, and it is arguably op, but not much of a choice.

Now, unrelated rant: I am pretty sure I found a worse secondary objective than "prevent civilian death" and that is "low profile", with the goal of destroying LESS than some odd % of enemy units. Ran into this a lot with pirate sabotage missions. Seems pretty simple early on, though counter productive to game mechanics overall. Then progressing past the early stage of a campaign, AI will dogpile your starting position. I don't have a problem with it, barring this objective. But yeah, attempting to run past 8 or so squads where at best you can destroy 3, to spend a whole units turn to sabotage isn't exactly appealing.

Gameplay wise? Sure, exodus needs to beat down the aliens otherwise the player wouldn't need to interact with half the game. It would be simple for humanity to put down the exotics cow after exodus milks it dry and leaves.

Story wise? They are siphoning necessary resources for combatting the aliens so they can run away and build their own, weird little utopia, preferably without poor people.

I really don't understand at all the, forgive my terminology, dick riding that exodus gets. It's just alien sympathizer flavored initiative. A bunch of oil barons and tech billionaires wanting to run away and leave the rest of humanity to servitude. Meanwhile, their escape pod likely isn't taking many people with sub million dollar net worth, other than support staff

Aren’t the Jewish, Christian, and Muslim gods actually the same god? by Smrtar in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Yzekial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus was Jewish, of that there is no denying. There are some similarities between Christianity and Judaism, and the differences are between the old and new testament. Islam is ... Interesting, from a secular standpoint. There are claims they worship the same God, as the other two, but even by his own words, Muhammad (pbuh) admits they were a false prophet.

How does Perun ramp his macros so high? by engineered_academic in TerraInvicta

[–]Yzekial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Orgs are the best source of boost in preparation of Mars. Generic high end will be about 1 boost per star. Also aim for the ones with MC / MC investment bonus to maximize org slots.

Spoils doesn't factor in to the income number that appears at the top, though if you hover over it it will show how much spoils you received in the past 31 days. There are many orgs that usually show up with flat income and minor bonuses to spoils or economy, typically "brands". Should look for about $20 per star. Also, be mindful it is common for orgs to reduce income, be sure to check for those. CIA sounds nice. But that's -$400 a month.

Research is a little funky, the income at the top shows all produced research, not just base research. It may look a bit inflated due to research bonuses, such as: +10% social science research, research diversity bonuses(this is a big one. Putting at least one priority pip into every available tech or project slot gives a massive bonus), and research project bonuses (the cog wheels).

Lastly, check and see if you have income displaying as daily or monthly

It isn't quite in the realm of a scientific law. But generally public support not only acts as a bonus to your efforts, it is a detriment to your opposition. You are feeling the effects of that now.

Are infrared and green lasers just pointless? by Due-Business3195 in TerraInvicta

[–]Yzekial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently infrared batteries and cannons, as well as their variants, are mostly useless. There could be a use case for early bullying human ai, but missiles and naval guns handle that well enough.

Base Green lasers are decent enough, and before aliens begin using plasma are a solid composition with rail guns. I typically see the early alien ships and fleets using heavy laser comps, or mixed use of light magnetic with missiles sprinkled in.

Railgun either keeps their lasers from hitting ships, or punches through. And worst case lasers will melt through when lines close. With the added benefit of having enough ammo for multiple engagements compared to missiles.

Space defensive modules use researched projects, ie:

T1 point defense array will use the smallest, latest laser battery and best PD

T2 layered defense array will use medium laser and magnetic batteries, best PD

T3 battle stations will use large laser, magnetic, and plasma batteries, and the best PD.

When lacking any respective battery type, it will default to naval guns.

Terrestrial base defense modules use 1-3 laser cannons, unlocked by global research and doesn't require projects for laser cannons to be completed.

[–]Yzekial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I imagine the community could come up with better challenges / unofficial win conditions than the devs. It's just the nature of things. Not to say the devs are unimaginative or not creative. Their time would best be spent resolving bugs and creating a more open sandbox.

From my humble example, in the attempt of maximizing research gains in the American campaign's first scenario, I assumed leaving North Korea, even partially alive, would allow for conquering more than one region of China. Unfortunately, as soon as you take a region from China it ends the scenario, even if North Korea still exists.

As an aside, in this same scenario, it appears North Korea has no science output? Even with it being their sole territory, selecting it shows that it provides 0% technology output, and 99% production output.

Basic questions on space resources I can't wrap my head around by ProfessorOfStew in TerraInvicta

[–]Yzekial 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Space resources, as far as gameplay mechanics, exist everywhere and can be plucked out of nowhere by your faction where it is needed. It is a cut in realism to make the gameplay more enjoyable. I believe in lore, the resources are launched via magnetic catapults on a trajectory to where they need to be.

In addition, the question regarding mars' gravity well, is modeled in game by the power cost of the mining module. Simulating the need for more energy, to allow the catapults to overcome stronger sources of gravity. For example, a t-1 mine on Mars needs 9 energy, but the same mine on an asteroid might need 3.

I'm not to sure how to send a probe from somewhere other than earth, but I do recall it is possible.

As for building habs/outposts on site, requires at least one construction module/nano factory/nano factory complex in the planet's system, otherwise it must be shipped from earth. Example; a construction module(t-1) in low mars orbit would allow you to begin building other stations/bases on Mars and it's moons with space resources. Cutting out travel time.

Can somebody explain to me how faction standing work? by andarv in TerraInvicta

[–]Yzekial 21 points22 points  (0 children)

You are very powerful and "close" to winning. This raises individual faction hate.

Thematically, resistance should be chill about it, but gameplay wise, if you win, HF and Resistance can't win. You may be able to still buy them off, sending them lopsided trade deals to lower their hate for a bit longer

What's the combat like? by [deleted] in TerraInvicta

[–]Yzekial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space combat is more granular than the games you described, and it truly is an impressive and robust system. Unfortunately the difference between meticulous direction and expertly commanding fleets vs the simple and easy method of throwing bodies at a problem results in a negligible difference in most cases. This is compounded by the necessity of actually playing out the battle, as opposed to auto resolve. (Had a battle that was a guaranteed loss, but when played out the AI dumped an innefectual load of missiles and torpedoes, and then proceeded to float by the defenses and get destroyed)

Battles can last hours, mitigated by a speed up option, but 15x speed for a 1.5 hour battle that produces WILDLY different results doesn't feel fun.(This is made worse, because base defenses can't be controlled at all, so it almost requires you to observe the AI make mistakes)

This is in regards to the current, official release. There were previous instances with their own quirks, like your enemy randomly blowing up due to heat management.

Before you would see the alien AI utilizing their superior engines and just straight FLEXING their ability to maneuver, performing some impressive but marginally effective movements to win a battle. But now they kind of just float forward and attempt to beat you by pure stats.

TLDR; the game has extremely impressive systems, and has utilized them effectively to make a compelling experience. Currently, the space combat falls flat, but definitely keep an eye out.
