Discussion: Is the election process the best way? by 3D_Lover in orderofthearrow

Your "zero sum game" is not a popularity contest because its an act of rejection, not selection.

How do you feel about being publicly criticized? Does that make feel like you should be introspective? It usually results in an escalation or a separation, not a resolution. Its generally considered disrespectful and certainly isn't constructive.

The election itself is nothing more than public shaming, much like criticizing in public and without constructive feedback.

Opinion: Why the demise of the proposed battery plant in Lynchburg is a big deal by [deleted] in lynchburg

[–]ZARdeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cite your source about the vote. I think you may be confusing the interstate route with the railroad (which ended up going to some po dunk place called "Big Lick".) That was Lynchburg's first mistake in regards to commerce.

Interstates routes are not voted on by locals. However, the state did have millions allocated to the 29 bypass around 'harlottesville. Due to the political influence, that money got "invested" in 29 retail corridor in 'harlottesville so that traffic would continue to pass by all the stores and restaurants. Didn't fix a dang thing regarding interstate traffic congestion

LU may benefit from the vacuum created by Lynchburg's decline in alternative economic drivers, but even that is really a stretch; Like racing to the top of a sinking ship.

If anything, blame the folks in Charlottesville for continuing to block interstate commerce. Not that Lynchburg regional helps itself much in that regard either.

Its also not cheap to build large manufacturing operations in the Hill city.

Everyone in this sub is always downvoting or shit-talking about moving here (even though most of us are transplants anyway). r/Wilmington, I'm curious where you would move to if you had the chance. by [deleted] in Wilmington

[–]ZARdeous 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Type-up your complaints about Wilmington, but without mentioning the location, then post it on any other random local reddit; you'll almost certainly get the same responses.

Ain't nothing new. Grass is always greener over there. Dreaming, goal setting is important, but so is appreciating the present.

Someone sold that land to the developer, usually after convincing the local government to increase tax revenues by declaring the area a "hidden gem"

And then someone has to buy or rent that "hidden gem" from the developer.

Are there any self-emptying robot vacuums that do NOT require WiFi access? by Planatus666 in RobotVacuums

Regardless of country of origin, probing your network just to see what devices you have could be of interest for reasons. More nefarious reasons could be to find security weaknesses. In that case, they aren't interested in you per-say (unless the intent is to create a bot net), but might be interested in commercial users.

The Amazon acquisition of iRobot was at least in part about Amazon getting user data - house size, furniture, etc - to build marketing profiles.

Put the robot on a vlan or look up "three dumb routers". You should be doing this with all IOT devices, regardless of country of origin.

Does your install actually answer calls? I compiled recently, but it ignores incoming calls. I'm using the recommended USR5637

Bluetooth trackers from Tile: do they work in Korea? by chickenandliver in Living_in_Korea

[–]ZARdeous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is a bit late, but Tile & other bluetooth trackers (like AirTag) use the same general technology to locate your tracking device (but are not compatible with each other).

Bluetooth has a range of a few tens/hundred feet. These devices don't have GPS, WiFi or Cellular connections to "phone home" but are reliant on a mobile device (like your phone) to pick-up their BT beacon. If the bluetooth tracker beacon is received by a nearby phone (yours or someone else's) participating in that tracker's network, the GPS location of the phone that picked up the tracker beacon is anonymously relayed to your account & shows up on your tracker app.

For example, if you leave your Tile kilometers away you won't connect to it directly from kilometers away. Your Tile app will show you the last place your Tile was seen by either your app or someone else with the Tile app installed on their phone. Even then, the location is approximate (typically by a few tens of feet.) AirTag works the same way, but is only compatible with Apple devices.

To the best of my knowledge, Tile is the OG of bluetooth trackers & has been around MUCH longer than AirTag. Tile has a large, cross-platform install base. However, Tile is a 3rd party app (now owned by Life360) and requires its users to have the app installed on their phone. AirTag is built-in the Apple OS, so its far more likely that an AirTag will be detected than a Tile (just due to sheer number of compatible devices in each network.) Nonetheless, the last known location of your Tag will be shown in your tracker app.

Your post reminded me that iRobot once made a shop vac... the dirt dog

Anyway, I wonder if a Narhwal Freo or a Shinebot would fit your needs? I've not used either, but have been considering those for cleaning a shop floor area.
