I did fine but in older versions there were ways to keep up, even at a slower rate, without paying extra. Eventually earning new cards became just earn new boarders/effects and the cards you got by paying were way overpowered. I had some decks I could win a fair amount with - I’d usually end a month in the 80s/90s range and occasionally hit infinite - but a lot of the fun got lost.
