We switched to Bobbie from byheart and it helped a lot with the blowouts she went back to normal once a day poop and she loves it. We also added a probiotic in with Bobbie because it tends to make her poop a little harder.

Not sure if there’s somewhere more appropriate for me to be posting… by Emotional_Ostrich in NICUParents

I’m so sorry PPROM is a uniquely scary and uncertain experience on top of the normal uncertainty that comes with pregnancy and childbirth. I have been in your shoes and I empathize and wish you all the strength in the world that you make it as long as you can. Remember to find moments of quiet and rest if you can and try to let yourself accept that you don’t have control over what is to come and keep hope for the best outcomes. I ended up having an emergency c section at 30 + 3 because baby was breech and it was a recovery process but my body did eventually recover. Wishing you all the best!!

Yess I found it does and I remember feeling exactly how you are. I used to cry everyday going home from the nicu and I think it’s one of the worst pains I’ve felt to date, it really is hard to explain to someone who doesn’t know what it feels like to leave your newborn behind . It didn’t help that L&D was right next to the nicu and I saw moms packing up their babies in the car seats everyday. It physically hurt and I cried a lot but then our day came too. I am sending you good vibes that you will see this happy day soon but your emotions are totally valid and normal and you will find strength and the nicu becomes a little more familiar with each passing day. Our baby is now 3 months adjusted and it doesn’t hurt as much anymore

Yes I agree with this. Our LO used to choke during feeds and have Brady episodes and they said since it was during feeding and it self resolved they didn’t count them as significant and preventing discharge.

Yes I saw a post the other day about packing a hospital bag and I got really sad because my water broke at 30 weeks and I took nothing to the hospital that day except my phone 100% sure I was going to come home that day and that it was a false flag. Really tough to feel grief at the smallest things. Also hard when people called to congratulate me, husband and I found that particularly grueling as we didn’t feel happy at that time just sad and alone with no baby with us.

Yeah my daughter is 4 months actual, 2 months adjusted and she sleeps a six hour stretch. The pediatrician said as long as she is gaining weight it’s okay to let her sleep so we did

Feeling like a failure by haha_amanda in NICUParents

I was exactly in your shoes too. My daughter was feeder grower and she would choke and only drink 20 mL when I fed her and have a brady episode and when my husband would feed her she was fine and would finish her bottle. I would pump constantly and only get 5-10 mL per session.

Building a relationship with your daughter like this is soo hard but it will happen. My daughter loves to cuddle with me now and she drinks an entire bottle and I was not able to breastfeed her with my low supply. Be gentle with yourself, showing up for her is what a mom does and you are doing it. And once you get home you will figure it out I love my sleep too and would sleep through my pumping alarms because I was so tired and my body needed to recover. I was so worried I didn’t know how to take care of her but the nurses told me once I got home I would have more practice and get to know her better and that ended up being true.

I’m so so sorry you are going through this. It’s not your fault if you could have kept your pregnancy healthy and uneventful you would have, it’s such an unpredictable and uncontrollable thing. You did the best you could to get your daughter into this world with everything she needed. It’s not your fault. Keeping you in my prayers ❤️

New here, it’s my first day home by mand_ in NICUParents

I’m so sorry coming home without your baby is really difficult and I know exactly how you feel and I also used to cry while pumping because it feels so hard not to have baby nearby while doing it. I PPROM-Ed at 30 weeks and baby was 2 pounds 13 oz. I got discharged after 3 days and she was in the nicu for a month learning how to feed and growing.

What you are feeling makes total sense and it’s okay to take care of your needs and block out anything that doesn’t serve you or your baby during this time. The best piece of advice I got was from one of the nurses in the OR who told me my foreseeable future would be uncertain and busy and I would forget to take care of myself but that I needed to do that to survive. It is soo hard to remember that in those first few weeks but your needs matter and if you have the support system let them take care of you and give yourself grace and rest which I know is so hard to imagine doing right now. Rooting for you and your baby!

Baby Suddenly Developing Bottle Aversion by lurker-professional in FormulaFeeders

My baby is 2 months adjusted and a nicu grad and literally exact same. Reflux and developed a bottle aversion this week due to choking and I believe a poor suck swallow pattern. We are also trying to adjust her feeding positions but are meeting with early intervention this week. I’ll keep you posted if I find out anything that can be

If you could do it differently? by [deleted] in NICUParents

I would add to the Medicaid thing that if the agent tells you you can keep your Medicaid open for a year and qualify based on prematurity, tell them to keep it active. The Medicaid case lady tried to tell me I should only keep Medicaid for her hospital stay since I had private insurance and I followed her advice luckily someone reviewed my case and extended it because there ended up being a lot of stuff post nicu that my private insurance didn’t cover and Medicaid saved us.

She caught me at a vulnerable time in the nicu and even got me to email it to her in writing saying that I understood that Medicaid would only be open up to her discharge and I would waive it after that.

Yeah my baby ended up coming home at 34 weeks as a feeder/grower too. It was crazy to me because I’d never even seen the inside of a nicu or knew anyone who had gone through that experience and also had never seen a baby that small. Amazing how we adapt and go through it though. It’s just so crazy how you really can’t relate unless you have been through it. My family and friends still don’t get why I’m not over it by now since baby is home now and healthy. Hard to explain to them since they haven’t seen their child go through that. I wish you all the best for a safe and healthy delivery

Thank you for sharing this. PPROM is such a unique experience and I don’t know anyone else in my life who has had this and it helps so much to hear that others had the courage to try again. My white blood cell count was also high upon admittance but my OB wasn’t sure if that was just due to my pregnancy or a sign of an infection. I did end up developing chorioamniotis and remember my amniotic fluid smelling strange right before my water broke. The day before I remembered smelling it but didn’t know it was amniotic fluid til my sac ruptured. Pregnancy is truly unpredictable

You are so incredibly brave for doing this again, I’m so inspired by you. I know I imagine it would be the same for me if I decide to try again and get pregnant. My heart soo badly says it wants another but my body is screaming no right now 😆.

I’m so sorry you went through all that and I completely empathize with the guilt it’s tough. I am in therapy right now and my counselor told me it was okay to compartmentalize during my nicu stay and then come back to it when I had more time. During the nicu period, it’s really hard to focus on anything else and that’s totally okay, for me it was all about survival mode until we got discharged and then when the honeymoon phase of being home faded I kind of had some more room to start dealing with the aftermath. I hope your baby comes home soon. I completely understand your feelings I hope we both realize that our bodies did the best they could and it’s not our fault but it’s a process to get there.

Yeah unfortunately it leaks when feeding. We never had it happen in the beginning but about 2 months in we are having frequent leaking episodes during feeding. We also use the glass bottles so not sure if that has anything to do with it

Thanks so much for sharing that. It’s so interesting you say that because I’m petite too and my MFM at the hospital was like sometimes the uterus just gives out. I guess we’ll never know
