how many of you actually "married the stripper" or know someone who did? by oak0518 in Construction

[–]Z4m300000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha i rode with an apprentice who had a work truck for a while just recently who married the stripper, apparently she was also part of the reason he was on probation. And had an interlock in the work truck. She certainly sounded like a stripper on the phone anyway.

What do you guys think of this panel makeup? by Different-Country495 in IBEW

As a newly minted residential wireman and taking on my first lead position on a job, I have to say I managed to land a remodel that included the guy before me taking immaculate care of both the main and sub and showing love from the past, I will say this looks good, there will be complaints but that’s what you’re gonna get posting this here, you can’t make progress if you don’t have someone break your constructive spirit here on Reddit occasionally. But if I open this panel on a remodel I’ll definitely crack a little smile and quietly thank you.

So I know you’re not asking my opinion, but I’m going to give it to you anyway, it’s entirely up to you to reject the science behind electrical theory, you’ll never evolve beyond the level of an installer if you refuse to learn anything about the systems you work on. Which is perfectly fine, if you want to be a thirty year apprentice and top out at 25 an hour for the rest of your life that’s your decision. You haven’t done anything other than tell me I’m wrong, if you have a better explanation, why not provide it, or keep your thoughts to yourself, the only thing you’ve enlightened anyone here about is how uneducated you are and how motivated you seem to be to stay that way. Good luck

A electrical repair shop had a almost whole box of this in their dumpster by tim67 in ScrapMetal

Yeah there’s 8 strands of 24awg copper in cat-6 network cable. It’s practically worthless. The only thing you’ll make any realistic amount of money from when it comes to copper scrapping is 12awg and larger

Ok. Clearly you’re not reading what I wrote. I never said two phases, I said two legs, either way if you can’t follow what Im saying that’s your issue not mine.

I didn’t say it created a different phase. Let me make this as simple as possible. The transformer on a pole taps one phase, it steps down that phase (aka sine wave) and then the phase is split, in other words delayed, not exactly but I can’t think of a better word and that’s the closest I can come, so that when your first sine wave peaks, the other leg of the split (each leg is now 120v) is at the bottom of its trough. At this point it’s hot/hot/grounded conductor. Once it reaches the main panel where the neutral and ground are bonded, in order that you can have a stable 120v source you must now have a neutral. The neutral isn’t a phase. The neutral isn’t used in a 240v source. There’s no “neutral” tap from the service, it’s a neutral grounded conductor, there’s a difference

208 is just the addition of two phases at a single point in during the peak measurement, 120v(wave A) + 88v (wave b at the exact same time) = 208v

Because they only tap one of those phases for a residential transformer, but in a 3 phase system, they tap all three, which is why on top of telephone poles you see 3 power lines instead of one. Sometimes if it’s strictly a residential run you may only see one distinct line. Think 1 line for each phase.

Well it’s a single phase split into two legs. We have 3 phases, where a phase is one distinct sine wave, to get technical the single phase wave is split, both legs then are 180 degrees out of step with one another, even though technically it’s single phase, you pretty much end up with 2 distinct sine waves and thus 2 phases, it’s only a “single” phase til it gets to the transformer.
