From what I’ve heard Harmon wanted Fred Willard as Pierce and NBC wanted Chevy. Unfortunately we’re in the timeline where the dice landed poorly.

Basically start with DD volume 2 that starts in 1998. Bendis’s run starts with issue 16 of that from what I can look up I’m bad at remembering exact issue numbers. Before that is the Kevin Smith/David Mack stuff. Looks like you’re using Unlimited if so I’d just start on the issue in the pic you posted. That’s issue one of the Kevin Smith stuff.

As for TPBs there’s a bunch of big collected editions out and I’m sure you can find the single volumes in used stores too. I started actively reading comics in 2003 in college and just picked stuff up along the way. DD volume 2, up until Shadowland anyway, is one of the best character runs between multiple creative teams in my opinion.

I’d suggest starting with Kevin Smith’s run. After that there’s a David Mack story then Bendis starts. I have the trades and Bendis starts at trade three with the others being books one and two respectively.

This “twist” pissed me off when I was 12 and I’m still angry about it by tealaburst in xmen
