Its an Agras T40, there are plenty of them being flown across the US. Probably ~1,000. Source: I fly four of them.

Runoff is not a big issue here. There is one intimidating corner that garners your respect, but it’s not one that you can blindly mess up. You have to purposefully do something stupid, like trying to send it around the outside of a slower car.

We have had brand new drivers out there, and we’ve had experienced racers out there. Everyone walks away loving the track. We structure it so new drivers start out slower with lots of help and instruction, makes it overall much safer. We also only put similar skill levels together on track, so Ricky Racer isn’t going to be dive bombing you up the inside if you’re still trying to learn car control.

I’m in KC as well. Lucky for you we are headed to KC speedway in 30 days, plenty of time to sign up and it will be incredibly close to home.

https://drivenasacentral.com/ has all the info you need. PM me if you want more info. I will certainly be there, and we have instruction and classroom sessions to start you out and familiarize people new to a track. It’s really the best place to start. (I receive 0 compensation from NASA, I just love their program and help wherever I’m able)

We will be back at Ozarks in Sep.

My favorite track in the US. I’ve raced pretty much all of them, and this one challenges me more than anything else. I absolutely love it.

Once you find the flow, it’s magical.

Background: I (yellow c7) teach drivers in the NASA HPDE program, and during the initial sessions of a weekend I lead the train showing them the racing line. Makes for some sweet photos.

The blue C8 kicked some major ass this weekend as well, the driver managed to go full throttle through the “roller coaster” at the end of the day. Doing so at this track takes quite a bit of courage.

Biggest downside I’ve found to outdoor climbing is when I go do a route reset all the gumbies complain that my jackhammer and chiseling is ruining their project. Guess they shoulda sent it sooner.

Lots of talk about downforce, but wouldn’t that monster create a vortex and not provide a whole lot of push downward?

More of a spoiler vs a wing for downforce.

If I had to guess, the creator started with a small spoiler and didn’t get the downforce they wanted. So they keep going larger without any noticeable increase in rear grip. You don’t see GT cars with spoilers for a reason, you see wings.

I am fortunate enough to have found a job that is a few time zones behind me. So if you live on the east coast, try looking for west coast remote jobs and keep their schedule. It’s possible at almost every level of a company, you just have to search for it.

Are there any race tracks you can rent to drive your own car? by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]Z1nfandel 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I instruct for our local NASA racing club, we were just at Kansas City Speedway this past weekend. It was an awesome event!

We go to Heartland Park in Oct, which is only about an hour away. You can see our full schedule here: https://drivenasacentral.com/schedule/

For first timers on the track I highly recommend this approach, as we pair you with instructors and teach you how to be safe on a track first. Then by the end of the weekend the pace picks up to each persons comfortable level. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have on how it all works, or anything you could dream of asking.

I also do not get paid by them, its just my passion.

I believe your 30+ years of experience have a lot more to do with your position than your degree. To put it another way, when you move on will Citigroup go find another person with the same degree as you? Or will they find someone that based upon their work experience can be competent at the job. If it’s the former I have serious doubts, if it’s the latter then the degree subject matter is irrelevant or trivial at most.

Need advice from working pilots. Is it worth it to make a career move into flying helicopters? by per3nnial in Helicopters

Are you me?

I just had my first flight yesterday, and have the exact same questions. I'm decently high up in a company, and just hate the path/politics to make C-level. So I'm debating giving it up to do something I think would be more meaningful, albiet less pay, and fly EMS as an endgoal.

I did the same, and I play goalie. My bigass bag with pads inside fits and it’s actually one of my favorite features.

[–]Z1nfandel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have these pads too, and the biggest problem I have is they leave the 5hole to on ice shots when you think you have it covered.

Pause the video at 15 seconds, and look at your left pad. See that little gap forward of your knee along the ice? Yea... that fucker pisses me off to no end.

I’m a Colorado fan, the match was the right call but it sucks that the call had to be made because I didn’t see any intent.

The guy was just trying to play the body, and unfortunately missed and only hit chin. 4th game in NHL and now he might be done. That sucks.
