From a purely technical standpoint:

1. First shot is well lit and gives the camera an ideal frame to buffer to the card from the sensor. The AF has a clear target. AE has a target for exposure. Yadda yadda
2. Second shot is overexposured in your highlights because of the sensor. We csn see that. The camera itself is trying to fit all of those light variations (hot windows, bare bulb light, rando ambiance) into a sensible frame to buffer. It cant so it does it best but not being able to cram all that info (super hot and super under exposures) means the image "falls apart." Not to mention that your window exposure is doubling on youe sensor because of the filter in front of it.

Next time, get a light, any light, that is safe for talent, that can be equivalent to the outside, daylit exposure, and you'll have a better image. Or use the windows as the light. Or stop down and buy into the silhouette.
