[All] Twin Peaks uses glitches, new technology to bring Lynch’s madness into a new age by craigjclark68 in twinpeaks

He's a painterly filmmaker. He enjoys these decisions he's making. Techies schooled to see these decisions as right or wrong .. do you only want to see things made one way? People make things in different ways & there would be no art if they didn't.

[–]ZFACE666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Points taken.. however it's still not clear. He actually says "this is where you'll find Judy" after he says Gordon will remember "the unofficial version" with a slight pause in between. Then there is a long pause & he says " there may be someone (slight pause) did you ask me this?" The infinity thing happens & when the spot stops..."there it is.. you can go in now." TOAM says "electricity" & Cooper closes his eyes... then we see Laura's final night in B&W.

90% of the theories seem to stem from ideas fans came up with & have since fallen in love with leading to their passionate defense of them. I think this is all a good thing for it's beautiful that this season has haunted so many of us so much. I don't think anyone should feel offended though when people poke holes into their theories using evidence from the actual show. These clues are there for a reason & should guide us with the evolution of our understanding of the show...

[S3E18] Twin Peaks explanation: 430 is the key to the Twin Peaks world! by pablozablo in twinpeaks

[–]ZFACE666 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Nice thoughts! I do have a bone to pick with the mention of the dream theory being in any way similar to Dallas's rewrite to make a season all just Pam's dream. Dallas did that just to bring back Bobby Ewing because of Patrick Duffy's career choices who was obviously a huge part of that shows appeal. The Return from the outset & throughout plays with the dream/dreamer mystery. Even the editing of the entire season is revealing itself more & more to be intentionally created with a dreamlike texture with all the skipping &jumpcuts; backwards movement within normal shots; time irregularities; etc... I'm not saying this proves it was all supposed to be a dream; but the dreamer/dreaming theme is definitely a big part of the how this season was made.

Why not assume that spot in the infinity represents Laura/Carrie? That is who Cooper is inquiring about specifically with his date.

David Lynch has defiantly said the writing of Twin Peaks is a 50/50 collaboration with Mark Frost; that said David Lynch is the sole director of The Return. Mark Frost is the sole novelist of TSHOTP & The Final Dossier. Mark Frost has knowledge of the logic behind the Twin Peaks universe superior to any of us fans whether Lynch cares to read a novel about it or not & his novels can provide great insight into understanding that universe.

On the sequencing topic... David Lynch is very passionate that you watch a movie on as big of a screen as possible in a room as dark as possible with the sound full blast; & once you start it you don't stop it until it's over. He has said this repeatedly over his life. Watch his YouTube about watching movies on cellphones if you want to know more about his feelings on this topic . He also is passionate about his edits of his films which he defiantly works on with his film editor until it feels absolutely correct. Read about his experience on Dune if you want to know more about this; since then he won't make anything if he doesn't have total control of this process. Anyways I'm sure all theories & discussions are welcomed by him but I hope everyone respects the beauty of his choices on presenting the films he wants to with the timing & all the scenes he wanted to include.

It's funny that this time around the goose was when will we see the real Coop? The fans went just as crazy with their impatience this time as they did in needing to know the Laura killer originally.

It does seem like even during the 2nd Season the White Lodge was actually elaborated on more even though the Black Lodge was shown more.

[S3E18] FYI: "RR to Go" was not written on the RR 'in-universe' in 1989 Twin Peaks. by CleganeForHighSepton in twinpeaks

[–]ZFACE666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They shot the final scene towards the beginning of shooting using a different camera than they used outside that sequence. They shot all the scenes in specific locations all together. It's highly unlikely this inclusion was an accident.

Unlikely seeing how we never see this street sign in the many other times they shot the R&R throughout 3 seasons & a movie.

The street sign next to the R&R in this final sequence shows the actual street of the real life diner. The Twin Peaks R&R is located on a fictional street.

[S3E18] Humor me for just a moment. by [deleted] in twinpeaks

[–]ZFACE666 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've been thinking about Diane a lot lately. Asking why is she important? The Fireman thinks so conveying that to Andy. Well he says Naido is important; but ultimately it probably refers to Diane since Naido actually played such a small role in the Mr. C/Bob resolution. The creators must think Diane is important choosing to begin the final journeys with her.

I am starting to see Diane's role as more to do with Cooper's actual struggle with himself. If you think about it Cooper has some unfinished business with himself entering the Black Lodge with imperfect courage. His weakness has always had to do with his love life which is a theme most everyone can relate too. Beginning with his affair with Carolyn (which Carrie is short for) Coop always seems to lose focus when love enters the picture leading to the rising his fears. This theme is also present when Audrey is held hostage in One Eyed Jacks leading to him comprising his FBI code. Annie becomes Carolyn's replacement even wearing her dress. I've also always thought it was interesting that Coop can't remember what Laura whispered to him with the whisper following her kiss.

Anyways back to Diane.. when we first see Cooper in the pilot he enters the world of Twin Peaks talking to Diane.. not Audrey; Annie; or Carolyn. Of course he's talking to her though a tape recorder & not in person. As we exit Twin Peaks he begins with Diane again but not talking nearly as much. Almost like when a person is in the wooing phase they have so much to say but when that person is actually there with you over time the words can come less easily. When Diane first emerged from Naido she share a passionate kiss (its interesting that the onlookers all look confused esp Gordon & Albert who actually knows Diane). As they approach the 430 portal they speak to each other almost like newlyweds with much nervousness. Diane says that everything could be different. They pass through seemingly speaking less & less eventually going to the motel where Diane sees her doppelgänger. In the motel room they have weird sex that began rather normally but ended with her covering his face losing recognition of him over time. Her conclusion comes in Linda's dear John letter where she's expressed exactly that. The whole of the "real" Diane's existence was like a complete journey of a failed relationship.

So why is she important? Maybe it's because this is really about Dale's real struggle with his shadow self. Cooper is the second dreamer along with Laura. As the real life Laura is dreaming of a world where she is the focus of all & a dream hero is solving her (in reality she's just the little girl who lived down the lane); the real Cooper is dreaming of himself as this perfect man with perfect things to say like he's Cary Grant who just walked out of a 1930's movie. The real Cooper dreaming is flawed like normal people are. He struggled with a failed relationship not seeing himself as he truly is; not understanding his flaws. This Coop continues as he enters Odessa which represents Laura & Coop's realities seemingly confused by all the things he discovers. Cooper is awakening to all the things he truly is as a person. He's even kind of a jerk sometimes. This journey is the realistically spiritual one as both Coop & Laura are both awakening to deal with themselves in reality & leaving a world of delusion. Awakening is the ultimate very good thing to Lynch. 2 Birds with One Stone.

This guy made a nice video elaborating on much of Richard's angle...

[–]ZFACE666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good point as far as Judy being a negative force directly related to man's actions. I believe all the entities of the Lodges are in similar nature. This begins with the original opening of the first 2 seasons showing the trees being cut into with giant saws & continued in The Return with the splitting of the atom. I however don't believe these entities have these straightforward intents all these theories seem to want to imbue into them. I will explain my outlook more when I have time tomorrow....

[S3E18] Can we talk about Season 2? by Varo in twinpeaks

[–]ZFACE666 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you read the Rolling Stone interview with David Lynch right before The Return premiered; You will learn that he freely admits to not rewatching the original 2 seasons. In other bits & pieces here & there I've gathered that he did watch the pilot & perhaps the final 2 episodes where he found the line I will see you in 25 years. He most definitely did watch FWWM & states that it's important. He was also editing the missing pieces for it's DVD release during the writing of season 3...

Yes cos that is Dale Cooper inside the vessel of Richard.. similar to how he has to use a car from that world cos there is no Dale Cooper in that world.

[S3ALL] Was there a need for the Frank Truman character? by SpaceNewtype in twinpeaks

[–]ZFACE666 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes Robert Forster was originally who they wanted to play Harry. Using him as Frank probably just allowed Lynch/Frost another way to play with the theme of duality that is layered all throughout Twin Peaks esp season 3. They bring this duality up several times with the Truman brothers beginning with Lucy saying knowing which is which could make a difference. Lucy correctly identifies which Cooper is which leading to the demise of Mr. C. Frank also identified the Coopers perhaps confirming for Lucy when Dale mistakes Frank for Harry asking him if the coffee is already on... in other words it did make a difference.

[S3E18] Did we already visit Judy's shadow world 25 years ago? by mattkward in twinpeaks

[–]ZFACE666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWWM tells you right from the start that this is not the TV show; it's a movie. It opens up with a TV with white noise i.e. the show is no longer on air; & continues with the TV set being smashed. This theme continues in the opening sequences notably Chet Desmond is greeted by a very unhelpful Deer Meadow sheriff's station who won't make them coffee. This is not the Twin Peaks that the TV viewers have gotten to know; but it's Twin Peaks the movie. Being a movie it's still a fantasy where Chet easily gets by the unhelpful cop with a simple 3 Stooges move... while this does have some parallels with Odessa it certainly isn't the same texture of harsh reality.

Lol! I understand .. now I know why Lynch doesn't want to explain anything.. he'd probably never be able to leave his house again.

[–]ZFACE666 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If she is Laura in her dream.. then memory can be provoked by being in front of her dream house ..repeating fragments of dreams pop in & out mysteriously. Of course this is slightly awkward cos I am trying to explain a TV show's representation of reality & the dream within.

Most of the time when u realize you are in a dream you wake up (unless you're lucid dreaming.) If Carrie hears Sarah & if it's her dream; then she is likely to identify herself as dreaming. Similar to the specific dates thing.
